Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
Ruiz or Valuev if he loses to one of the bums he keeps fighting. However I do think he will eventually come into his own and kick somebodies arse whose arse deserves to be kicked!

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
I figure someone will eventually fight Ruiz or Valuev and just beat the absolute shit out of them. And when it happens I will be VERY happy, Don King and his fighters DESERVE THE WORST!

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
Lyle Louis stopped him in 7

He's a strange one, because his reign and his capitulation in his first defence were awful, but his performance in winning the title was certainly not one of the worst, infact was one of the best imo.

A few to make you all laugh....

http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=001139
I know there are quite a few more than this....
I look through records all the time, so I look at some of these and wonder,,, HOW??? WHY???
But over all....The one person that sticks out to me, who had one of the worst records a champion could ever have....
http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=12072
Alot of people dont realize just how bad it got for Braddock before his comeback...
Trust me, the movie does no justice in explaining the whole story of this mans pivotal career...
When he ended up losing to Joe Louis, he was an old guy....But he was what he was and thats, a Boxer!!
Good luck and enjoy,
Coach

You know your right on ! , I thought Lewis was boring to watch . He had that play it safe type of style, and rarely took chances., kind of a do enough to win and that’s it kind of mentality, makes for a horrible watch from a fan prospective. He did have his moments but they were few and far between. I think Lewis could have been more exciting as a Champion. part of it is That Manny Steward - Punch and Grab technique. Grabbing as part of a boxing strategy is an illegal tactic. Just like a low blow, The Referees need to take note and start penalizing fighters for excessive holding, its really the main problems in the heavyweight division, A fighter starts getting points taken a way all that holding B.S. would stop .

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
There was a man who was a paper champion during Ali's reign, Ernie Terrell and Yes John Ruiz.
Micheal Dokes and Mike I was so lucky that a worse Heavyweight John Tate was put in front of me Weaver. John Tate lost in the last seconds of the fifteenth round and never recovered again. Good old Ali sparring partner and blown up middleweight Jimmy Ellis. We forgot an old timer Jess I was so lucky the authorities scared the ****out of Jack Johnson for me Willard. Tommy Morrison coould have gone a long way but he had the attention span of a flea after the third round. There were a few more but they tried harder than these guys.

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
John Ruiz lives in this category.

Interesting if that is the case would you say Tyson was at his best? or just overlooked a fighter considered a bum?...If it was a great performance by Douglas then Tyson must have been considered at or least close to his best and if this is the case then Tyson's rep was overblown...If Tyson just overlooked a slob and got taken out, then Douglas must be considered right at the top of the list for "worst champ"....Considering Buster's greatest win to that point was a decision win over Oliver McCall...

Lewis shouldn't be in this category IMO...he was not that exciting but was a great boxer and champion, i don't need to list the opponents that he has beaten to make a point.....

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
Why does everyone say Primo Canera was the worst?

What's bad about him is that he is only slightly better than John Ruiz.
-
Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
He probably wasn't as bad as history reports, I know he was dropped 11 times by Baer, but he was fouled so many times, he sprained his ankle in the first round (when Baer fell on him) and still carried on until round 11. One of the judges had him ahead at the time of the stoppage and he did outbox Baer for large parts of the fight.
Its funny how is still percieved as a giant coz he was only 6' 5 and 250 lbs

From the films I have seen of him he was very slow and lumbering. He was clumsy, and his punches lacked snap, although with 250lbs behind them, I am sure they were effective to a point.
On the plus side he was strong and brave with a fair chin.
The big black mark against Carnera of course is his alleged connections with the mob, it makes it very hard to judge which of his fights were legit, and which ones were not.
Thus the boxing community seems to be further down on him, when assessing his place in boxing history.

Re: Worst Heavyweight Champion of all time
Primo Carnerra was 6'5" 1/2 and only had 3 fights weighing under 260...his normal fighting weight was about 265...And from I've been told while "only" 6' 5" 1/2 his was massive ala Sam Peter big, only in shape...
