Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Don't know for sure but I don't think Mike McCallum ever got stopped?
Or Steve Collins either? ???
-
Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Just checked on boxrec McCallum and Collins indeed were never stopped in their careers.
Probably put down but I can't think of anyone who has fought at the highest level and never been dropped once.
-
Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Calzaghe has never been stopped. I think he's been dropped twice right?Heck when was the last time JC lost,I don't think he even lost in the amatuers did he?Or may be he did a long time ago! I've never seen JLC dropped. Had Pac not stopped him twice,Morales would be here!Wayne McCollugh was tough, Chuvalo was UNREAL!!

I haven't either. But besides the first Corrales fight, he's been TKO'd 4 other times, including once in the 2nd round. You'd have to think he went to the canvas at least once.

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
James toney has only really been knocked down once....
Reggie johnson all the way back in 91..Thats like 18 years ago..
Jones lured him off balance and hit him with a left hook..
And toney was stood starit when hit with a jab against sam peter the second time...
So once in a multiple weight career is pretty immense ;)

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down

JLC never hit the canvas not once.
He has had stopped by the ref and stopped because of cuts, but NEVER been knocked down.

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Castillo was TKO'd in the 2nd round by Cesar Soto. I find it hard to believe that he was TKO'd in the 2nd without going to canvas.
Are you guys sure he didn't go down?

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
funny that i didn't see anyone mention Hector "Macho" Camacho Snr. he never has been dropped (De La Hoya only one to actually do it, but since Camacho tackled the Golden Boy it wasn't counted), and he's never been stopped

He wasn't knocked out, it was a flash knockdown in round one in which Vitali had hurt his hand, between rounds Vitali's corner stopped the fight due to the injury.

David Tua hit canvas against Felix Savon in the amateurs if my memory serves me correctly.

Who are the other fighters of the modern era who have never been stopped?
Even most of the great fighters of the modern era have been stopped at least once in their career. Ali, Ray Leonard, Duran, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Hearns, Trinidad, Barrera, Holyfield, Tyson, Morales, Pacquiao, Azumah Nelson, Lewis, De La Hoya, Chavez, Holmes, Spinks, were all stopped at one time or another.
Off the top of my head, the only longtime fighters who have never lost by KO or TKO are Toney, Hopkins, Mosley, Hagler, Bowe, Lopez. Whitaker lost by TKO in his last fight, but it was because he hurt his shoulder throwing a punch, he was never stopped by an opponent. Winky has never been stopped, although he was knocked down 5 times in a fight once.
I know guys like Mayweather, Taylor, Tarver haven't been stopped, but they haven't fought the same number of fights as the other guys. Let's make it a minimum of 40 career fights. Who else is on the list?
Didn't Mosley get TKO'ed or KO'ed by Forrest?

I think he HAS to take the cake... Sure there are plenty of fighters who have never been stopped, or even never down.... But they are generally good fighters with boxing ability... This guy has less than 20% wins on his record, and has fought a disgusting amount of big HW punchers... I really don't think anyone could top this fella on toughness and chin alone.. THat must be all he has for christs sake.. Ive never seen him fight, but one look at his record makes you think, what in the hell....

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Salvador Sanchez
Juan La Porte was never knocked out and fought names like Salvador Sanchez and Julio Cesar Chavez his only stoppage losses were once by accidental headbutt and the other was when he retired on his stool.
Kid Gavilan 143 fights was never stopped once plus i don't think he was ever knocked down thats amazing.
Carlos Monzon never stopped in 100 fights.
Charley Burley

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Whilst all these mentioned have been great,SRR has to be the best by far!! Especially taking into accoun the number of fights he had and how often he fought! Dam! Gavilan,JCC too. And Sal Sanchez was just amazing. Monzon was a warrior! P4P heaviest hands too!
From today's Gerry Penelosa has been awesome and I agree, with a bit of luck,he would be unbeaten.

Re: Fighters who have never been stopped/knocked down
Just wanted to point out that the only LEGIT knockdown that Toney ever suffered IMO was in 1991 against Reggie Johnson. The KD against Jones, while flashy, was more of being off balance/Jones slamming into him, and Peter's KD was obviously a balance issue as it was just a stiff jab.
When you got someone with the chin and defensive abilities of James Toney, you got a guy who is incredibly hard to knock down.
