Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
this article is bulls#!t ??? jones said he would be prepared to fight in the U.K as he is the challege and must go wherever the belt is.. however ALL he said about money, is that "The promoters might get in the way of the fight, but there's no reason we can't come to an agreement. If we can't agree terms, I say give 60% to the winner and 40% to the loser. That's fair, so let's go."
dont report information inaccurately.. it wastes everyones time, because they comment "wow, Jones must really want the fight" and how weird it is for Roy to take less money etc., when he's probably asking for 50/50 and if he cant get that , then offering 60/40 to the winner (with his ego assuming he'll win)

RJJ with poor reaction time + JC's handspeed and footwork = JC mid-round TKO.
stronger odds on this fight never coming off though.
When was the last time Joe had a legitimate KO???   Roy will not respect Calzaghe's power and will engage him and put a hurtin on him.... I'm tellin you, I'm tellin you!!!!!!
He dosent need to be PFP best to beat Calzaghe
I'm not saying he's gonna KO him, he's gonna TKO him, volume punches.   PLUS the ref will prolly waive it off early.
I know what you mean Roy is still an elusive target... those slapping flurries wont do anything Roy has more than enough power to get Joes attention and snuff any Flurry he tries to dig in on
Jones fought harder punchers than Tarver and Johnson throughout his career, the problem was he was shot enough for those guys to hit him and shot enough for the punches to have maximum effect.
And you're underestimating Calzaghe's punch power.
I'll concede it doesn't look like he punches as hard as he used to (his left hand is finished, that's obvious), but you can't say he didn't hurt Lacy in their fight. Now I wouldn't expect him to hit Old Roy as much as he did Lacy... but he wouldn't need too. ;)
Seems to me we are at a halt here.... I'll leave you with one tangible and one thought in closing about Roy... He has battled thru adversity, been to the top of the mountain and fell off it hard and he still picked himself up.. people over due those to KO's they were picture perfect punches Tarvers was a 1 in a million and Johnson dug in and got him behind the ear and it was more of Roys head bouncing 2x off the Mat that concussed him..
Roy has heart and Roy is hungry, very hungry to prove himself once again  ;)  I will concede to you Fenster that we will have to respectfully agree to disagree on this one... as ususal enjoy the intelligent debate with you :coolclick: #294

One thing's for sure, all the talking in the world don't change the fact that until the fighters actually fight you never know what will happen. The beauty of boxing.

Back in the day RJJ would take Calzaghe to school and back, but he is going to get a big beat down look at how gun shy he is these days, Calzaghe should take this fight if nothing better is available he will beat RJJ easily at this point imo.

I don't think on world level Calzaghe hits that hard i don't think he would ko Jones

Even at 38 Roy Jones is still better than anyone Calzaghe has met

Tarver couldnt knock out Roy twice, we all saw the round he had him so stunned and Roy was hurt but he didn't go down and he survived to come back against Tarver in that round too.
And he didn't look gunshy against Badi Ajamu, he fought a smart fight for someone his age with not as quick reflexes. Roy seems to be changing his style just a little bit.
But if for a moment you think Joe is going to beat him consider this.
Joe doesn't have the height, reach or power of Antonio Tarver at Light Heavyweight.
Joe doesn't have the heart or chin of Glen Johnson at Light Heavyweight.
Joe is a supper Middleweight and won't be bullying Roy around the ring.
You talk about Joe getting dropped by the likes of Tarver and then Johnson. But what about Joe getting dropped by Mitchell and Salem ??? And an old weight drained Eubank(not nearly as fast as Jones at that stage of his career) almost got him in the last round(from what I've read).
Roy is faster then anyone Joe has faced, his harder then anyone Joe has faced and is more elusive then anyone Joe has faced even at this stage of his career. Not to mention Jones is bigger.
Joe is going to get hit more then any other time in his career. I just hope the fight is at some sort of catch weight. Jones barelt made 175 his last time out, I can't see him making 168. 172 or 170 maybe.

Exactly! C.C. But if would put a P4P all time great on Calzaghe's resume. Maybe Jones has one good fight left in him and maybe that's too much risk for Joe?
Warren should double the Taylor offer and take a piece of that action.

I'd definately go for the catchweight idea 172 sounds good (about half way between Super Middle and Light Heavy)
Jones isn't really bigger though, their reaches are almost the same and is slightly shorter than Calzaghe. Let's be realistic though
IF Joe was to go through with this fight they would almost definately have the title on the line. At 168 the weight drain affects Jones more.
Joe throws Flurries and is back outside before he get countered. As was mentioned earlier even 5 years ago this would have been more interesting.

If Roy wants to get knocked out then he should fight Calzaghe. If he wants to keep his career going he needs to fight the Prince Badi Ajamu's of the world.

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
In hindsight, I think I may have been stoned when I replied to this post. ::** It's ridiculous for Jones to COMPLETELY price himself out of a potential match-up with Calzaghe. Why isn't Jones chasing Hopkins? If he really wants to fight, that would be the fight to make. Surely, there would be a ton of money involved, and I think Hopkins would go easy on him for the first 15 or 20 seconds of the bout.

You may have been stoned when you posted that.
Like Roy is going to WAIT to see if Hopkins beats Wright.
Whats wrong with Roy saying he would go overseas and fight Joe with Calzaghe getting the biggest of the post.
Thats what everyone been saying about Jones in england and overseas
"He wont come over here" and "he prices himself out" But when he finally does it you say "why doesn'e he fight Hopkins"
How about this
Why doesnt' Calzaghe fight Kessler, Mundine, EVEN BERRIO!!!
People say Roy needs to fight the Badi Ajamus of the world well I guess you see nothing wrong with Calzaghe fighting the Bika's and the Manfredo's of the world ??? So you are going to justify Joe NOT fighting Roy when Roy is doing the things you always complained he didnt? Damned if you do, damned if you dont ::**

i think calzaghe should take it. this fight is for jones. he think that if he fights and beats joe then that will get him back on p4p which it will.
him beating joe would be huge for him and i would love that to happen, jones does deserve it.

When he finally does what? Stipulate a 60/40 purse split with Calzaghe? Why? It doesn't make any sense. ??? You're jumping the gun a bit by attempting to infer that I don't have some serious issues with Calzaghe and Warren. You can find many a post of mine that calls into question this parade of bums that Calzaghe has been fighting - Peter Manfredo Jr. ;D C'mon, it doesn't get any more ridiculous than that, Starr. :P
Yes, Jones would be a Quantum Leap up in class from the Manfredo's of the world. But Bika was a legit contender that was giving Beyer all he could handle, and prior to that, Calzaghe had the Lacy fight. But I'm sure that you're aware of all of this already.
Let me ask you this, though:
Don't you think it's a bit premature for Roy to be making these types of purse demands? Given, if Calzaghe has the true grit of a champion, he would jump on the opportunity to fight one of the greatest to ever strap on gloves. But Jones is really putting Calzaghe's back against the wall? Certainly not the way Hopkins did to Jones prior to the 2nd Tarver bout, and we all know that Hopkins vs. Jones 2 never materialized.
It may be a case of damned if you do damned if you don't with certain people when it comes to Jones, I just don't fall into that category. For a man with a legacy as rich as Roy's in the sport, I would think it best to get a good arbitrator and go into serious negotiations prior to making demands. Let's face it: Jones isn't holding the title, and I think I'm solid ground historically by saying that the ultimate leverage goes to the champ. Roy knows this all too well. ;D
However, I may change my mind after posting this as the Lysergic Acid kicked in about 40 minutes ago. ;)
Good points, BTW. :coolclick:

Totally agree. While I do believe that Jones looked good after the first 3-4 rounds with Prince Abugabi (or WTF ever his name was) but Prince aint Calzaghe & no matter what anyone has to say...Calzaghe would get up majorly for a fight against Jones.
While Roy's reflexes have seemingly gone by by...Joe's have not.
In the past I have stated that I would never wish to see Jones fight in the ring again...now...I'd be thrilled to see Roy leave the U.S. for a fight against Calzaghe. Roy's become a bit of a gotdam tool, IWO, of late & I have begun to lose respect for him by the barrell loads. All this horse shit of him saying this & doing that is fwockin aggrevating to someone that tries to remain a loyal fan of the man.
that fight (laugh all you want) would generate PPV buys on HBO & the gate across the pond would probably be staggering.

If he's smart...he won't fwock with Hopkins...but the tagline & promo for that fight would be glorious.
He'd be out to beat the one man that legitimately beat him...twice.
For some reason...Jones has conviniently forgotten the KO loss to Johnson...atleast in front of the flashbulbs & inkpins.

Loyal fan? Who are you trying to kid Wacko?! Ya predicted Ajamu to knock him out. And for the record, Roy looked good the whole fight and had Ajamu ready to quit, but fat ass with pipe(McGirt) had to talk Ajamu out of it. Granted Ajamu is no world beater but he is on par or a touch below Sakio Bika, and above Manfredo. Jones has been acting like an ass lately, but I still love the guy and will support him till the end. Especially if that end includes him whippin Calzaghe's ass.
P.S. Where ya been lately?

:coolclick: Exactly.
All this horse S*** of him saying this & doing that is fwockin aggrevating to someone that tries to remain a
loyal fan of the man.
that fight (laugh all you want) would generate PPV buys on HBO & the gate across the pond would probably be staggering.
Loyal fan? Who are you trying to kid Wacko?! Ya predicted Ajamu to knock him out. And for the record, Roy looked good the whole fight and had Ajamu ready to quit, but fat a** with pipe(McGirt) had to talk Ajamu out of it. Granted Ajamu is no world beater but he is on par or a touch below Sakio Bika, and above Manfredo. Jones has been acting like an a** lately, but I still love the guy and will support him till the end. Especially if that end includes him whippin Calzaghe's a**.
P.S. Where ya been lately?
HULK when it comes to RJJ and Joe C. WHO IS MAS MACHO?
Jones is. No doubt.

Re: ROY JONES SAYS HE'LL TAKE 40-60 TO FIGHT CALZAGHE!!
No, Jones isn't going to take any of the Hopkins action. He wouldn't as a champ when Hopkins chased him all over the country, and he sure as shit ain't going to take him on now. He eeked out a fairly close UD the first time, but Hopkins would probably stop him this time around.

Says if offer isn't accepted Calzaghe "must be scared"
Yesterday afternoon BoxingTalk.com received a call from a particularly confused Roy Jones Jr. The former pound for pound kingpin is wondering why Team Joe Calzaghe has virtually ignored his proposal to fight the King of Cardiff in the UK later this year. In an effort to show that he should still be considered one of the world's best, Jones makes it clear that he would fight Calzaghe in the UK under a 40-60 split, 40% for Jones, 60% to Calzaghe. RJ willing to accept less than parity? Yep. Read the full must read one on one interview to see what Jones had to say, you don't want to miss it. ONLY ON BOXINGTALK.

WOW... Jones must really want this fight! :o
Who the hell does Jones jr think he is.??? He lost 3 of his last 6 fights 2 by devastating KO's. Since the KO's he has fought 2 clubfighters and an overweight ex champ fighting 2 weights above his normal. NOW he has the gall to offer Joe Calzaghe, an undefeated p4p ranked fighter, a 40 60 split. ROFL
Jones does not deserve to even be Calzaghes sparring partner let alone an opponent.

Why did we even have this big long argument about how Jones would do wonders for Calzaghe's legacy the other day  ;D
