Canelo Reacts After GGG Rematch Cancellation
Canelo Alvarez has hit out at the media for tainting his name following the cancellation of his title rematch with Gennady Golovkin.
Golovkin was set to defend his*World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) middleweight titles against the Mexican on May 5 after their first encounter ended in a split-decision draw.
However, trace levels of clenbuterol, a banned substance, was*found in two of Canelo's drug tests last month with the 27-year-old's camp citing the source as contaminated meat from Mexico.
Despite contaminated meat*being a common occurrence for failed drug tests in the past, Canelo was temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) before a formal complaint was filed against him.
Likely to be suspended from six months to a year for being a first-time offender, Canelo withdrew from the highly-anticipated rematch as Golovkin will now have to find a new opponent.
Canelo Alvarez still insists he is a clean fighter following the cancellation of his rematch with Gennady Golovkin. "I am truly shocked by what has happened and I am lament this has caused people to have doubts about my integrity. I have always been a clean fighter," Alvarez said in a statement, as per MMAMania.
The former two-weight champion also expressed his displeasure at how certain*media labeled him as a cheat given the recent developments.
"It hurts that for mismanagement of information of sensationalist news my name is being tainted when I’ve always been a clean fighter that respects what he does, being disciplined and dedicated one hundred percent to his sport, it hurts me a lot," Canelo added in a press conference.
"But like I said before, I’m calm because I know who I am. I have nothing left to say beside that during this time, I’ll take more precautions, obviously after this passes, I will take more precautions to avoid this ever happening to me again," he said.
As for Golovkin, he still insists on fighting on May 5*and recently announced that news on an opponent will be revealed soon as he looks to tie Bernard Hopkins'*record for most middleweight title defenses with 20.
Meanwhile, World Boxing Organisation (WBO) middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders is ready to fight "GGG" but only in September.
The Briton's upcoming title defense against Martin Murray was postponed to June due to a hand injury but Saunders is open to a title unification fight for all the belts in the fall.
“I’d happily fight Golovkin for a sensible day for both of us. He says he wants to unify,”*Saunders told BehindTheGloves, as per BoxingNews24. "The Canelo fight's not happening. I’m now ready. I’m standing here in front of him."
"If I get in the ring with him, I want to make sure I take his belts, and I want to make sure I’m 100 percent for that. I’m willing to do it. Let’s be fair. Let’s play on a fair playing field. I’m willing to fight Golovkin. I’m willing to take Canelo’s place. Let’s book it for September. Let’s fight. September, if he wants to put pen to paper. One hundred percent in September, let’s get it on," he said.

How shit...
Time now for BJS to put on a dancing and moving masterclass and win a wide UD ;D
It is astonishing that Oscar is not only claiming that Cownelo is 'The model for what we want in our Sport' but also that Alvaroid himself actually had the audacity to claim that GGG was using it as an excuse to not fight him, because Golovkin is scared :-\ It sounds like they have both ingested more of a mix of crack cocaine and Ketamin than Clenbuterol

BJS is the biggest threat for GGG and he knows it..Jacobs will not get his rematch.
It'll be fucking massive. He's only ever made three or so million purses before his last fight. He made more in his last fight than he did during his entire career previous to the Alvarez fight and he would have made another tidy eight figure sum from the rematch. Now he's 36 and looking at having to fight guys like Charlo for two or three million. The person most upset by this cancellation is Golovkin, no doubt about it. Put yourself in his shoes. You've just lost a twenty million dollar payday and you now have a bunch of dangerous/tricky options for about ten percent of what you would have made for the rematch. Fancy having ten fights against Charlo/Saunders/Jacobs level people when you could have made the same money from the rematch?
Golovkin will be desperate for the rematch to happen and Alvarez really needs it now too. He's going to get at least a six month ban so Golovkin has to keep busy till next Cinco which is the most likely date for it to happen.
Guys should have to 100 percent reset off of a suspension. Lose ranking and any 'postponement' opportunity. Make the spoiled twat get back in line. Blaming the media for his own stupidity, that's rich.
Thing about a cheater is.... you always end up wondering how far back it goes. Someone who blatantly cheats to get an unfair advantage in boxing didn't just wake up one day and decide to cheat all of a sudden. How far back does this go? Clenbelo has historically used the weight game to end up noticeably bigger than his opponent on fight night. So a logical question is, when did this cheating start? Damn right he should get suspended, lose his ranking, and a huge ass fine to go with it.
I turned the page on the jacked up big red baby when they pulled that last minute 'amendment' for CW contract with Angulo because he wanted another advantage. The irony of a guy who pussyfooted his way to legit middleweight always using slight of hand to stack a deck. Or in hindsight just flat out cheated.
I think this is spot on, and in Alvarez’ case especially. There perhaps hasn’t been anyone who blows up more between a weigh in and a fight in recent years. One of his biggest weaknesses is that he can’t fight 3 minutes a round. I’m no biochemist, but it seems to me this makes the drug a pretty good fit for him. If you were to take a Mexican fighter who always had great stamina(as so many do), or seemed to walk around near their fighting weight and never looked to different the day after, say didn’t have the money and camp behind them to be wary of the risk or have access to the best legal supplements, you might think the meat angle had some legs. Here it just stinks. Just wiki the drug and see the kind of bans thatve been handed out to athletes in non contact sports with no reason to cut excessive amounts of weight. Of course; because it’s boxing, he’ll probably get a slap on the wrist.
I am actually bummed out this fight fell apart for any reason. I was gonna take the night off and make a big deal of it, probably would have gotten pissed like last year anyway (in the us pissed means mad)
