Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
i am surprised so many of you have tyson on the list ring magazine had tyson no 77 in the hardest heavyweight punchers of all time . Also a lot of boxing fans these days think his power is overrated . I saw a clip of tyson using the heavybag with rooney and his punches didnt look that hard.
-
Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
uhhh...what? I'm by no means a Tyson fan but to have him outside the top 10 or even 5 in all time heavy hitters is absurd...You combine the power he had with his hand speed and you got one of the most dynamic punchers of all time. I'd put Foreman at the top with Shavers/Liston/Tyson/Marciano some where behind

1. Foreman
2. Wills
3. Dempsey (He probably wasn't but he F****** well went for it)
Rocky had ball's? Tough fighter but he never faced a live threat in his life. His title defences were against old men.
Lennox hit harder than him that is obvious. Lennox was 50lbs heavier.

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
This is the hardest ever. Period. Foreman , Frazier and Tyson when Ernie Shavers come back was denied by Tyson's people saying it was too risky for there young fighters career.Best ever to never win a championship.

An awful lot of you guys are including tyson on your lists, and altho i do rate him top 5 or so i have to point out that lennox hit harder. Thats not an opinion thats a scientifically proven fact, see Lewis biography.

please explain how it is a fact . tyson or lewis never had their power measured.

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
Both Tyson and Lewis HAD their power tested on the same day.
I'm not at home so i cant pull the biography or the news articles but essentialy according to all evidence, Lewis punched considerably harder than tyson. I'll scan up the quote later if u like.

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
Well George is the first fighter i seen pick a fighter up off his feet (frazier) but i would have to say Shavers he had the strength of a horse.

if you scan it up i will belive you . but you have being promising to scan it to up for the past week. Could you at least tell me what book you got this information from so i can see for myself. i thinking your winding me up dude. steve loitt and kevin rooney said tyson never had his punching power tested that is why i dont believe you . I also have talked to numerous people who have all lewis autobiographys which is where you have claimed to have got your information from and none of them have said that there was anything about tyson and lewis getting their power tested . You say that tyson and lewis got their power tested just before the tyson lewis fight in 2002 . There is only one of lewis atuobigraphys printed after 2001 and that is "mamas boy" and there aint anything about lewis power being tested . So forgive me for being sceptical. Your stories just dont add up . If i am proven wrong i will whole heartedly apologise.

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
1)Right i never said anything about jus before the fight. I said sometime before the fight.
2)Iv also said on numerous occasions that i will scan it up when i get an opporunity to get home, and i haven't yet got the opportunity.
3) The Autobiography i have is a small biography, hardback, with Lennox Lewis embossed in gold Capitals along the side, i haven't been able to identify which book it is as i haven't been at home, but iv researched it a little and i believe it to be a 1993 version as it was released around the same time as a Frank Bruno biography i also own.
4) You'll be pleased to know that im on my way home this evening and i will be able to scan it before night.
-
Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
1. Tyson
2. Shavers
3. Foreman
4. Frazier
5. Norton/Lewis/Liston (couldn't decide)

The book was released you say in 1993 . Tyson was in prison from 92 to 95 . How in the hell did tyson get his power measured in prison.

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)

-
Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
Iv bin saying i will post it when i get home, and to the best of my knowledge i will be home damn soon, I have been unable to get home for the past three weeks as i am currently hospitalised from an injury....I'm getting irratated as u are becoming increasingly demanding and i jus can't grab the book at this second. I give u my word that by late this evening i will have posted a scan of the page containing the information you lust after so badly aswell as the Title of the book and publication date. Alright?

Tyson would always be number 1 for me. His demolition of Trevor and Spinks still lingers in my mind. O0

In my lifetime, sorry Tyson you aren't close. Tommy Morrison, he had little boxing skills but he hit harder than anybody. 7 DUI's, yea he blew it. Awesome boxing game on the computer, its not without disagreements on the ratings but the best one out there.

I have the Lennox Lewis Champion book which was written by Ken Gorman but makes a refrerence to the 1993 book that you mention and seems to be a republishing of that Steeples book. So think it is an update. What chapter is the info on?

Hey I am new and started the same type of thread, but I agree absolutely with your ranking of hardest punching heavy weights of all time

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
Tua hit harder than Foreman. Reason being, I think Ali would not have been able to Rope-a-Dope him; he just hits way too hard.. (Although Ali would have danced his pants off a la Lennox Lewis)
My list:
Tuaman
Shavers
Foreman
Tyson
Marciano
..... honorable mention ....
V Klitschko
At any weight hardest hitter???
Gatti
Marciano (if u consider him a LHW)

Now that is a great ranking, I agree with it. We should remember that the great Ali beat the first four and , therefore should be on the list of hardest heavy weight punchers
Joe Frazier , was almost knocked out by Oscar Bonavena and I think he was very lucky to get the decision. Ali knocked out Bonavena?

Re: Hardest puncher, ever? (heavyweight)
ali is the best boxer but not the biggest puncher

I did not say Ali was the hardest puncher what I meant he should be in the list, and not someone like Patterson who some guys put in their list
Sonny Liston said he was led to believe that Ali could not punch, after the first fight he said "That kid can really punch hard"
