2. Lewis fought rematches against McCall and Rahman. But on considering McCall and Rahman in comparison with Lewis we see that McCall and Rahman were no where in the same league as Lewis, and Lewis should have beaten them promptly in the initial fight. But since he lost his first matches against them due to neglegience on his part, he willingly fought rematches, knowing that he would have beaten them if he took these rematches a little more serious.
But here is where the trouble comes in.
The only rematch that Lewis knew that he could possibly loose was against Vitaly.
The only heavyweight rematch that Lewis knew that the public demanded was a fight against Vitaly.
What did Lewis do with all these weighty factors.
1. A huge demand.
2. an unsatisfying outcome of the first fight.
Lewis knowing the above factors willingly retired.
I don't know how you guys want to spin it, but it was a total act of cowardice.
Now comparing that to Tyson and Holyfield. I have yet to see Tyson and Holyfield willingly retire instead of pariticipating in a fight that the public was demanding.
i agree with you that lewis retired cuz he was afraid of vitali
Re: Tyson is better than Lewis in at least one aspect?
The only thing Tyson was better at was intimidating, and excitement. Lewis was better in every other category.
Lewis beat Vitali, and beat him at Lewis' worst, and Vitali's best. Vitali didn't deserve a rematch. Lewis would have destroyed him even worse.

Lennox Lewis was World Champion from March 28 1998 until April 22 2001 and from November 17 2001 to February 4 2004*
Mike Tyson was World Champion from June 27 1988 to February 11 1990.
*Lewis retired undefeated, and as there has been no World Champion since, if he were to comeback with the status quo in place, he would have his reign backdated, and would still be considered World Champion, using the precedent set with Muhammad Ali's 1980 comeback.

get rid of all the belts I say
Re: Tyson is better than Lewis in at least one aspect?
I think Lewis was aaaaight but showed he had a glass jaw. It took one single punch from Oliver McCall to kiss the canvas and when he was being cocky with Raham got a good one to the jaw and down he goes. Lewis was beating during his prime while Tyson was the opposite.
Tyson dominated the heavyweight division in his prime. When Lewis was champion it looked like anybody could snatch the belts from each other like playing hot potato.

yeah, Lewis would give you some scary fights. Every fight he was in, you know there was the potential for him losing, and this kept you at the edge of your seat and in suspense. I watched his fight against Briggs the other day, that was a mini thriller, until Lewis started to jab and unload on him.
