Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
Mormeck may have won more rounds, maybe. But I that was just a fuked way to win a world title, I dunno care. It was fuked. Bell should have gotten credit for at least one 10-8 round late in the fight, Mormeck was just in survival mode. Then those bitches ring the bell about 20 seconds early. Fukin French!!!
PS Sal, I live in Northern California, so yes MSG airs outside NY. Although the fight was on FOXBA, a fox sports channel.
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
The fight was a good fight, Mormeck was almost out on his feet for the 10, 11 and 12th rouds. Bell just couldn't land a solid punch....
Pons vs. Canclaux, IMO stole the show what a fight that was they traded punches like mad men.....

I already CC'd you for it last night....and I'll hold my next one till karma allows. I was asleep on the sofa when this one was taking place, so I'd have the energy to stay awake for the Barrera-Marquez fight. WTG on the RBR.

Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
Maybe I'm alone here, but I didn't particularly enjoy this fight. I'm sure it was in large part due to the heat, but they both looked really sloppy for most of the fight. (like, every round past round 4)
I also didn't think it was particularly close and I don't for a second understand how Bell can think he was robbed and say (he really did say this) that he felt he won "every round of the fight." I thought he won 4 at most. He couldn't land a punch to save his life in there.
Also--while I was happy to have someone air the fight on TV--that was the worst commentating I've ever seen. The one guy had about 3 things to say ("he's completely exhausted, will he be able to get through the round?"; "Now he's getting a second wind"; "it looks like he's playing possum, but he may be really tired...I think he's playing a little possum"), which he kept repeating at various intervals when they were clearly wrong. And then that French guy just interjecting with total nonsense once or twice a round. And what was up with that terrible diagonal camera angle? Really made me appreciate HBO and Showtime. Even ESPN.
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
Haven't seen the fight but I will say this.....YEAH MORMECK! Hope to see it tomorrow.
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
That was certainly one of the oddest fights I think I've ever witnessed. By the second half of the fight they both seemed to be reeling around the ring like a couple o' drunks! I mean I know it was St. Paddy's day n' all, but they looked like someone who'd had more than their fair share of guiness. Fair play to 'em though for going the full 12 rounds, I honestly thought one of them would drop from exhaustion way before then. What made it really bizarre for me was Bell's antics of pretending to be knackered and then trying to come on strong, problem was he really was gassed, just not quite as badly as he made out. Entertaining fight!

DONT DISS BIG FAT COL. BOB SHERIDAN!!!!!!!!! ;D
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
yea, for real
sheridan is the man >:mad
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
Bob Sheridan just might be the worst commentator ever. Especially if you watched the fight prior to Bell & Mormeck, Pons v. Conclaux. I have never heard a commentator praise a promoter for the fight card he put together, but Sheridan did it. And like a previous poster said, he repeated the same things over and over. The other thing I'd like to add was that Sheridan tended to have much more excitement in his voice than the action in the ring dictated. Bell would land a glancing blow or something and Sheridan started screaming like he'd been sent careening into the turnbuckle.
How can a venue hosting a major fight not be air-conditioned? The fight probably could have been a lot better and perhaps faired better for Bell had it not been sweltering. But the problem with that is neither fighter seemed to be sweating throughout the bout. I wonder if there was also a conditioning issue involved.
Bell seemed... perturbed before the opening bell. I wonder how much of it had to do with the issue in his training camp, I wonder if he was concerned with rematching Mormeck. Bell's chin was either iron or Mormeck doesn't have the kind of power he looks like he does.
At least the stage is set for the rubbermatch. And no more with France. Both fights had early rung bells and/or timeclock issues with FSN (I suspect it's the former). It doesn't have to be in America if Mormeck has issues, I'm sure Great Britain would love to host as well as Australia.
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
a perfect example of open scoring killing the momentum of a fight. had Mormeck not know he was up 4 rounds, the action would have stayed high end. instead Mormeck turned and ran the remainder of the match , you can't blame him, but shit, NO MORE OPEN SCORING !

I don't know--it's not like those rounds were close. I don't think there would have been any question that he could sit on his ass the last couple rounds even without open scoring. Bell just didn't do anything. I'd like to see the punchstats, because it seemed like Mormeck outlanded Bell about 4-1 over the first 8 or 9 rounds.

That's not the fault of open scoring, that's the fault of the high temperature in the ring, Mormeck's conditioning and Bell's lack of ability to close the deal. The fight could have gone the same way as it did without open scoring and Mormeck would have ran just as much. He had nothing left and if he'd risked too much he might have gotten knocked down. Don't buy into the demonization of open scoring, 9 times out of 10 it's not going to change a fighter's plan.
Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
And if anything, the open scoring added to the drama by making it all the more clear to Bell that he needed to get off his tired ass and throw bombs (granted they were all about 5x too slow to have any chance of landing).

Re: RBR Bell vs Mormeck 2
The drama in boxing is not knowing for sure where you are on the cards . Keeps both fighters in the mindset of maintaining good solid production (work rate) regardless of what they and their corners may think. , the thought of a clumsy judge keeps you looking for offensive opportunities thru the course of a match , when a fighter knows that he is way up in the match by telling him the total on the cards , especially in close rounds , rounds in which he would not have otherwise known he won. allows him to simply skate thru the last part of a match taking the determinationout of the combatant and , leaving the other guy plain frustrated. also leaving the crowd with a potentially boring match for the last few rounds. . Surviving is too easy in boxing , when it’s your only goal.
Trust me , that match would have ended in a knockout had there not been open scoring. You can bank on that ! O0

I really don't follow this. Surely having Bell (the KO puncher of the two) know that he absolutely needed a KO (or at least 2 knockdowns) in the last 4 rounds to win the fight made a KO far more likely than it otherwise would have been. The problem was that with the heat, Bell had no energy whatsoever (to go along with his utter lack of speed).

Well I see the problem being that Mormeck knew for sure he was up and turned and ran thereafter . rather then stay and fight like he did before he knew the results . . , I don't like it.. It was still a great match don't get me wrong ! It just could have been better , that’s all I am saying. those early rounds were Mormeck rounds, but they were bother infighting and making a live go at it. even though it would appeared that Mormeck was up on the cards , he and his corner did not know 100% for sure until theywere told so . For me I like the suspense of not knowing until the end of a match who won the fight . I like that better from a fighter point of view as well as a spectator No open scoring keeps the offense going from both combatants until the final bell.
as for the part about Bell needing a knockout to win, you right, but he didn’t have anyone to knockout cause Mormeck would turn and run away.. that my point.. Mormeck went into survival mode. and when a fighter goes into survival mode its very hard to knock them out, ask any fighter this and they we tell you.. It's because they take very little if any chances, they just stay in a shell and work defense. you need a guy to open up and take some chances in order to knock them out. can't blame Mormeck, I am a huge fan. but the system in play sucks
