Leonard vs. Hagler

I watched the fight live on TV at the time.

Thought Hagler won.

My frends got em the video to wind me up, so I have watched it many times since.

I still think Hagler won ............ at the very least, I don't think Leonard did enought to take away his title.

IMO I didnt think that Leonard won the first 4. Dont remember how i saw each round (would have to rewatch it) but SRL didnt sweep the first 4

I thought He lost the third

Leonard Won the fight. It was the right decision.

I think Hagler landed the harder shots but Ray fought a smart fight and won the rounds but a whisker IMO.


Hagler threw away the early rounds by trying to match Rays boxing skills but when he came on strong at the end it was to late.

If it had been a 15 rounder I think Hagler would have stopped the great SRL.

Hagler's big mistake was giving into all of SRL's demands before the fight. The size of the ring and the number of rounds. The biggest thing was the size of the ring, SRL had way to much room to run.

I read somewhere that Hagler was tricked into demanding it over 12 rounds by SRL.

SRL's team said they wanted it over 15 rounds and Haglers camp to be difficalt said straight away it had to be over 12 rounds which Ray wanted in the first place.

Dont know if it is true but its a good story.

Yeah I don't know about that, Haglar was one of the best conditioned fighters ever. By dropping the amount of rounds he was only making things harder for himself. Maybe he thought Leonard was much further gone & he'd be able to get him outta there early. Big mistake by Hagler if it's true!
