.....no one has said anything about Justin Hawkins!
That either means he's really good, or good enough to not make fun of.....and BTW Mick Mars was friggin good at guitar......better than most others during his era

But hell, I'm a musician and that may have something to do with pickings. ;)
What about Mick Ronson and John Squire ?
Lots of great names mentioned. Here's one more.
Mark Knopfler
Great with Dire Straits, great solo. If you don't own Golden Heart, buy it today. He's not as flashy as some, but he he is tasty, tasteful, and he can burn when he wants.
sultans of swing mate ;D awesomeQuote:

A few more names
Will Sergeant
Mick Ronson
Lou Reed (Sister Ray is something else)
Bernard Butler
Eddie Vanhalen of course and George Lynch (the best rock/hairmetal guitarist of the 80's).
Robert, I was just busting your gonads. Morello is an innovative player and a pretty cool guy at that. ;) ;DQuote:

Vai, satriani, batio, malmsteen, eric johnson, slash, eric clapton, jimi hendrix, kirk hammet, eddie van halen, Mark knopfler. They are all pretty damn good.
If you check youtube there is some really good guitar players that arent famous, guys like Jerry C, Mattrach(youtube name), funtwo. All three have one thing in common, they both played canon rock, which is basically pachabels canon in D turned into a total shred rockathon and sounds awesome. I can play some of it. Jerry C wrote it and he sure can play.Mattrach did a cover of canon rock, played it heaps good...then wrote his own and it sounded even better. The guy is around my age and kicks my arse totally on the guitar...but hes played since he was 7 it says on his bio thing. Have a look on youtube, you find heaps good undiscovered guitarists.
ayup snakey mate. where the fuck you been for ages mate. long time no (auzie) smell :-)Quote:

I love Kirks guitaring. Love his creativity and he's played some great stuff in his time.
So i'd put him up their with the greats certainly
I woudln't however go to the lengths of saying he's better than any of the others mentioned...
I mean how can we judge this anyway.
Do we go on creativity?
Pure guitar skills?
Complexity?
Speed?
Passion?
Quality of songs?
I've always loved Metallica and a lot of the old guitar stuff that went along with them so it's easy for me to say that judging by any of the above I loved what Kirk did on his axe....
Maybe it could be edited to read,,, greatest guitar players and why they're so great?? That would help with the whole, no WAY is him better then him..!
Hendrix was marverlous also, I Santana was amazing, but yet I don't really like listening to him that much. Which has absolutely NOTHING to do with his guitar skills.... technically he may be 'greater' than others, but yeah... anyway you see what i'm getting at...
That guy that said Kirk was better than everyone hands down probably just f'n loved metallica, and he could probably hear another 100 great guitarists 1000 times over and still like listening to Metallica more,, so hence he would probably still say Kirk is the BEST guitarist ever.. I suppose in his opinion he'd be correct too becuase any day of the week he'd rather listen to him play guitar than anyone else...
okay i'll shut up now
This is from the dvd van halen: live without a net (sammy hagar almost dies during one song)
his brother also does an amazing drum solo thats on the dvd but im not lookking for that now.

and george lynch. Believe it or not most of the guitarists in the 80's were pretty good but overlooked. Here's the best of them.

Cheers and C.C. #1,970,986,845,295, Mick. Love Santana and he's way up on my list. One of the musical cats around.Quote:

Just think of what Jimi could have done if he would have taken the opportunity and worked with Miles Davis. This is sheer Genius! ;)
Yeah, I love them both. Lynch Mob is a great band, and his guitar work with Dokken is incredible.Quote:

yeah LYLE! cant believe we forgot PRINCE!
now that guy was one talented mo fo so talented its scarrrrry!
rumor has it Prince like never took any lessons he just started picking up instruments and started playing them?????? like some prodigy kid?
crazy huh?
CC 1058 by the way LYLE!
of no relation but the guy that produced Prince's cd;s. Jellybean Johnson: I saw him play in a shithole club with Ronnie baker Brooks and he blew my socks off. Fucking amazing.
Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, BB King, Albert King (I have a great cd of Albert King and SRV playing together), Howlin Wolf (have a cd where he's telling the Stones the correct way to play a song, hilarious) and many others. I'm partial to the blues and like the older stuff like Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Sampson Pittman, etc. While were on this subject, I have been trying to find an early Rolling Stones cd which has some of their early blues stuff like Route 66 and Walking the Dog. I've looked at all the music stores in my area and can't find any early stuff, can anyone help?
That vid that Lyle put up reminded me -
Anyone looked really close at Buckethead? Is it just me, or does Paul Gilbert's prodigal student look an awful lot like Paul Gilbert?
Kinda fun, ain't he?
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I think IGNORANT is the most appropriate adjective. To play devils advocate, Kirk Hammett is playing in a completely different idiom. This guy was apparently a metal-head, but Darrell Abbott or Alex Skolnik blows Hammett out of the water in the metal-scene.Quote:

It's like comparing Picasso's cubist period to Jackson Pollak - it just doesn't make any sense.
CC bro! that was well said, but yes this doosh bag was clearly a racist thats why im no longer friends with him. his racist mouth almost got his asss kicked so many times. i cant stand to be around someone whos like that u know? its a sad situation cuz hes really a lost cause.Quote:

Guy remarked to me one time that I was too white and too Irish to play the blues. LOL And this was coming from a guy who's father was the first black physicist to break the color barrier at Brookhaven National Lab. I finished the gig, took my $110, and told him to call Buddy Guy (who I can't hold a candle to). Last time I seen him play, he was playing with this morbidly obese Italian dude...go figure.Quote:
