Brook hit GGG hard and often
Amir Khan says a clash against long-time rival Kell Brook will only act as a "tune-up fight" for even bigger bouts in his future.
Khan (31-4 KO19) has not fought since suffering a devastating knockout defeat to WBO light-middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in May, but confirmed he is in talks to face Brook in a long-awaited all-British welterweight showdown in March.
Brook, the reigning IBF world welterweight champion (36-1 KO25), is back in the gym after failing in his quest to dethrone middleweight king Gennady Golovkin at The O2 in September and recently urged Khan to front up and finally sign a deal for them to meet in the ring in 2017.
"That fight between me and him can happen, I mean I do consider it," Khan told Badlefthook.com.
"I don't mind having that as a tune-up fight - the Kell Brook fight - before I go into big fights, so we in talks, I've left it to my team. I have a great team in the UK now."
And Khan says he is already eyeing up the winner of the unification bout between WBC champion Danny Garcia and WBA champion Keith Thurman, which is also scheduled to take place in March.
He added: "Well I think [Garcia-Thurman] is going to happen in March, I want to be back around March time myself, so maybe my March fight can be a tune-up and then go straight into a big fight towards the end of the year with one of the winners."
Brook sustained a fractured right eye socket in his bruising fifth-round stoppage loss to GGG, but emerged from the fight with his reputation enhanced.
Khan, however, has claimed the defeat to the Kazakh knockout specialist only proved that Brook did not belong on the big fight stage.
"I know why [Brook] took that fight, because I took the Canelo fight going up in weight. And still by losing to Canelo I got a lot of credit," said Khan, who underwent surgery on a broken right hand in the summer.
"But my fight was a little different to what Brook and Triple G had because Triple G was all over him from the first round.
"Triple G was winning every round. With me...I was winning the fight, I was up man, I was winning the fight. Obviously one punch can change a fight. But with [GGG-Brook] I think it was a mismatch.
"Kell Brook does not belong in big fights...I just think Kell Brook shouldn't be in the ring with someone like Golovkin, Golovkin was on a different level. And I just think that once Kell moves up to that next level he's always going to get beat."
Khan: Brook just a tune-up fight
Spence might not have had better opponents than Brook, but has Brook had better opponents than Khan?
Hearn does not want Brook to fight Spence..he is hoping for Khan at a catchweight.
As always whether I like the fighter(in the case of Spence I do) or if I think the fighter is overrated as most of the "feared" fighters are. I say, it is simply business. If Spence paid like the GGG fight paid Brook would jump at it. Fighters are not scared of getting beat. They're scared of getting beat and not getting properly rewarded for their efforts.
Amir Khan ’s wife has hit back at his family in a This Morning interview, explaining why her row with them has become so public.
Over the past few days, Faryal Makhdoom has accused the boxer’s family of bullying her and dictating what she wears.
She has claimed she’s been subjected to a tirade of abuse, and accused the Khans of trying to destroy her marriage.
Amir’s mum Falak, meanwhile, has claimed she’s lying , but Faryal protested on This Morning .
Explaining herself, she told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: “It’s not in my nature to ever go public about personal matters, but being so young and getting married so publicly and having to deal with so much abuse…
“Over the years, his brother went on Twitter rants, called me fake, called me Michael Jackson, it’s really not very nice.
“I used to take it in and be silent and thought they’d stop, but it’s just started to build up and up.
“When I did a catwalk recently, I was really proud and Amir was really proud of me, and then I saw his sister call it a 'dog walk', and that really hurt me because when I didn’t work I was called a gold digger.”
Faryal went on to confess she’d love for herself and Amir’s family to get on at some point, but she’s unsure of how likely it is to happen.
She said: “I went to Amir’s brother’s wedding, and I had fun and danced with his mum. I could see Amir’s face and he was smiling as we were getting on.
“It would be nice for them to eventually get on with us, but I don’t know how possible that is, especially having been in three years of marriage and not getting on.”
Amir Khan's wife hits back as she blames his family for row getting so bad on This Morning
International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Kell Brook believes that fellow countryman Amir Khan needs to leave the boxing world and vows to end the boxer's career if they clash in the ring.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed that both the sides are keen for a clash, with Old Trafford said to be a potential venue. In the past, both Brook and Khan have come out and expressed willingness to fight but nothing has come up on that front so far.
Brook who stepped up to the middleweight from the welterweight category in his most recent outing to fight IBF and WBC champion Gennady Golovkin struggled against his opponent, losing in the fifth round at the O2 Arena in London. Despite his loss, the Brit is confident of beating Khan and said he was ready to fight whenever he was ready.
"We need to get that drama queen signed up and get rid of him for good. I'm ready to sign. I'm ready to do the job, get in there and end his career. He needs to be gone from boxing to be honest and I'm the man to do it", said Brook to Talksport.
Khan too is coming off a loss in his most recent fight, where he was dominated by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez who knocked him out in the sixth round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 7 May. The 30-year-old who jumped two weight divisions to fight at a catch weight of 155lbs has been out of action since the fight and is currently recovering from a hand surgery.
"He has got nowhere else to go. It is the biggest fight money-wise at this level. They are all going to be hard fights so why not take a dangerous fight for the most amount of money. He has obviously been in some big fights and he needs this kind of fight to get him up in the morning. It's the same for me. I am ready to go anywhere."
