So he couldnt floor Barrera and Barrera floored him . Barreras jab did all the facial damage . Marquez wasnt warned about his low blows . How can you justify that insane judging given that Barrera threw and landed more .
Because he won most of the rounds with clean effective punching. It's simple. It's boxing.

I think people just want the cards to be closer to make the fight seem more dramatic. It's not necessary. It was a great fight.
And I thought Penalosa won 4 or 5 rounds.
punchstats says different
No they don't. Marquez landed something like 50 more power punches than MAB even tho MAB landed more punches overall. Outpunching someone doesn't mean landing more punches, it means landing the harder, cleaner punches, which Marquez did in 8 or 9 rounds.
for someone landing more powershots barreras face surely didnt look it marquez face looked like he had been hit with brick and if barrera would of been credited with knockdown he would of won fight on my card hbo had barrera up 1 if i remember right i dont know how you have marquez 7 points up
Yeah Winky Wright can outpunch people with his jab let alone and just because they land more power punches on him doesn't mean they out punch him. Barerra's jab was key in the early rounds and its things Pernell Whitaker made a career out of.
Winky lands lots of jabs and takes few punches clean from his opponent. Winky lands the cleaner more effective punches. MAB didn't.
You're bringing up Wright and Whitaker as if they lost to JMM last night.
them power punch stats can be mis leading remember that marquez had massive round 7 where he battered barrera and another massive round where he outlanded barrera by 10 power punches
how many power punches did he outland barrera overall

agreed but there not normally out by 7 rounds ..
no im not basing it on there face or ledermans scoring but im just saying its nothing to do with drama like you said in other thread it was close fight that could of gone either way i dont know how you had marquez up 7 rounds up even biggest marquez fans on here only had him winning by 1 round 2 at the most
What rounds did you give to MAB? I know you somehow gave him the first 3 so how did you score it 4-12?
I don't think most people actually score fights. They just keep track of KD's and expect the scores to be consistent with the "feel" of the fight. Sometimes there are fights like these where the action is always close and back-and-forth but one fighter has a consistent edge. This results in seemingly unfounded lop-sided scoring.

4-12? Were there 16 rounds ???

Re: Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!
I couldn't agree with you more Terp i saw the fight the same way yeah the rounds were pretty close but i saw Marquez pull the slight edge in those close round. that doesn't mean that the fight wasn't close but Marquez won most of the rounds which kinda justifies the scoring. There is no difference if you win 7 really close rounds or 7 shutout rounds you still won them right????

I gave Marquez at least one of the first 3. Maybe 2. There's no way MAB made a clean sweep of the first 3 rounds. He kept the exchanges to a minimum but he was getting the worst of the exchanges even then.
Yup. I scored the first 3 rounds 2-1 for Barrera. Of course the argument could be made that there were an abundance of swing rounds that were left to the deficient interpretive skills of the Haldol patients on a day pass from a psychiatric facility that they had the nerve to call 'judges'. ::**

Re: Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!
Marquez beat Barrera...it was a great fight...deal.
So Marquez's face was swollen & that is grounds that Barrera won?
Holy shit.
The judges were retarded with the margins...I'll give you that...but Barrera was frustrated by Marquez & Marquez backed Barrera up with some wicked combos while Barrera fired that jab off all night.
It was a great fight & the better man won. Whether your'e a fan of either man...a fan of boxing should be able to admit atleast that. ::**

I knew something was awry when Hopkins won by a lopsided decision against a very game Forbes. To top it off, officials at the Nevada State Athletic Commission were haplessly perusing the crack dens of Vegas to find 'judges' that would score the main event.
Hats off to both Barrera and Marquez for a thrilling bout on such a woefully dreadful card. Shame on the sport of sports for continually living up to its corrupt reputation, and in this case, exceeding its tar and feather image by putting incompetent, and possibly over-drugged, delusional simps at ringside to score the bout.
I would have even been satisfied with a draw or a 1 point discrepancy going either way to each fighter. Although I thought Barrera clearly won the fight, I could have swallowed a split decision going to Marquez.
Fact of the matter is this: Boxing has become a joke. With such grave injustices as decisions and scores such as this, we can only hope that fighters risk more, take additional chances and ultimately take any decisive factors away from 'judges' by going for broke, throwing caution to the wind, and fighting purely for the KO.
I'm sickened by such scandalous ineptitude and flagrant corruption, and my stomach is soured by what has happened tonight.
Manny, in his post-fight closing remarks, summarized this disgrace without pulling any punches. Lampley, the consummate diplomat and spinmeister that he is, attempted to reason the merits of such an unreasonable decision.
Champions like Barrera are made inside of the ring; champions like Barrera are rare commodities to the sport. It's disgusting and disgraceful to see one such man that has given so much to the sport and to his adoring fans be shafted in such a blatantly and outlandish way. The sport of boxing loves its heroes, but it's a disgusting testament to the wicked side of human nature when we so callously tear them down...Pathetic is a term that comes to mind. But that would be a gross understatement. ::** ::** :'(
CC. Great post. This is the first fight I've seen that could have been helped by open scoring. That way MAB would have at least known he had to actually knock the guy out who he appeared to be beating (or neck and neck with, honestly). Instant replay too, obviously.

Re: Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!
Also--I haven't seen it mentioned here, but JMM made a "WTF" face when Michael Buffer started reading the scores (i.e., when the numbers were announced, but prior to saying who won).

Barrera landed about 7 more total punches and around 40 less power punches. How does that back up your claim that MAB won or landed the cleaner punches? You point out that Marquez misses alot yet punch-stats have him landing at a higher % than MAB.
If MAB won it would've been with the jab and ring generalship. Marquez was clearly the harder, sharper, more effective power-puncher.

Can't find the compubox analysis anywhere on the web. However, I do remember that Barrera had the edge in the numbers. Barrera's punches were cleaner and more effective as evidenced by JMM's face at the end of the fight. I'm not taking anything away from Marquez; he's an amazing boxer and I take my hat off to him.
However, did he do enough to dethrone Barrera? I think not. Barrera effectively blocked many of the punches that Marquez threw. My only gripe with Barrera's performance was that he wasn't as sharp with his counter punching as I would have liked and he didn't establish a dominate jab early on in the bout.
Both fighters were tactically flawed throughout portions of the bout, but that's what makes the sport so interesting.
No if, and or buts about it, Barrera got screwed by the decision. If and when there is a rematch, it better not be in Vegas, and an independent commission must be put together to monitor officials at ringside for gross improprieties such as those evidenced by the farcical scores last night.

I heartily disagree. The main argument Barrera supporters seem to have is that he landed about 6 or 7 more punches over the course of 12 rounds and "look at Marquez's face!". The second argument isn't really something I'd expect to hear from knowledgable boxing fans. A sharp jab here and there can bust open an opponents face.
You say you would've scored it a draw? What rounds did you give to MAB? Did you actually score the fight or did it just "feel" like a close fight?

I agree. Marquez was giving the harder and clearer punches.Barrera is too dirty to box Marquez even if the latter was still down. Barrera deserves the loss and the score for being a dirty fighter. This is one thing many boxing fans of Barrera do not see in their fighter. This is the reason I admire Morales. The guy is clean and fights fairly.
I have seen this attitude of Barrera during the Barrera-PAcquaio match. When Barrera feels that he is going to lose the fight he fights dirty. You can watch again the Barrera-Pacquaio fight and you will agree with me.

O.K. I'll throw out the compubox factor and I'll even throw out the swelling issue on Marquez's face. Everyone has different dermal makeup and different bone structure which plays a huge role in how they respond to landed punches.
I never said that I would've scored the fight a draw...at least not to my recollection. I did say that I could have walked away from the fight a bit easier if it would have been scored a draw. It's a slippery road into a dark hole when you try to score these fights. My card was similar to Ledermann's, but I had Barrera taking the 12th round and winning by a score of 115-113. Honestly, I think that's a fair score.
Since your on the topic of Barrera proponents making silly arguments, I'd love to hear your reasoning behind how you can justify a win for Marquez. If you had the fight going to Marquez by 1 or 2 rounds, it would be an exercise in futility to disagree with you unless we were both in the same room with scorecards and arguing the merits of our scoring after each round.
I like Marquez alot. He showed me what he had when he came back from what I thought was going to be an early night against Pacquiao. He's a crafty and highly skilled SMART boxer. I just don't think he done enough to get the nod. But I must admit that the most contentious rounds could have gone either way.

Barrera blocked a lot of the shots. Yes, Barrera was on queer street several times throughout the fight, but so was Marquez. It was a very entertaining fight, but I think the best is yet to come. I saw a lot more leg buckling blows landed by Barrera than by Marquez. It's interesting food for thought, though. I'm going to watch the fight again and re-score it. I just don't think it will change my mind about the ultimate outcome. But I'm certainly up for another more objective viewing.

How did Marquez win? By landing the harder more effective punches in 8 or 9 rounds. He won by more than 1 or 2 rounds. I had it 8-4, 116-111 with the deduction. I could see 9-3 for Marquez before I saw 7-5 or a draw.

9-3 for Marquez??!! That's absolutely insane. I don't think that we watched the same fight. How long have you been watching boxing, Terp? Review the fight as I will and give me a second opinion. How did Marquez land "the harder more effective punches in 8 or 9 rounds" when he was wobbled on several occasions? Your analysis
just doesn't make any sense.

Re: Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!
9-3 for Marquez?!!!!!!!!! We must have been watching two completely different fights. Barrera deserved a draw at the VERY LEAST. And i have to agree with Shadow...except for the shaky 7th (before Marco KNOCKED HIM DOWN)...Barrera was landing harder punches...even his jab was busting up Marquez's face. Don't get me wrong...it was a hella of a fight and very close...and i have tremendous respect for Marquez. But both the judges and the referee shafted Marco.

Re: Barrera vs. Marquez - Disgrace!!!
i've only just seen the fight and definately dont think the fight should have been scored for marquez by that margin. but i think he was bossing the fight a bit more than barrera. and jay nady is a tosser. the knock down was genuine and jay nady should have been quick enough on the case to send barrera to a nuteral corner as soon as JMM went down. it was bulshit, barerra should have received a warning and the round should have been scored 10-8 to barrera.

Am i the only one who didn't think it was a great fight? It was a good fight but there wasn't so much action until the last 10 seconds of every round. It was an interesting and fight and it was very entertaining during the last 10 seconds of the rounds but overall i think it was just a good fight. I think Marquez just about did enough but the judges scores were very stupid. Jay Nady shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a boxing ring. If he can't spot a knockdown, how can he possibly spot when a fighter is badly hurt?

I agree with you that people seem to be overrating this fight. Don't get me wrong, this was a very very good fight between two incredibly skilled and tough fighters. Anyone who bought a ticket or ordered the PPV got their money's worth.
It will be a candidate for fight of the year, but it's definitely not one of the best fights ever.
Just among the featherweights this decade, I thought all of the following fights were better:
Morales-Barrera I
Morales-Barrera III
Marquez-Pacquiao
Morales- Pacquiao I

Barrera landed about 7 more total punches and around 40 less power punches. How does that back up your claim that MAB won or landed the cleaner punches? You point out that Marquez misses alot yet punch-stats have him landing at a higher % than MAB.
If MAB won it would've been with the jab and ring generalship. Marquez was clearly the harder, sharper, more effective power-puncher.
why are you saying about 40 more power punches that marquez landed i explained this to you yesterday here ill copy and paste what i said
40 more power punches are mis leading and you know why ?? because marquez had two massive rounds in 7th he battered barrera and must of outlanded barrera by close to 30 power punches in that round then in another round he outlanded barrera by 10 power punches thats why thats misleading stat

Holy S***.
The judges were retarded with the margins...I'll give you that...but Barrera was frustrated by Marquez & Marquez backed Barrera up with some wicked combos while Barrera fired that jab off all night.

disagree with that if i think mab deserved draw then why would i say marquez is the better man that would mean i would ignore my scores and just say marquez is better man anyway sorry wacko but i disagree
I agree with you icecold CC . Respected experts believe like I did that Barrera won the fight so just cuz our opinion clashes with Wackos doesnt mean we should admit Marquez is the better man cuz clearly from what we saw he wasnt .

Call it whatever you want-- "wince," "WTF expression"; characterize it however you want--"pained," surprised, disappointed, whatever. But the point is that he had a negative reaction--he didn't smile and start clapping or look relieved. I'm not saying he thought he lost the fight; I'm just saying he didn't think he won the fight by 7 points. So far, there seems to be exactly one person (other than that judge) who claims not to be surprised by that score (that would be this newbie/ new sign-on for existing member, "Terp").

Well, I'm calling it what you called it you said it was WTF? expression and I don't see how you come up with that conclusion unless your a 'face expression' expert.... Well the second they announce 'And the new WBC....' he couldn't have clapped cause they were still taking off the right hand glove off his hand..... He did smile and raised his left hand if thats suffcient enough of a celebration for you to determine he thinks he won.....
Terp is not the only one who thinks JMM was a pretty clear victor I also think he won the fight convingcingly....... Also Lords Gym (In the rd. by rd. thread) posted his scorecard here it is.... I'm watching the fight again tonight and posting my scorecard.......

This is pointless if you're just going to spout off without reading my post. I don't know why you're so angry about this. The point is very simple and non-controversial: when they announced the first, super-wide score, JMM made a negative facial expression, not a positive one. You yourself called it a "wince" (actually, I believe you called it a "winse," but I'm assuming you weren't trying to coin a new word)--though maybe we should discount your analysis there, since I'm assuming you're not a "face expression expert."
The fact that he smiled and raised his hand after they announced he won the fight is neither here nor there. As I explicitly stated in my post (which you apparently didn't read, so I'll quote it for you), "I'm not saying he thought he lost the fight; I'm just saying he didn't think he won the fight by 7 points."
Really, I was just pointing out something I saw and that I thought was interesting. I didn't come in here saying "this proves Barrera won by 10 rounds" or anything crazy. But the fact you're getting so defensive and irate about something so small and seemingly secondary really speaks volumes.

Angry? :( Me.....
Nah!! I'm the usually the peace keeper here, we are debating a fight here. You made a comment that JMM made an expression WTF? as if even he didn't believe he wont by that large of a margin. I said the expression you pointed out wasn't a WTF? expression..... How does that make me angry?
That is all......
You made a comment on your post, I responded to it and thats that. After all that is what this forum is for right? Discussion.... I disagreed with something you posted and nothing more....
So that I don't get angrier and run-a-muck here at work I'll drop the subject here....
CC#165 for the discussion......
