But apart from that, yes Lyle you are spot on, they are very similar ;)

Lewis never refused to fight anyone other than Ruiz and I think that was out of contempt. No one wanted to fight him. Guys gave up titles rather than face him. Tyson didn't want him, a prime bowe didn't want him. He wasn't American, sometimes he was cautious against a puncher, he didn't have Ray Mercer's chin so not everyone loved him, but he pursued big fights and beat everyone he faced while behaving in a way that didn't discredit the sport. He deserves some respect at the very least.

Klit fans should celebrate the good performance and be happy. If he holds his title for 5 years and cleans out the division the comparisons can start for real.

Wlad is a two time WORLD CHAMP...WBO and now the IBF and IBO titles.

Lewis was the beneficiary of the old Heavyweight tournament which kept the titles in one fighter's hands and Lewis let them go one by one as his career slowed. Can't blame Wlad for not unifying...he's going to try I am sure.

what do you mean...Tyson didn't want anything to do with him in 1996 and vacated the WBC belt paying Lewis off instead of fighting him.

I have already said Wlad is the #1 contender for the Heavyweight Championship of the World. I would like to see him fight either Rahman or Lyakhovich, so the winner can claim the vacant Heavyweight Championship of the World.

Sure Vitali was winning on points but it was Lennox that cut him up with a punch, lets Say Byrd had built a lead up(by 2 rounds) to the 10th round an Wlad had won the previous 2 rounds and was starting to take control and Byrd's eye was cut very bad and the ref and doctor decided to stop it. Now, the Klit fans would be on here saying "Wlad was gonna win, he was just starting to come on." ;)

Exactly Starr; a victory on a cut caused by a punch always has been a TKO. Hell before 1988 a victory on a cut by any means, fair or foul went down as a TKO win, and everyone just accepted it.

Imagine Minter/Hagler went down as a technical draw three? The dominant Middleweight of the 80s, possibly would have retired, never being a World Champ....

well byrds cut came from klitschko DOMINATING and scoring 2 knockdowns, and vitali was winning on ALL 3 SCORECARDS!!!

maybee if the fight was in nevada lennox would have a chance at being ahead on cards, but vitali was still going strong WITH that cut, he was not begining to wane and if he had not been cut he would have been even less likley to perform poorly as the fight went on

1: Vitali choose to quit against Byrd

2: A cut caused by a fist, that leads to fight being stopped is a TKO win. The argument that Vitali was giving Lewis a hard fight and would of won, but for the cut, is the equivalent of saying Holmes was giving Tyson all he could handle, and if it was them three knockdowns he would of beaten Iron Mike; or if Spinks was not caught by them big punches he would of beaten Tyson; or Grant was doing great against Lewis, if you take out the knockdowns; or Frazier was planning to get knockdown half a dozen times by Foreman, so he could lead him into a false sense of security or Duran was on the verge of beating Hearns but for.... ;)

vitali was WINNING, reguardless, and he didnt quit with a cut that would have made many give the ref the "i quit but im too scared to say it so wave it off" look

there is a big difference between not being able to move your arm w/o causing permanent damage and a cut

i dont say vitali won, just that he would have, and that he ws willing to lose his sight to beat lennox, and that he would CRUSH him in a rematch

Ive never been a fan of Lewis We use to train with them at the Henry Cooper gym couple of my boys use to spar with him and they didnt come second.But Lewis evolved into a very good fighter.Just look at his resume you cannot be anything but impressed.It compares with anyones. But Ill tell you this his first trainer when he turned Pro, doesnt get the credit he disserves,John Davenport

so what if vitali was up on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage???? it doesnt mean a thing. bernard hopkins is usually down on the cards going into the second half of the fight. it doesnt mean that the fighter is on the automatic path to defeat. lewis was definately getting stronger as realised he was going to trade with vitali. lewis was behind but catching up on the scorecards....

regardless a fight stopped on cuts is a victory nonetheless and thats the way its pretty much always gone....lewis won fair and square...

i really dont think a focussed lewis would be "crushed" by vitali....thats going a bit far methinks! ;D
