So you want fast hands, the head harness one.
All good thanks Scrap :)
Maybe after I've got this fixed up my boxing will be only 40 % crap rather than 80 % crap ;D
I'm looking forward to it!
:o
When you throw a cross especially after a jab you shift your weight and pivot your body....you slingshot your arm through the punch...it's almost like throwing a baseball only you don't follow through like you're on a pitching mound.
I do get the idea of the movement Lyle. I'm not sure my problem has been knowing that the body needs to go into the cross just having the posture which allows me to put it into the cross.
I think it is because my head was too far forward a lot of the time. Maybe you can see what I mean if you try it yourself. Compare pivoting your body around with good relatively upright posture and your head balanced properly chin in - to leaning forward with your head and chin sticking out.
The later seems to be restrictive. It feels like you can't put your body in to the same extent. I think I was trying to put my body into the punch in this restrictive posture and just getting frustrated because i couldn't do it.
Its the hip more then anything Sharla,it creates the whip you need
Allow me to show you an instructional video.

.....do everything he does re: the cross
You didn't comment on my theory about what prevents me from putting my shoulder into my cross.
So are you saying that you don't believe head angle and position have anything to do with it?
Nope the head position has less to do with it than you think. If you are leaning forward watch Miguel Cotto and Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson throw right crosses those guys were very good at it.
I know they are all hook guys but they used the cross effectively...Joe's right cross to the stomach was one of his money punches....you use the cross to open up the hook.
They also leaned forward as Sharla was explaining was her problem
Lyle the head has everything to do with it.
....I understand that but they were still leaning forward when they threw their crosses and they are/were successful at it.
So either she needs to stand more upright and tuck the chin in to throw a proper cross a la Wladimir Klitschko. OR she needs to watch Cotto and Frazier land their crosses and emulate them.
I suggest fighting more upright, but that's just me
