Clottey looked unimpressive last night. A B fighter, maybe a B+. Margarito ought to beat him, but it wouldn't prove much if he did. I'd much rather see him against Quintana or Collazzo, or to go up to 154 and fight people his own size.
True, I heard he wanted Quintana so why not try to make the fight

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I remember Zab Judah fighting Cosme. People said it was a mandatory and that Zab had to take it and everyone was saying that Rivera was a bum and didn't belong in the ring with Zab Judah and that Judah was a bum for taking the fight. But now Margarito is fighting Cosme Rivera and the excuse his fans are using is that Cosme Rivera is his mandatory ??? What you hate on one fighter with you defend your fighter with. Two wrongs doesn't make a right...although two negatives make a positive :)

Nicely said bro, although Judah didn't have to take that fight, he chose to.

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I thought Cosme was his number one contender? would he have lost his title if he hadn't fought him?
Besides, Rivera was annoying with his taunting, he said he would spank Zab and send him back to his daddy and then gets dropped with the first punch of the fight
-
Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
This will just make it that much more satisfying if this Rivera fight gets made and Margarito loses. He won't even have a good "it was at 154" excuse this time, since Rivera's only been there for a few months.

I'm with you on that--I'd love to see that and I'd give the edge to Quintana. Margarito would actually deserve good fights if he could get past Quintana.

Judah only would have lost his belt, it only holds up his pants. You can't lose you championship cause you didn't fight someone!

Yeah you're right. But I wouldn't have wanted to see Cosme with a title despite how little it meant

I don't recognise them so they don't mean sh*t to me

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I wouldn't recognize them either. But I don't want to see "IBF Champion Cosme Rivera" anywhere on any boxing list. But since this whole Margarito fight I want Margarito to win impressively, if he doesn't then :dontknow:

All I'm saying is that you can say Margarito is overated when he is beaten by at least a B+ fighter, personally if he can't get a Mosely/Mayweather/Hatton/Winky then I'd love to see him fight Kassim Ouma. That would be a terrific fioght because Kassim could very conceivably box him for 12 rounds straight, but also has a slight vunerability in his chin, thus giving us a Bull vs Matador style fight which I love to watch, very ala Sam Peter vs Wlad but without the height difference.
Excellent points CC. The only thing I disagree with is going up to 154,all the big fights are at 147 and I'd prefer him to stay there and fight dangermen like Collazo,Quintana etc etc. He is headlining December 2 with Cotto so that's a chance for Tony to gain even more exposure.
So Margarito against Winky Wright, Kassim Ouma, Alex Garcia, Ike Quartey, Vernon Forrest or Spinks wouldn't be big fights at 154? All there is at 147 is Mayweather. And maybe Quintana. The real big fights are at 154.
Wright is not 154 and if these other fighters you mentioned want Margarito so badly they should move down to fight him like Clottey has done.
Right now I have a feeling that Hatton is a bigger draw than Spinks, Margarito a bigger draw than Ouma, Colazzo, Williams and Baldomir as big as Quartey, Cintron a bigger draw than Forest, Quintana and Berto are a bigger draw than Garcia.

I said Margarito had signed to fight Rivera... sorry was meaning talked about fighting Rivera, who gives a sh*t if he's a mandatory, belts don't mean S***. Should have fought Wright & tried to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
I totally disagree because if mandatories were inforced by a more powerful commision then guys like Mayweather wouldn't be able skate through all the devisions and would be forced to fight the toughest competition. It seems that in most sports winners eventually face other winners for ONE championship and the managers and cable networks have nothing to sat about it.
I totally disagree because if you don't fight an underseving mandatory they strip your bogus title, most fighters want to fight the best so why should they fear having a crap belt taken from them because they wanna fight a top guy & someone the fans wanna see them fight.
I believe that promoters should remain promoting any fight they want but I also believe that there needs to be more commisional structure that forces unification as most promoters and fighters "claim" to want. This would also take care of less desirable mandatories.

This statement is pure "grabbing at straws" for Margarito has been fighting at this weight for years and has never had any problems making that weight.
He is trying to make a statement at that weight and the one above it as well but everyone is ducking him including Judah, Vargas, PBF, Wright, Baldomir,etc.... --Just read the boxing magazines announcers and other boxers and face reality.
Margarito is after Quintana but Quinata also has an excuse and claims he is weighting to fight Hatton but Hatton who already has a fight with Urkal. http://foro.univision.com/univision/...ssage.id=13092
No one wants to see Margarito fight either of the Rivers and I also agree that he should fight Williams, Quintana and Clottey who in my opinion would be as or more interesting to watch than mayweather or most of the boxers mentioned above.
-
Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I totally disagree, like I stated earlier,a win over Clottey would be impressive for the simple fact that Clottey was beating Badlomir until being DQ'ed and Baldomir is right/wrong,seen as the man at 147. Quintana has a win over Joel Julio which was impressive too so I'd like to see that fight too.
Actually Margarito bulks up to get to 154,he doesn't struggle to make 147 at all and yes the big fights are at 147:Cotto,Baldo,Floyd,Hatton,Collazo etc etc
At 154,there is Rivera,Ouma and a couple of others but I'd prefer to see the figts at 147..

Isn't Wright co-promo-ing with Oscar now? Yep.
Watch how many fighters Arum turns down & uses that excuse with Margarito's best interests in hand.
Total douche bag.
Yeah.....Arum is just like King.....they are total blowhards when every one is quiet then when people step up and accept the challenge they retract and accuse or slander/discredit those individuals.....F*** Arum.....:) and F*** King while I'm at it....:)

Clottely was beating Baldomir (we assume has anyone ever seen this fight?) 7 freakin years ago Game.
Jones was Hopkins and Toney 7 years ago, you fancy his chances now?

CC. And I'll just say it again--Clottey looked totally unimpressive on Saturday night. That would be just this past Saturday--2 days ago. Anyone who's top 5-10 in the division ought to beat him pretty handily. Would prove nothing if Margarito fought/beat him.

Why should they move down, apparently it was Margarito how was willing to fight anybody but everybody was too scared. Now we are beginning to get a list of fights that he has turned down for one reason or another.
I think it is becoming "Margarito will fight anybody, as long as he agree's to fight them!"

Hatton is probably a bigger draw than Spinks, Margarito and Ouma are probably about the same, and Quintana/Berto/Garcia are all pretty equally not much of a draw.
I think you're wrong on the others:
Quartey is a WAY bigger draw than Colazzo (known to most only for the Hatton fight), Williams (a prospect who has beaten even less good fighters than Margarito) or Baldomir (who is sturdy but not exciting, and was completely unknown until a year ago);
Forest is a way bigger draw than Cintron--Forest beat Mosely twice (sure, it was another time, but people know him because of it), whereas most people have never heard of Cintron or seen him fight.

Winky has never fought for over 4 million in his life so it proves he was scared
No.. it proves Arum is smart to make sure that Margarito don't fight these guys. Winky asked for more money and he would fight Margarito and Arum wouldn't do it... now Floyd turns down 8 milliom dollar pay day and Arum won't offer that pay day to Wright which is the "more money" he could get?
Riiight you believe Arums little game if you want ::**

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
At the time PBF was twice the name as Winky since Winky hadnt really fought a big name except Vargas and a washed up Tito. Oh and I amost forgot about little Mosley.

Re: Oh Dear, Someone has called Margarito's bluff....
I dont remember but I wanted Tito to win and thought he had a good chance but he was obviously not himslef. I did not bet on him though like the time I made a killing when he beat Oscar.

:rotflmao: "since Winky hadn't really fought a big name except Vargas, Tito and Mosley!!"
Coming from a Margarito supporter its unbelievable. There is noway that this "poor" record of Winky victories could possibly compare to the roll-call of HoF fighters that makes up his record.
