i going with a win for barrera by decision

Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Could be a tough fight here but im going with Barrera, whether its points or a stoppage I dont know but Ill surely be having a little wager on this. Maybe im following my heart more than my head sometimes but id find it hard not to back him, no matter who hes against. I expecting a good show here and then I hope a rematch with Manny happens. I know he wont be active for too much longer now but Im hoping for a final assault on the P4P list before he retires.

This is a fight that has been in the making for a looooooooooong long long time. I for one can't wait, this is the one fight that I would go see over Oscar vs Floyd. Should be a smoker.
I agree that there can only be one winner....& that winner shall be:

Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
I'm really in to Marquez this time, he can adapt to any style MAB would throw at him I believe but I could be wrong. THE ULTIMATE COUNTER PUNCHER VS THE MASTER BOXER WHO WINS!!!

Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Don't really know. In Marquez last fight against Jaca(?), he appeared to be a bit past it. Not saying it wasn't a good fight, but I think that might have been what made it an exciting fight, you know?? The Marquez that drew with Pac probably would have Koed Jimrex early, in an uneventful fight. By the same token, Barerra has appeared past it as well, only to show that he is still capable of boxing beatifully and improving on his last performance, even at his age. Basically, if Marquez is able to do the same, I think he could edge it out.... What makes this a difficult fight to pick(among many things, really) is that either one of these guys could have grown old recently. But at the same time, either is capable of putting on another great performance, at least I think so in the case of Marquez.. Barerra has shown that he can. The saying goes your only as good as your last performance, well... I hope that isn't true, for this fight. Not that either man looked bad, especially Barerra, he made the adjustement he needed to beat Juarez with ease... But it will not be the epic battle it once would have been, if you go by each man's last fight. Suppose I lean slightly towards Marquez. I certainly would rather he win, I think he has a better chance to beat Pac in a rematch than Barerra does... But like I say, I could be proved very wrong..
-
Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
I'm totally on the fence for this one. On the one hand I can see Barrera turning in a masterclass performance and proving himself as the greatest Mexican fighter since JCC.
On the other hand I can see a scintillating Marquez performance that overwhelms a war weary Barrera and finally puts Marquez on the map, in emphatic style, like Ricky's emergenance after beating Tyszu or Calzaghe's beatdown of Lacy.
Oh man it's so tough, I'm just voting that the fight will be so good that we will see it again before the end of 2007 :P

Three months prior to that he stopped Jandaeng in seven rounds. He looked damned impressive then.
No offence...but I hope that your'e wrong & I honestly believe that both man knows that if he loses this match then that will equate to no Pacquiao rematch & either a questionalbe legacy or depending on how you look at it...weaker paychecks.

Oh yeah.. well I take offence. Who are you to be coming on here and giving your opinion... Im deeply insulted ;D Seriously, I hope Im wrong too, which I sort of said, Id love to see a great fight from both guys, and obviously they will both be totally motivated to perform at their best... I was simply questioning whether each of them are capable of doing so... Your having seen JMM' previous fight to Jaca really means you probably have a better idea of what could happen, especially since it would be more than understandable for Marquez to have taken Jaca somewhat lightly...

Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Wow, the poll suggests this really is a "pick-em" type of fight.
Im a MAB fan so obviously id be happy to see JMM spread out across the canvas by round 3.
But doubt is a motherfucker!
Im struggling to find a time when MAB faced a guy who was seriously debated as
a) the better boxer and
b) the man with more left in the locker!
I think Barrera will really try to put it on Marquuez (not in the same way Missy would the other, other Marquez :-* ).
He will have to do a lot of everything if he is to succeed. Should be a great effort from Barrera, i think he will be the one to make the fight.
However i don't think he'll be the one to score the Win. I reckon JMM by UD.

GAME, I have no issues with a guy having a laugh in a few pictures. Admittedly, these are not the type of photos anyone would see me in, but each to their own. If this is to be help up as "evidence" of his possible homosexuality then again I dont mind either way.
Its how he performs as a boxer that interests me...his private life is for him and him only to be concerned about...

Its on sky sports 2 at 1am this Sunday morning
Daniel Ponce De Leon, Gerry Penalosa, Demetrius Hopkins and Steve Forbes are all taking part in the Saturday, March 17, Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Juan Manuel Marquez undercard at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and this is good news for fight fans who often get frustrated that they get one marquee scrap and a crummy slate of support bouts when they buy a PPV.
Mexican Daniel Ponce De Leon will put his WBO super bantamweight championship on the line against former world champion Gerry Penalosa of the Philippines. And in a junior welterweight showdown with major title implications, Demetrius Hopkins puts his unbeaten record on the line against former world champion and a season two finalist of The Contender, Steve Forbes.
Ponce De Leon (30-1, 28 KOs) is a native of Chihuahua, Mexico, and the 26-year-old southpaw won his first world title October 29, 2005, when he outpointed Thailand’s previously unbeaten Sod Looknongyangtoy in 12 rounds. After a second round knockout over Gerson Guerrero in his first title defense, De Leon met Looknongyangtoy again last July, but this time, the rapidly improving champion was in fearsome form as he knocked his challenger out in only 52 seconds. In October 2006, De Leon made the third defense of his crown with an eighth round blowout of Al Seeger.
Gerry Penalosa (51-5-2, 34 KOs), a seasoned southpaw from Manila with close to 18 years as a pro to his name, has gone 5-0 with three knockouts since his return to the ring in 2004 after a two-year layoff. He is a former WBC super flyweight world champion with three defenses under his belt who impressively stopped highly regarded contender Mauricio Martinez in his last outing October 21, 2006.
The nephew of middleweight legend Bernard Hopkins, Demetrius Hopkins has compiled 25 wins (10 by knockout) with no losses and a single technical draw. The current USBA junior welterweight champion, “The Gladiator” was once seen as strictly a technician in the ring, but with four of his last six wins coming by knockout over topnotch competition, opponents now have to fear Hopkins’ power as well. In his last fight, Hopkins, who is currently ranked No. 2 by the IBF, scored a dominant 12-round decision over Rogelio Castaneda Jr. in November 2006.
Steve “2 Pounds” Forbes (32-4, 9 KOs) turned pro in 1996 and the Las Vegas resident stepped up in 2000, when he won the vacant IBF world lightweight title by defeating John Brown. He would defend the title once before losing it on the scales before a win over David Santos, and after tough title fight defeats to Carlos Hernandez and Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai, he moved up to 140 pounds. Since 2004, he has won eight of nine fights, with the only loss being a close 10-round split decision to the much bigger Grady Brewer in the finale of The Contender.
The Barrera vs. Marquez pay-per-view telecast kicks off at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, and has a suggested retail price of $44.95.
Tickets to Barrera vs Marquez are priced at $400, $300, $200, $100 and $50. Tickets are sold at any Mandalay Bay box office and all Las Vegas Ticketmaster locations (Smith’s Food and Drug Centers, Macy’ stores and Ritmo Latino). To charge by phone with a major credit card, call the Mandalay Bay box office at (702) 632-7580 or Ticketmaster at (702) 474-4000. Tickets also are available for purchase at www.mandalaybay.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

CC back guys .
Ive never known a poll be so close for any fight ever. Its really a pickem in most peoples eyes so Barrera stands to get alot of credit if he wins as does Marquez if he wins. Remember some people were picking Rocky vs Barrera and look how one sided that turned out to be

It is an intriguing fight and is indeed split down the middle to a tee. Bilbo made me a bit edgy in Wacko's thread! ;D
Some were picking Rocky to win but Juarez is not as good as Marquez by a long shot....
I cannot wait for this fight, its going to be quality!!! ;D

Thig is peoples reasons for picking against Marco is that the wars had caught up on him and based on the 1st fight he cant brawl anymore etc etc . How many times does he have to make fools out of people before they accept he isnt washed up . He was written off a decade ago against Jones and ever since he has been upsetting the odds. It would be a shock to me if he came a cropper against a guy like Marquez who has never won a big fight and has recently lost to a nobody Chris John .
Barrera stated the reasons he boxed vs Juarez . It wasnt cuz he is getting older but he clearly set out to win the fight with his left hand and he has accepted the fans didnt like it . In the 3rd Morales fight he turned the clock back when he needed to and he will do it here
-
Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
For me, one of the keys to this fight is that Marco has shown that he has that nasty edge to him when he needs it. Marquez, despite his spirited effort against Pac, can be tentative. Both are highly skilled boxers, but for me Marco is just so smart in the ring and is able to box or brawl. He always proves people wrong...and i have feeling he is going to put together another one of his memorable performances. Should be a fantastic fight.

Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Barrera's head is the size of a Jack O' Lantern. Easy target. I think the gourd-headed assassin gets dealt with.

I agree that Marco is not over the hill as some are suggesting, but you do seem to be dismissing Marquez somewhat casually. Barrera will need to be on fire to pull this off convincingly!!

One thing that could be in Marquez's favour is this is prolly the biggest fight of his career - and we seeng uys in this position before come on and put on a proformance they ar enot usualy capable of doing.

I dont think Barrera will win convincingly , as I said I expect scores of around 115-113 , 116-113, 116-112 so close but it if goes the otherway it would be controversial .
I'm not dismissing Marquez' chances completely but if we look at it factually . Who has he beaten ? I asked this question earlier and nobody was able to come up with anything . If he was proven at the highest level i'd give him a far better chance but he's never won a superfight so why start now

Fair comments. My only interjection is that the only major common opponent they have is Pac. We all know the stories surrounding those fights.
I think Marco can win, but Marquez is the best fighter he has faced in a while...

I agree that Marco is not over the hill as some are suggesting, but you do seem to be dismissing Marquez somewhat casually. Barrera will need to be on fire to pull this off convincingly!!
I dont think Barrera will win convincingly , as I said I expect scores of around 115-113 , 116-113, 116-112 so close but it if goes treh otherway it would be controversial .
I'm not dismissing Marquez' chances completely but if we look at it factually . Who has he beaten ? I asked this question earlier and nobody was able to come up with anything . If he was proven at the highest level i'd give him a far better chance but he's never won a superfight so why start now
I noticed jaxa was able to catch him and land some good blows in the rounds they fought, Barrera is a whole class above jaxa; im still not set on how barrera comes to fight this tho, is the "im going to go to war" a smoke screen to throw the JMM camp, or does he really mean it.
Marco has been around for so long now and been in the ring with so much class so many times that will be a massive plus for him, his main thing is to come into the fight in the ebst condition he can be in, and if he does that and is hungry i can only see one winner.

Fair comments. My only interjection is that the only major common opponent they have is Pac. We all know the stories surrounding those fights.
Theres Pedan aswel but weve gotta remember Pedan was so ill he was vomiting in the ring when he met Marquez . When he met Barrera he was an established world champ and he got dominated round after round

Majesty - Its da man Mikkel Kessler !

Regardless Barerra is going to dominate Marquez anyway
