To answer Batman's question yes mail does get stolen here if it's in a mailbox out by the street but if you have a mailbox which is normally in this part of the United States attached to the wall of your house right next to your front door most people will not venture to walk 20 or 30 ft into someone's yard and open the box.
Yes Spicoli also has a point I do remember being in the backseat of a car in about 1983 after we came back from a bar at about 2 a.m. and two of my friends were leaning out the window with baseball bats really smashing those mailboxes as we drove by 25 or 30 miles an hour
I actually found a headless body once. I was lost in the hills behind Montana Tech, which was pretty embarrassing in and of itself, when I climbed a hill to look around. On the way down I found a headless yearling moose. Coming out i found a really nice shooting spot that i subsequently used for nearly two years.
