since this became a thread about ASIAN cuisine, especially of the shady kind let me clarify some thangs bros. being of ASIAN descent but being born and raised in CHICAGO my common diets included: deep dish pizza, italian beefs, and cheezy fries, and cant forget white castle. ive never ate anything shady such as dogs or cats neither has anyone in my family, but i could see how a third world nation or an extremely poor family would not have a choice to in their home country.

in my opinion the best Asian Cuisine is as follows:

1) Japanese(Hibachi style DAMN thats grub, sushi etc)
2)Chinese(Mandarin, very tasty grub yo)
3)Thai(spicy, flavorful)

then later on comes Korean food. im not really a big fan of it. the tofu soup is pretty bomb, the bbq is pretty good too.

when you lived in and worked in BEVERLY HILLS like me, u can eat at some of the most AMAZING ASIAN FUSION spots in the world like CRUSTACEANS, Mr CHows. Mr. Chows was the one place i was SCARED that i didnt have enough money to pay for the meal man that place is expensive as F. when i was there this guy bumped into me and apologized. i turned around and it was ADAM SANDLER.

The Koreans eat a lot of kimchi and rice goes along with that. Koreans eat a lot of side dishes. These could be things crab, chillies all sorts of things. usually marinaded in sauces of different type. The Koreans also eat a lot of fish. I actually dont like fish and its very difficult if I go to the beach because there are row after row of only seafood restaurants. The scariest one is baby octopus. They octopus comes on the plate and is dead but still writhing around. My friend went to the beach with his girlfriend a long time back and she ordered the octopus. He was understandably scared. She started devouring it but was annoyed that he wasnt eating. She offered him a piece writhing between her chopsticks. He reticently bit into it. It was still moving in his mouth and he panicked and if you dont chew quick enough the tentacles will stick to your mouth or tongue. This duly happened and my friend ended up throwing up all around the table. The tentacles did come free thankfully. Quite a popular dish herethough. That is a great story. I shall never forget it!

Love kimchi. Just didn't realize that it was the main stay there. I've got a Korean buddy that makes that S*** up & mean.

I love sushi & the likes...but not octopus...& especially not live.

I've eaten a few Japanese delicacies like live clam & squid...but that's as deep as I'll go.

The Koreans get offended because they feel their culture comes under attack from foreigners about the whole dog eating thing. Prior to the Seoul olympics of '88 there was a widespread campaign from animal rights activists to stop the games going there. And there are special farms here where the dog comes from. They only use some specially farmed breed of dog for the meat, but I have no idea what type of dog goes in there! :-\

Actually, though the Koreans are into a little bit of the old bosin tang there is no real demand for "puss tang". I suppose like any country, long ago and into the depths of poverty and hardship, the unthinkable was sometimes eaten. Korea has very few cats, especially when compared to back home in the UK. I dont think its because they are being eaten though!! ;D

Of course during the Korean war when rations were low they would devour anything edible. Mice and possibly a cat or two. No different to what other countries have done in times of war and harship though.
