Murata can thank his lucky stars the "Vegas fight" came out the way it did. It was the ONLY way he was going to get to fight a top-notch middleweight willing to travel to Japan.

And the very fact they plan to hold it the Tokyo Dome says it all. Canelo is the only other middleweight who can pack a 60,000 stadium.
Curious, who downgrades Murata because he’s Japanese?

If he were a fellow from Kenya, I’d think much more highly of him.

He's done well with some U.S exposure and Top Rank tv dates for a few fights now. Vegas has the 'pop' flare wise but truth be told the Brant defense will hold just a fraction of what they can pull in over in Japan. They don't play ;D. The belt and Gold medal help. Have to hand it to Golovkin or any elite who just packs a suitcase and travels too. Much better than some who tuck into their comfort zone and have challengers bused in.

In regards to that last part about fighter travelling, it can go both ways. If a guy like Inoue (he has already fought outside Japan) decided to stay at home but have top quality opponent shipped in, it would be understandable. The guy is a superstar over there. If they offered him more money to travel, he would (this is just an example).

Very true. Thats why his one and done trip over here for Superfly left new found fans wanting more when hbo couldn't pony up. But played smart and more fan base with follow up defenses back home. Bit like Wangek recently too. Guess I was directing more to guys stateside who won't leave for what is a much more Global sport than it was. If you can pull them in and dictate most terms then by all means, but opponent always matters. There's just a level of respect for someone leaving their comfort zone once in awhile.
Seems like more guys are doing it regionally now. Crawford and those Nebraska turn outs are deep!

Stop making sense you two, it doesn’t provide enough material. The only good fighters are from wherever!

The average western boxing media/fan.
Murata's last fight got 17 million TV viewers in Japan, it wasn't even shown in America or the UK. Most people on this forum who consider themselves "hardcore" probably think "who the funk is Murata?" when reading this thread title, his fights don't even get a mention (barring the odd few of us).
And to answer the post you deleted...
Murata's two wins over N'Dam is better form at 160 than anything Charlo, Andrade and Derevyanchenko have done. He has a WBA title and is a former Olympic Gold Medalist. He has credentials.

So much for the Tokyo Dome ;D
Never count your chickens.
Ron will be happy... for once.
Re: Gennady Golovkin’s next fight: Ryota Murata named as frontrunner for Japan bout
GGG is probably upset at this one. Could have gone to Japan and gotten an easy win and a big payday. He probably doesn’t fight Brant

That post didn’t stand up for long
Re: Gennady Golovkin’s next fight: Ryota Murata named as frontrunner for Japan bout
Charlo still is available, just saying
