Speaking of Simon Brown.. remember that fight with his pal Blocker back in the late 80‘s early 90‘s??.. man was that a brutal KO. Brown really felt bad after that fight emotionally .
Yea I remember, he went over to hug Mourice before the ref could fucking stop the fight, Blocker was so skinny, it looked like he had a eating disorder

Oscar De La Hoya v Ricardo Mayorga
THAT Uppeercut, his biggest shot of the night, from the "PUNCHER" Mayorga, and Oscar looked straight back into his eyes, as the commentators said "And Mayorga must be thinking he cannot beat De La Hoya as his biggest shot has been thrown and Oscar looks straight back at him!!!!!!!
Thats why Oscar is the best......EVER!

It wasnt a full on hit , oscar avoided the damage he didnt take it.
I seem to remember Lennox giving Vitali a mammoth of an uppercut which didnt floor him, but it was sick

Re: Best punches that didn't......
you know when your stunned the level before out on your feet, well Oscar wasnt Oscar was shocked, meaning he couldnt belive the BUM Mayorga caught him, that was Mayorgas punching chance, and it didnt affect Oscar.
I respect your opinion, but go to youtube, and watched the highlights, MayorgA bangs Osacr and 2 seconds later Oscar looks PISSED BIG TIME!!!!!
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......

Same, im not wanting to argue or anything i respect your opinion also but for some reason i just remember watching the slow mo replay and thinking "ooo that COULD have been so bad for Oscar had he connected well" ,
That highlights unfourtunately has no slow mo of the punch (though it does look like it connects), ill check this thread tommorow aagain to see if anyone does know about the punch as id like to know what really happened.

check out the clip and look at Oscar's reaction, its takes him a moment to get his barrings back. Ricardo jumps on him to see where he is at. I can promise you the punch landed ! ;D

M8y you answered your own question in your first sentence.
COULD
Therefore meaning it could have been serious for Oscar b ut it wasnt
As I stated it didnt.
I agree Slow Motion is ,much better, but Oscar is shocked for 2 seconds, NEVER stunned, cuz belive you me if Oscar was stunned, Oscar wouldnt have been standing 30 seconds later

Re: Best punches that didn't......
The right hands Arguello hit Pryor with definitley come to mind, how he stood up to them, is amazing .....the answer may have been in the bottle "THE ONE THAT I MIXED". But one fight between Ike Williams and Beau Jack that I seen was filled with brutal bone crunching bombs that would have K.O.d a locker room full of boxers. Two true warriors with huge hearts.

Iran Barkely caught Roberto Duran flush in their fight, a punch that would have KO'd virtually anybody else and Duran took it like the warrior he was.

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Oh just thought of another one, how could I forget!
Frank Bruno catching and staggering Tyson in their first fight!

De La Hoya also took a big right hand from Ike Quartey in I think the 9th round. It slightly lifted one of his legs but he didn't go down.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Corrales/Castillo 1, Chico caught JLC with a left hook at the end of the 7th (I believe) round that buckled Castillos's legs severly. Dont know how he stayed up, looked like he was going down but half way down he stood back up.
CC Oumafan for starting the thread!

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Good responses
To throw in a body shot, Duran hit Davey Moore with an absolutely brutal hook to the body in the final round of their fight. Pretty much lifted him off the ground.
Wayne McCullough's fights with Harrison and the second fight with Larrios were filled with nasty punches that Wayne took, too many just to pick out one really. What a chin, but those two fights were hard to watch.

I was thinking of those two Mccullough fights. Also he took some unbelivable single shots from Naz that i'd bet would of knocked over many another solid chinned featherweight
Cant think of a single shot but McCall taking full pelt right hands from Lewis whilst he was walking about with his arms at his side was scary ;D
The Lewis uppercut on Vitali is a stand out. :o Everytime.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
And the punches he took versus Morales too, all through his career really.
In the past twenty years, maybe since Hagler's retirement since that was about twenty years ago, I'm not sure there's been a guy with a better chin than McCullough. Definitely has to be on the list.

Just happen to see that fight this morning.
CC. for that one.
Pryors head snaps back and you can see his eyes out of sync with his head but just comes forward looking in the wrong direction like nothing happened. :o At that point you can almost read it in Alexis body language that he knew there was nothing he could do to hurt none the less stop the 'Hawk' that night.
Honestly after watching this fight again today.....FWOCK every single HUGE right hand Arguello through in the fight especially in the 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th rd. Pryor would stagger but wouldn't fall and just came forward.
Which is what leads me to believe that the "water" was mixed. ;)
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
The left hooks from Corrales that Castillo stood up to, was staggered by but didn't go down, especially late in the seventh and all through the 8th were just incredibly hard punches. I just watched it again, Chico's left hook was beautiful the first fight, and the 8th round was incredible. I forgot how good that round was.
-
Re: Best punches that didn't......
Kostya Tszyu nailed Hatton with a perfect 'chicken dancer' right cross in the 8th round, god knows how rick didn't go down

Re: Best punches that didn't......
Tyson's first round combo on Danny Williams...
but this shot always makes me wonder if Naz's chin was pretty underated...
