I noticed alot of the crew choosing Carnera. Yeah Carnera was an unskilled stiff, but at least he showed a ton of heart getting off the the deck, god knows how many times, after eating right hand bombs from Max Bear. I think he got up 10-11 times.Quote:

Cross, I think he gets a bum deal he bxed and beat some fair guys in his time. Jack Sharkey Ernie Schaaf Paolno Uzcudum Tommy Loughran Walter Nuesal all good fighters He lost to a fit Max Baer and got stopped past his best by Joe Louis in 6 at a time when skill beat size, dont forget there were big guys about then. Overall I dont think history has been to kind to him

I think its little unfair to list Mike Weaver but maybe thats just me because i like Weaver, he gave Larry Holmes one hell of a fight and was on the verge of stopping him at one point, Dokes was a skilled fighter with quick hand speed but drug problems wasted his talent, And Bruno was ahead in all of his losses except the Tyson fight but fair point and thats pretty solid list. I think some other fighters are more deserving on that list like John Tate, Primo Carnera, Gerrie Coetzee, Michael Bentt, John Ruiz, etc.Quote:

It is hard to go by all the ABC champions...rather opens the field up a bit too much...but some that come to mind are...In no particular order
Ingmar Johnassen- Had his glory moment when he beat Patterson, hos only other real accomplishments were over a young Cooper...His chin was made of Fine China...A good punch is all he had on him
Jimmy Braddock- He was a sentimental favorite and still is today but as champion he never even defended the title
Leon Spinks- He should actually be forst on the list, he upset Ali, an old Ali that many question his heart in the fight...Other then that the only think Leon is known for is a big gap in his teeth and being the "Brother" of Michael
Gerrie Coetzee- :rolleyes::confused::(....:D.....:confused::(....I t's OK thats what everyone does when his name is mentioned...He beat Leon Spinks, Scott LeDoux and was a whipping post for the rest...His shining moment came when he upset Dokes...He was starched by Page in his first defense
Francesco Damiani- :stars:......No you are not confused and the guy above was COETZEE.....I did not post the same name twice...Though they fall into the same catagory....Won the WBO title when it was unknown....defended it once against a hometown guy in Italy then was starched by Mercer for the belt
Buster Douglas- He had a great night against a shit version of Tyson, the gift on the count, and whole lot of momentum going for him that night...THEN...well there was no and then...Evander beat him like a drunk in-law he gained 300lbs went into a sugar coma and can barely speak of the night due to a swollen tounge but he had that one night
Honorable mentions...Henry Akinwande, Tommy Morrison, Michael Bentt

Even I will admit that Sergie Lyakhovich was a shitty champion. And I am a BIG SL fan. He had an awesome fight to win his title, then when it came to defend it,..........he really stunk up the place. I was so disappointed. My whole family was there to see this fighter that I had been supporting. I think that after that they thought I was in some kind of cult that propped up shitty boxers. THen his comeback has been almost as crappy as his defense.
But I would say That Briggs was a shittier champion.
Ruiz is a better champion than you all give him credit for, he has been competitive with many different people.......despite his shitty ass style.
i got to say the ambling alp primo carnera most of his fights where fixed.
i dont know why people would have buster douglas and hasim rahman they
both had great jabs douglas could knock guys out with a jab the main problem he had was mental phsically he had the tools to be a great champion if only his mind was right, could be abit chiny at times tho

Pinklon Thomas never particularly impessed me. Mike Weaver is another one. As mentioned above Carnera was probably among the worst. That said I have seen some footage where he actually looked ok and had decent speed for such a big guy.
I was always a fan of "The Boss"....He gave a good efforet whenever he stepped in the ring...never to be mistaken with a fighter of exceptional talent but there was just something likable about the guy as a fighter...Maybe it was the fact he always gave an hinest effort in there and tried the best with what he had....Quote:
