The Hearns in the 1st Lenoard fight would have Pryor at his best out of there in 4rds

pryor was winning quite comfortably in my book even without the drink he always has burst of energy he can fight at frantic pace like that watch 2nd arguello no one really knows about drink or ect all i know is pryor always fought frantic pace in every fight and in my opinion he had arguellos number there is no shame in losing to a great fighter like pryor plus pryor changed his tactic in first arguello fight if u watch documentary he said arguello expected me to keep swinging swinging and pryor said he knew he wouldnt be able to beat him that way and started to box after that can i just ask what your scorecard was after 14 rounds because i felt pryor was winning quite comfortably by about 3 or 2 rounds
The second fight is not the point here,Arguello was coming towards the end there,at a different weight class, after a monstrous war,he was never going to be the same. However,in the first fight, I don't care what anyone says,Arguello was beating Pryor's ass for 3 consecutive rounds before being stopped AFTER pRYOR drank whatever it is he drank. I have NEVER seen someone's (Pryor) next snapped back so far in my life, those were some of the most brutal shots I've seen!

you say arguello wouldnt be same after war like that what about pryor aswell ?? he took some brutal shots pryor just changed his tactic into a boxer and beat arguello thats all there is to it he was winning because pryors brawling tactic wernt working in middle rounds then he changed into boxer thats why pryor started winning again arguello come on in round 7 and 8 he wernt coming on at the end pryor started winning fight round about 10 or 11th if i remember right pryor just had arguellos number theres nothing wrong in that pryor is great fighter even greats struggle against boxer where there style doesnt work take ali for example vs ken norton same thing styles were all wrong for ali and it was same for arguello
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
Come on bro,Arguello had a much longer career and many more wars up until that point!! Many more thus that one included, they would have caught up to him in by the time the second fight came. And as SRL said during the fight, there was no clear pattern when Pryor was boxing,he wasn't putting on a clinic and did not have total control(it's a shame Alexis had NO IDEA how to fight boxers!). Even in the 13th Arguello was landing BOMBS on Pryor and then Pryor comes off his bench after having his drink and just goes insane on Alexis ass. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Wrong.... Arguello won rds. 7 & 8 like you stated. rd. 9 was Pryor and in rds. 10, 11, 12 & even the begining of the 13th Arguello landed some sharp right hands that would have knocked anybody either out or at the very least down. But not Pryor, regardless of what you and I say that fight is tarnished and questionable. If you mention again the rematch I reply with the same thing I told you on the other thread neither fighter was ever the same after that kind of fight.
It's like saying JCC beat the same Meldrick in their rematch. Everybody knows it's not the same. Same goes for this fight, I think that was gonna be Arguellos last Hurrah! defeating Pryor then retiring as a champ.

Agreed...Pryor did have Alexis number...Every fighter no matter how great have that one guy who has their number...Funny how it usually a guy who is not the boxer they are but even though the skill level is not the same for some reason or another they can not beat the guy...EG Mosley/Forrest.....Alexis best days were behind him and Pryor is just one of the damn toughest to ever put on the gloves at anyweight...They are true legendary rivals...they rank up there with Robinson/LaMotta...Ali/Frazier ect....both great champions as well
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
You can't really count the amateur fight they had - Hearns was 17 fighting a mature 20 year ols, plus he was strictly a boxer only in his amateur days.
As a pro, he was much taller than Aaron and had the power to keep Pryor off him. Even in the amateur bout, whenever Hearns actually stood his ground I thought he had the measure of Pryor - he just didn't have the strength to do it at that age for long.
Hearns (as a mature pro) would have been too big, too strong, too fast and too skilled for Pryor. Pryow was a great fighter too, though, so he would have always had that puncher's chance against Tommy - I just don't see him winning more than one or two out of ten against the real 'Hit Man' though.
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
alot of people mention how great Pryor was in the Arguello fight. I think the way he fought was how you fight a guy moving up. Anyone who is a legit champion wants to test the chin of a guy moving up. Hagler did the same with Hearns at middleweight. Takes alot of determination to do that and ability to take the punches which will land. and Arguello and Hearns hit Pryor and Hagler. but I think had Arguello or Hearns won it would have been a better accomplishment than when Pryor and Hagler won just for the fact that Arguello and Hearns were moving up.
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
HEARNS FOR ME BUT IF PRYOR HADNT GONE TO DRUGS THEN WHO KNOWS
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
Hearns had the greater achievements but Pryor was IMO the better fighter!
Re: who is greater? Thomas Hearns or Aaron Pryor.
I am not sure if Pryor was the greater fighter. The wins Hearns had like Cueves, Benitez and Duran and Hill are some of the nicest showing of a great fighter. Hearns biggest enemy was himself. He had a tendency to brawl when he did not have to. He had the puncher mentality. So even when he could box he went for the knockout. Not a bad record for a guy who took chances and fought the best 61-5-1
