Prolly the first time i have ever dissagreed with a apost you made.
I may sound biasd with what im about to say, but ill try back it up with as much reasons as poss...
I don't think calzaghe would 'punish' taylor the way he did to lacy, but i think he would beat him just as easy. IMO taylor has alot of talent, is a very well schoold boxer, however.. i see him for one to be very lazy in the ring. He let winky for a vast part of their fight, call the shots an d fight the fight he wanted. He does that to calzaghe he will get his ass handed to him.
Winky didn't have the power to hurt taylor, hopkins didn't have the hunger to beat taylor the way calzaghe could and i wud bet will...
Calzaghe has a superb jab, and a fight with taylor will show that, he will pick him off, and his hand speed, his non stop work rate will see taylor get pulled out fo there. I like taylor alot and i think he would do everything he can to go 12 rounds with joe, it will either be a knock out, the ref or his corner that will stop that fight.
Im sorry, but i think taylor is to lazy, he will be out jabbed, out worked - and i know this may sound a little rash, but if calzaghe trained and focused for the fight the way he did agasint lacy, i honestly can't see taylor picking up a round. Taylor seems to like to go a few rounds to work out his aponent before he really goes at it, and he stands off joe for so much as two rounds, he will not get into that fight at all.
The only hope taylor will have is joes hands going out on him, other than that i give him very little chance of winning a round, let alone the fight.
Taylor fans,f eel free to sad lcik me all you want (wacko behave!) but adleast give us a reason why u did so, not just for the fact i ruled your boy out:P

No offense...but you need your head checked.
You either don't follow 168 or you just haven't seen many of Calzaghe's fights.
Statements like this just blow my mind.
To be remembered for a great fighter you have to fight high caliber opponents (which he has) & you have to dominate your division & win convincingly (which he has).
Calzaghe has done the very thing that he intended to do...win & make a name for himself.
He's defeated plenty of game fighters & champions, all the while pretty much humiliating them in the process.

i like the way calzaghe fights and i think he will beat taylor and winky calzaghes combos are super fast and hes got super workrate to keep it going for 12 rounds i think hes top 10 supermiddleweight and to be honest i dont see anyone beating him at the moment.

Consider yourself cc'd mate, I couldn't agree more. Granted unless he wins all three of his last fights, and they are all pretty big names, then it is going to be quite difficult to judge him on a historical scale simply because we are in an era, when although not as bad as in the heavyweight division, the smw division is not rife with top notch fighters who are having series of fights between them because they are so competitive.
If he beats three big names, he will cement his legacy. If he does not, if his hands give out, or he fights a few contenders or couldvebeens, then his legacy will always be open to debate as to how good he really was.
I truly believe he is good enough to beat any of the names that have been mooted in this thread, and if he does, as I hope he has the courage to do, he will get his all-time great status, which he so thoroughly deserves.
And yes, I am a fan and a Welshman, so my judgement is coloured, but as always, passion is often the first to jump forward as logic takes a holiday.

No, No and No.
Calzaghe whips all of em
plz explain how Joe beats Hopkins? & how he beats Taylor or Winky?

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
If he wants to go out in a blaze of glry he should start with either Wright or Taylor at least he'd have a chance against Taylor, Wright would school him & if he fought Hopkins the same would happen

I'm most worried that Calzaghe will have a come back fight to tune up for missed ring time and reinjure his hands and retire :'(

You know Calzaghe's got no chance against Hopkins (even this old Hopkins), Taylor is even a tough task for Joe, & Wright would make him look like an amatuer

I'm a Winky fan but I have to agree, Calzaghe is fast doesnt wouldn't mind hitting the gloves because he will just keep moving and punching till he finds some real surface to hit. It would be a good fight but Winky's defence wouldn't be as effective against Calzaghe as it has been against most of his other opponents.

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Joe has the best chance at Taylor, but Winky may school him all night & Hopkins would make him look as bad as he made Tarver look!

Actually I don't :). It's doubtful that Nard would knockout Calzaghe, and he can't keep up with the pace at his current age. In my opinion it would end with a UD for Joe :thumb:

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Calzaghe has nochance against Hopkins, I agree that Taylor is his best chance to win a big fight. If he fought Kessler I'd be happy. But he should stay away from the others. (Wright, Hopkins) until Hopkins is at least 50, & Wright becomes an offensive fighter

Spoken like someone who hasn't taken the chance to observe the career of Calzaghe....Why does Calzaghe have no chance against a Hopkins who is indeed (despite a good final performance) beyond his best now?
A ludicrous statement to make. Calzaghe has no chance??? ::**

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Bro
What has Calzaghe done? Should have fought Ottke, should fight Kessler, keeps saying his fighting this guy or that guy then fights a nobody. Beat a green Lacy to become champ. I've seen Calzaghe fight and he's got good skills, but he ain't that good... & yes I repeat... no chance against Hopkins. I think he'd even struggle with Kessler.

Calzaghe also told the Western Mail his hand is getting better, but he is thinking of retirement. "The hand's getting better,

I think Kessler would be a good fight, but Calzaghe beats him handily IMO. But really why does Calzaghe have no chance against Hopkins? Im a huge fan of both fighters, but I really do think at this in the game Calzaghe is able to outwork Hopkins for a close fought decision....Its a fight I dont want to see though, for I would like to see Hopkins stick with his retirement promises...

Joe and alot of people sought out a fight with Sven Ottke and they were all refused. As a matter of fact I've heard JC calling out Bernard and Roy Jones for the last 4-5 years. In your opinion though, why would Hopkins beat Joe?

cool down mate, i was only teasin ya. Sadly we don't really have trailers in Britain, though perhaps you could replace that with council house to make it a good attack from a British point of view.
Calzaghe's appearance got the biggest cheer down at the stadium last night, but typical of itv, they wouldn't give us any sound when they were talking with him. Let's make it 3 good fights and out Joe, and cement that legacy. As for who he should have fought, whatever gets in the way, be it money, location, or what goes on the line, if it can't be made it can't be made, and all he can do is beat those who step in the ring with him.

None taken really..Just being a wise A$$ back...not trying to start anything i'm not like that ( I never take anything from messeage boards serious ) So no offense I hope...
As far as Super Middles go Joe is most likely the best we have had...Jones didnt stick around there long enough...I just hate when fighters claim their superiority and have nothing to back it up...Jones as EG..was P4P best but fought bums at LH..and IMO his win over Ruiz was nothing to brag about.. if he was so good why target the weakest champion when you called out the rest??...IMO one fight at LH or Middle against a top guy would Validate Joe's career..just IMO

Calzaghes never fought anyone near Hopkins' level. Sure Hopkins is old but he's crafty. I don't get what you guys see in Calzaghe. Sure his quite fast, sort of heavy handed but never really been test by a top P4P guy.

Oh yeah he has a string of impressive opp he has beaten on his list...Chgris Eubank?? a Washed up Charles Brewer..Omar " every one worth a dime has beat ya" Sheika?? Lacey is his best name....Hey I dont fault a guy for sitting at Super Middle and holding on to what he has but DONT,,,SIT HERE AND TRY TO SAY HE HAS BEATEN A LINE OF TOP CALIBER OPPONENTS...TO SAY SUCH A THING...WHY HASNT JOE CHASED ANY BIG MONEY FIGHTS???...Dont speak as a fan of the fighter speak as a fan of the game....Joe is a decent fighter who has kept hold of a weak division...As Super Middle he is the man...One step up or down and he is no body...PROVE DIFFERENT...Valuev has beaten Etienne,Donald Ruiz and Beck so I suppose he is a great HW..
Perhaps the quoting is just to remphasise the point made by wacko and that he believes it was expressed so well that he couldn't say it better himself, and so left it to the original words.
Yah, and monkeys my fly outta my butt.
OOHHHH... :pointlol: How funny are you...Monkeys outta my butt..lol lol lol...The trailer has no indoor plumbing yet you still manage to keep your sense of humor... Thank you for again showing us why blood relatives shouldn't marry :bananastyle:
cool down mate, i was only teasin ya.
Olive branch gladly accepted ;) I agree that a title fight at LH would be a good idea....perhpapse a spring date against the winner of Johnson v Woods might well be a likely possibility should he look for that step up.

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Calzaghe should fight 3 guys just into their prime and preferably with unbeaten records. If he does that, he is a legend in my book.

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
I'd like his next fight to be against Kessler, althought Calzaghes the champion theres still doubt to whether or not his the best guy in the division. By defeating Kessler he would definately prove himself a great super middle, & would able to move on to a super fight or 2 to finish out his career

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Calzaghes still got a few fights in him, fight Kessler to get respect, then Jones Jr for the money, then Taylor if Tayors ready to move up.

Joe and alot of people sought out a fight with Sven Ottke and they were all refused. As a matter of fact I've heard JC calling out Bernard and Roy Jones for the last 4-5 years. In your opinion though, why would Hopkins beat Joe?
Calzaghes never fought anyone near Hopkins' level. Sure Hopkins is old but he's crafty. I don't get what you guys see in Calzaghe. Sure his quite fast, sort of heavy handed but never really been test by a top P4P guy.
I'm with you on Joe not ever fighting someone on Bernard's level, although he's been in there with some great fighters. But what great fighters has Hopkins' destroyed? Tito is a glorified puncher, ODLH was a blown up lightweight, even though he was the better boxer in those fights he couldn't get passed Taylor's athleticism, Tarver was a joke. The only person who Hopkins' has fought thats on Calzaghe's level is Roy Jones, and he lost. What I'm trying to say is Hopkins' won't keep up with Joe's output. He can't connect with those lunging shots when Joe won't give him any distance, and Bernard can't outfight him on the inside. Thats just my opinion of why Bernard couldn't beat Joe, but in your opinion why would Joe not stand a chance? I wanna know how he does it though, saying this guys fought better than that guy helps nothing at this point mang :)

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
I've seen Calzaghe fight & I've seen Hopkins fight, now sure Hopkins isn't what he used to be when he beat Tito but he's not for off. I feel that Hopkins is just too well schooled for Joe. He knows all the tricks in the book. I reckon Hopkins would out hustle Joe on the inside & give him to many angles on the outside. What I've seen of Joe he for some reason seems to fight the other guys fight. Hopkins IMO would have to just have to much for Joe. Beat him on the inside or rough him up, & outslick him on the outside.
The Jones that Hopkins fought was in his prime, a guy so good that for 10 years nobody knew he had no chin. & if you could could you please let me know what fights you think are great that Calzaghe has fought

Re: Calzaghe:I have 3 fights left.
Old or not Eubank is a far better name than most on Hopkins' resume, Omar Sheika, Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid, and yes the Lacy win ;D
Alot of people thought Jeff was the greatest thing since sliced bread till he lost. Instead of realizing the truth and saying, yes Lacey is a great banger - not a master boxer and Joe is, thats that. They say Lacy is nothing and Joe is still nothing because he hasn't beaten anyone. It's a type of judgemental, critical, know-it-all bullshit that plagues boxing and we should steer clear as far away from it as we can. It's been the most consistance annoyance since the sport has been in the public spotlight. But I'm a firm believer that my opinion is an opinion, not fact. Alot of people (sheeples) don't see it that way (Lyle!) ;D
