Re: Sweet Pea - Pretty Boy
Pernell Whitaker was far past his prime when he fought Tito, he was in his mid-thirties, he had been on cocaine and failed a couple of drug test and he had been inactive from the ring, Trinidad on the other hand was in his prime at the strong age of 26 and it was the fight before his mega match up with De La Hoya.

hmm u mite be right about the whittaker thing i thinks its an impression i got from a backstage vid and some dosgy commentary of whittaker before a tito fight once which was about two fights b4 he fought pernell. but i still believe tito would do him at his prime, i guess im pretty big on tito.
but i dont agree tito was at his best before de la hoya?? i mean i dont believe he deserved to beat dlh but it seems alot of the time judges fail to score well when you use the stick and move strategy, but what about david reid, vargas, joppy etc and to be honest i think he could have still been at his peak when he lost to the executioner but tito always came forward and bhop was more of a superior tacticican if he had of not fought hopkins and took some other great fights i think he could have been up there for a few years.. but then i guess we wouldnt have seen trinidad-mayorga...which frankly..rocked!

Tito was at his peak from 99 until his first retirement. I am big on Tito also (second favorite fighter of all time) but I am also big on Pernell (First favorite fighter of all time) and I don't think Tito would have been able to hit Pernell in his prime. As far as the Bernard fight is concerned people give Oscar the benefit of the doubt for losing to Bernard with size being the excuse but they do not give the same excuse to Tito (Why). 20/20 hindsight but Tito could have ruled 154 for years, to bad his ego got in the way.

guess we'll never know but whittaker's name looks mighty good on tito's record lol. i dunno bout ppl giving oscar excuses man i mean cos in all honest oscar has broad shoulders and a text book style that gets you moving back, so he had no excuse, tito however was so used to coming forward and hopkins was god at picking you off so it was enivitable. i dont know if it was tito's ego cos i mean he knew his power was unheard of and the bookie's and fans all expected tito to beat him but i think it was a bad choice from the start, guess its was a strange choice but he was tricked into believing he was a better middlewieght than he was when he took out joppy.
Re: Sweet Pea - Pretty Boy
Floyd has the utmost respect for Sweet PEa, I believe he has even said before, that in his prime he doesn't believe he could beat him.. and his Uncle Roger has probably alot to do with that... Sweet P was schooling him with ease until he got cocky and Roger dropped him... But Pernell got right back up and commenced the clinic... Keep in mind Roger had quite a bit more power than Floyd does, anyone who thinks Floyds edge in power would bother Pernell, that honestly makes me laugh out loud... Pernell was at a disadvantage in power in almost every big fight he ever had, much like Floyd is... But it didn't mean squat.
Re: Sweet Pea - Pretty Boy
i get what your saying, and ive never acually seen floyd be anything but polite and quite respectful in interviews etc... but did you ever hear about him mouthing at hatton at the first taylor-hopkins fight?
and also apparently he had actually said to sugar ray leonard that if they had fought that he would hav knocked him out. what u reckon?

Who has ever countered Floyd Mayweather? He has only been countered a few times and that was against Zab Judah who is way faster than Whitaker even in his prime.
