Bro Pryor & Leonard used to be close friends but once Leonard hit the big time he shunned Pryor. Pryor wanted help from Leonard to get exposure but Leonard wouldn't help him. Pryor asked him on numerous occasions for them to make a fight if he wanted it to be purely business & Leonard kept on saying it's a possibility but never took it further than that. IMO Leonard avoided the one guy who would show him up.
where did u hear they used to be freinds ??? r u sure they didnt just make eachother aquaintence a few times
Bro they used to room together everywhere they went as ametuers, Pryor said they were once really close.

Hagler won tha tfight, no question...if you think the opposite, quit boxing, or at least pro boxing, the amateur boxing with the "touch counter" suits you better :lickish: ;D
One of those "morons" scored the fight for Marv. ;D
Leonard got into Haglers head well before fight night. Hagler was that intent on teaching Ray a lesson he lost the plot.
Watch the first 4 rounds where Marv fights orthodox to prove to Ray he can beat him while not even fighting his
natural style. He gave Ray 4 rounds start. :o

Coach to be fair they were BOTH VERY out of their prime

So you don't blame Hagler at all for giving the first 3 rounds away.. if he had won 2 of those first 3 rounds he'd still be champ but he decided to fight orthodox for the majority of them. It aint Leonards fault for taking advantage of what Hagler wasn't doing.

I completely forgot that bro :D
but ok still, I really really think that Hagler won...he didn't deserved this decision, as the champ he made the fight. you can't win a fight fighting only 30secondes per rounds.
-
Re: Did Ray Leonard avoid Aaron Pryor?
im sorry but i dont think hagler won the fight everybody has different opinions i think hagler gave away first 4 rounds and i dont think hagler won next 7 or 8 rounds either an you said nobody had leonard winning the fight ?? i think more people had him winning than losing

Just to be clear....
When I say 5 years, I mean it as a hypothetical statement when it somes to Tommy and SRL...
I only mean that SRL made everyone wait till he got the money right to fight Tommy...Like I said, he was about making that Payday, while others were just wanting to fight....

Yeah bro I had Leonard winning that fight, I lost a lot of respect for Hagler after that fight & still til today he holds a lot of bitterness towards Leonard. Leonard didn't score the fight! Hagler is a sore loser & has shown his bad sportsmanship!!!

Re: Did Ray Leonard avoid Aaron Pryor?
I loathe Leonard and like The Hawk; but there is no way Leonard avoided this fight...
Timing made this fight impossible.
Pryor only became viable as a Leonard opponent post ArguelloI, and by that time Leonard had retired, and Pryor was only a year away from damaging his eye and pretty much ending his 'world class' career himself.

Who damaged his eye? Was THAT why he got knocked out because he was blind in one eye?

He injured his eye in sparring for the Arguello rematch, kept it quiet and retired after the fight... but then the demons really kicked in ;)
This article I wrote explains it:

He was on Crack at the time! ;D
I think that is the best reason I can come up with...
He said the same thing; more articulately:
"It was a Manifestation of the influence of drugs I was taking."

Re: Did Ray Leonard avoid Aaron Pryor?
so when he was stopped on his feet he put his feet together and the held his arms out like a cross? Or did he lay on the ground?

No, he crossed his forearms in the shape of the cross
-
Re: Did Ray Leonard avoid Aaron Pryor?
was this before or after he was stopped or was it during it? So the ref waves the fight over and Pryor makes his forearms like a cross? You saw it? then what happened?

I have seen film of the stoppage of the Young fight:
He made the cross whilst on his feet, the ref continued to count him out whilst he was on his feet.
-
Re: Did Ray Leonard avoid Aaron Pryor?
oh I get it. Was he knocked down?
So he got up and had the cross with his arms as the ref counted him out? if that was the case then I'm glad the fight was stopped.
-

He took a right hand and went down on his knee, got up, made the sign as the ref continued the count...

Thats very different from jumping up and hitting the other guy isn't it? Why'd the ref keep counting? Pryor look gone?

I think the ref just used his common sense. Young was no more than a Journeyman; Pryor anywhere near his prime would of won easily...
Pryor just should not of been in the ring. Florida wrongly IMO let him fight, the ref saved him.

yeah, he should have stayed retired as undefeated champ. But sometimes fighters can't find anything to give them the rush and get on that stuff. Pernell Whitaker being an example but he stepped away from it now just as Pryor did, I just feel bad it took him so long to come around, where was his people to try to help them they all took the money and left and thats sad.

Pryor was asking Leonard for a fight even before he made his 1st defense against Gaeton Hart. Leonard was the one who never took it any further!
