Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
i'm with majesty and gp100 morales can win this fight.
yea casamayor is the champion in that division but his an old fighter too, if there was a pacman in that division casamayor wouldn't be champ he'd get retired or look shot if there was a pacman in that division.
morales fought and lost to the best in 130 twice, and he got some shots hard shots in before accepting defeat.
he lost to raheem whom is a better fighter then diaz. but if their was ever a unfocus shot morales it was in that fight.
pacman defeated a great morales, raheem beat a morales whom throughout his career lower his level to his oppenents level. if you really followed morales career you'd know how much he'd always lower his level down to his oppenent but gets up for huge fights like pacman. if morales would of had in mind he was going in to fight pac when he fought raheem, he would of knock out raheem.
its bullshyt to say morales has taken so much beating throughout his career, i read a few post back about if you follow his career you'd see that, nope its about morales mistake of lowering his level down to his oppenents level.
hopefully morales fights at his highest level no underestimating and he'd be fine for the rest of his career.

how is it BS? Morales has been in more wars than any other active fighter. If you don't think that Morales has absorbed a ton of punishment over the years, then I don't know what to tell you, because obviously you haven't been watching the fights.
He has been part of two of the most violent trilogies in the history of the sport. Just those 6 fights alone represent more punishment than most fighters take in their entire careers. And that's not even mentioning other tough fights he's been in, like against Injin Chi, Zaragosa (sp?), the first Espadas fight, etc.

yea same old bullshyt, his great when he wins, but that was a very close fight with alot of muhammed bullshyt written all over it.
morales was great in the second and in the third, its so foolish when fans say a fighter isn't great when he loses a great fight. come on you have to admit those fight was exciting why? because both fighters where great. yes morales was great in the second he box well got caught huge in the second round but recovered and fought like the great fighter he is,then by the 6th round pac took over and just kept pounding on the legendary el terrible. the thing is that pacman was just much greater in the later rounds. and in the third yes morales was great in that fight too, he landed huge but the pacman just proved how much greater he keeps rapidly getting.
it took a great morales to win the close decision against pac in the first war, and it took a great morales to last 10 rounds with pac in the second fight, and it took a great morales to last the second round in the third fight with pacman. pac broke his iron chin and he knew pac wasn't the type to slow down so he accepted defeat, which is a wise decision. but is there a pacman in diaz? fwooooccckkkkk nooooooooo

Look at that quote. Please tell me you aren't serious. Sorry but a great Morales last way more then 3 rounds with Manny. Manny is really good but what you're saying is ridiculous. Just wanted to isolate that quote....

It has nothing to do with Erik lowering himself to no level....
So when Erik fought MAB, Erik lowered himself to MABs level ???

Erik didn't and wouldn't beat Zahir because Zahir is everything Erik isn't, Zahir was on a bike never stood in front for more then let's say 6-10 seconds move around and at no point did he decide to trade....
Morales has always been a straight forward fighter the 1st time you ever saw Erik fight on the back foot or going back was when he fought MAB for the 1st time.....

Well Mick , I can appreciate your concern , but this is who Eric is , the profession he choose. I think a loss to Pacman is nothing to be ashamed of, Eric struggled making weight for that match and it showed. He looked weak.. Still gave a good effort in that match reguardless .I am not ready to write him off just yet. Lets see what happens in this next match, at a higher weight and go from there. I think he will be alright .. O0

Spot on about the profession he chose, thats just who hes is but for MY personal taste this has sour grapes written allover it....
Like I said who knows he might beat Diaz (if they meet) but then what?
I would hope retire with a victory BUT you really think Erik will retire? Hell no...
Hell keep fighting 'till when? Hes really hurt....
And thats what I would hate to see.....

Its hard to stop doing what you love. its a passion that runs deep. can't explain it. you want to go out on you own terms, on your shield if need be.

Exactly.
No great fighters ever retire when they're on top (or coming off a win). They don't retire until they suffer a really bad defeat that convinces them once and for all that they need to quit.
I thought the last fight was the one that convinced Morales he was done. He shook his head No and took the 10 count, then in the Merchant interview he gave a farewell speech, he seemed to realize it was time to go.
If he comes back, he's not going to get thru it without taking another beating, because he won't retire until he takes another beating.
I'd rather see him end his career in front of a sold-out crowd in Vegas against one of the best fighters in the world (like the Pacquiao fight), instead of ending it as an old man getting beat up by some guy who he would've destroyed in his prime.

Fair enough. That's his choice and a respectful one. But it's my choice to feel uneasy about the whole thing. And he wouldn't be going after a title holder if he was planning on quitting.

wow eric knew nothing but to trade and stand toe to toe??? yea i stop reading after that, yea your no fan of eric thats why your like this.
actually eric has always been the most gifted out of him and mab, believe me he knew more then just to trade and stand toe to toe. thats the dumbest shyt i've heard about eric.
if you've known eric for the longest you'll know how much he has lowered his level to his oppenents level time after time.
ask those who has really followed erics career they will tell you that and even more.
as for me i saw the best from morales in the trilogy against pac, because he had no anger against pac that got him out of control and unfocus and made to look like a bad guy. he fought like a great in victory and in defeat. unlike the trilogy with mab, morales fought on fuel of fruastration he had for mab. it was the anger for mab that got morales going toe to toe with him, he didn't use his boxing skills much. but against pac it was pacs sheer brutal pressure not anger that got morales having to trade and abonden his boxing skills.
i'll always rate those three like this.
morales best boxer and most skilled out of them three.
barrera smartest and toughest asshole out of them three.
but pac whoops them both because of pacs brutal force.

as a fan of both i'd sell everything i own just to have ring side seats to prime vs prime em and pac. hehehe

barrera smartest and toughest asshole out of them three.
but pac whoops them both because of pacs brutal force.
 :lolhaha: Please, take a very very long honeymoon. You will not be missed.
In his last honeymoon he MUST have visit "The Nile" River for sure, if you know what I mean..... ;)

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I've been a big fan of Morales career, but I think it is time for him to retire. During the after fight interview in the ring of Pac-Morales III, Morales made some very emotional statements in Spanish that were horribly translated to English. You could see in Morales words that he was convinced that it was time to retire after all the battles that he gave us... But unfortunately all the message was lost thanks to the bad translation.
I hope he keeps in retirement, and may be help young fighters to grow in the Sweet Science.

Hey PRP... how's it going? Yeah, I remember the same thing. Unfortunately, the translations in boxing leave a lot to be desired. And yeah... Erik's been in a LOT of boxing wars, and looks the worse for the wear. IMO, he'd better hang up the gloves before he gets permanently hurt.

Hey my friend, finally we are meeting at the forum more frequently, although I'm not coming that frequent. I agree it wil be sad to see a fighter like him (or any other fighter) permanetly hurt, specially to make others happy $$$$.

Yeah, I'm trying to get on the forum a little more often now, after a long period of relative inactivity. Good to see you, tho. Anyway, although I gotta give Morales his dues (he's been a true warrior), I've always been more a fan of Barrera than Morales. But Morales has given a lot to boxing and should retire before he gets seriously hurt.

Better for Morales to face Diaz as oppose to Casamayor

yea casamayor is the champion in that division but his an old fighter too, if there was a pacman in that division casamayor wouldn't be champ he'd get retired or look shot if there was a pacman in that division.
morales fought and lost to the best in 130 twice, and he got some shots hard shots in before accepting defeat.
he lost to raheem whom is a better fighter then diaz. but if their was ever a unfocus shot morales it was in that fight.
pacman defeated a great morales, raheem beat a morales whom throughout his career lower his level to his oppenents level. if you really followed morales career you'd know how much he'd always lower his level down to his oppenent but gets up for huge fights like pacman. if morales would of had in mind he was going in to fight pac when he fought raheem, he would of knock out raheem.
its bullshyt to say morales has taken so much beating throughout his career, i read a few post back about if you follow his career you'd see that, nope its about morales mistake of lowering his level down to his oppenents level.
hopefully morales fights at his highest level no underestimating and he'd be fine for the rest of his career.
Casamayor would destroy Pac. Pac knows it. Freddy Roach knows it. Bob Arum knows it. And I bet you even your dumb ass knows it.

Some of these Pac groupies are actually stupid enough to think other wise.

I think I would favor Pacman,, especially at Super Featherweight.

If this is at Lightweight he'll do fine! I'm telling you...
agree. erik ain't done yet. that's what i've been saying for the longest time. erik is just done fighting at super feather. he'll be fine at lightweight so long as he focus and trains hard for this fight.

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Diaz is an accomplished fighter with a great amature career. He will end Erik's career once and for all by beating him like rug. Pity. :'( :'(

Re: ~Erik Morales vs. David Diaz on July 15th~ NOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Good for Morales, I hope Morales wins. But I'm worried that if he wins he won't do the right thing and retire, I'm afraid he'll keep fighting and then end up as a stepping stone to a prospect who he would have wiped out in the past :(

Erik Morales-David Diaz officially set for August 4 in Chicago
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/33997...fite13.article
Is this news? I hadn't heard about it, I'd heard they were thinking about it but didn't know it was official and was set to definitely happen.
Diaz is mediocre as hell but I still don't get this, Morales has taken way too many punches.
-
Re: Erik Morales-David Diaz officially set for August 4 in Chicago
Yeah, this is one that just perplexes me kind of like Clottey - Corrales.
Diaz is mediocre but he gets better as the fight goes along and Morales is fading in a matter of rounds now. I would be surprised if Morales won, and even if he did it's not like it's some great victory for him, just a victory over a mediocre lightweight. He'll get a belt but that'll just push him to unify.

Re: Erik Morales-David Diaz officially set for August 4 in Chicago
I wish Morales good luck for this, Ive always enjoyed watching him and always had a lot of respect for him but surely its about time for him to call it a day. Maybe he just wants to go out on a win and I hope he does.
