I don't think so as much as I like Gatti. He gets stopped by a savage onslaught of combos topped off by a lethal hook to the liver that sends Arturo down and he just can't get up in time.
I think Gatti can outbox Gomez as long as he sticks to boxing. Gatti even had his moments in his last fight and Baldomir is a much better fighter than Gomez. Gatti may be fighting on too long and i do think hes borderline shot but he still has experience against good fighters and that will get him this win.
Im looking to see Gatti go out here like he came in...losing and down on points but then coming back to KO Gomez in the late rounds to prove he is still the blood and guts warrior with all the heart in the world...only now he has to do it against lesser caliber opponents than those of yesteryear. Gatti by KO in ten.

"B list" ?
Alfonso came out of nowhere to star in a reality tv show that so far has produced no real "contenders." Showed good skills but would be nowhere near this cash-in position if he weren't in the right place at the right time. Like a Baldomir light. Fun to watch but doesn't have the skills to ever be in the top ten.

I think Gatti will lose this personally.
lets look at gomez's career defining fights. The best he has on his resume is a 1-1 record against manfredo and a trilogy with some bum that i cant even remember the name of.
Jesse Fliciano a "bum." Swell. Nice piece of research. Is Ishe Smith a "bum" too?
if the shoe fits...

Matthew Hatton is Ricky's little brother, who Gatti put on his shortlist to fight and Matthew accepted. Gatti knew he'd lose that fight, Matthew could be a really good fighter soon, his last performance was near perfect.
Shame for Matt living in his brothers shadow then again we all do the fat little fucker ;D

Re: Gatti to fight Alfonso Gomes in July. Bad decison on Gatti's part.
Also ted if i recall correctly you made the prediction that the wlad/austin fight would be competitive. Lets look at the score:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUUSCvRAA0g
Wlad's left hand: 4
You: 0

From another site:
"Wladimir Klitschko faces mandatory challenger, Ray Austin on Saturday and it will be a repeat of the Brock blow out. Austin stands at 6 feet 6 inches and weighed 245 pounds which means he will see eye to eye with Klitschko. The Rainman has an 80' reach while Dr. Steel hammer has an 81' span. While size is a wash, Klitschko’s superior physique is firmer and far more muscular. His vein popping muscles make for jackhammer type power.
Wladimir, 47- 3 (42 ko's) with a great ko percentage of 84%, has had many clean one-punch icings. Klitchko was an Olympic Gold Medal winner. Austin was tough street fighter from Cleveland. Nothing more need be said.
Most of Ray's big fights have ended in draws. Harold Sconiers beat Austin in a six rounder by UD on November 2, 2006. Austin then lost only once more in his next thirteen fights and went on to become a top contender fighting at the top level of his division. The once promising Sconiers, however, proceeded to hit a sharp detour, losing ten consecutive bouts.
If a won-lost analysis of the Doctor's opponents were done, the result would be absolutely astounding. Most of his opponents had outstanding records coming in. Axel Schulz Phil Jackson, Cody Koch, Chris Byrd, Jameel McCline, Derrick Jefferson. Danell Nicholson, Eliseo Castillo, Samuel Peter and many more.
Manny Steward has created a highbred killing machine.....blending the best of American and European styles with a frightening result. His killer robot recipe will be perfect for Big Ray. He will quickly figure his plodding, one dimensional opponent. Ray will attempt to set himself and jab like a Larry Holmes, but Wald will adjust by beating him to the punch with his own superior jabs. He will then shift into automatic by sharply increasing the number and intensity of jabs often following up with straight rights.
Ray makes up for technical deficiencies with grit, determination and heart and will come into this fight in great shape. It's his one and only shot at the brass ring and he knows it. His best chance to win, albeit a slim one, may be to let it all hang out ala Corrie Sanders and try to mug Klit with an all-out attack at the bell. But in this one, he will be in way over his head. Wladimir will then execute. His brutal jabs will take a terrible toll on the Rainman who will not see the sledgehammer right coming down the middle in either the 5th of 6th round. Upon landing, it will end this fight decisively.
The only caveat is that Klitschko must fight overconfidence. Manny should be able to keep him inside himself. One thing, however. Based on the Brock fight, Klitschko needs a better cut man in his corner."
The thing I missed is that he would do it with his left.

Probally the best combonation I have ever seen thrown came at the end of the 5th round when Mickey Ward threw a flurry. Gatti must be tough because he didn't go down. If Gomez wants to beat him the need to throw a more variety of punches and combos from all diffrent angles.
good points

Maybe, but Gomez has a great chin though he does test it too much, which would be a bad mistake against Gatti. This is one of those fights where I am betting on one guy (getting great odds of course) and kind of hoping that the other guy wins. Crazy, but that's just the way it is.

Re: Gatti to fight Alfonso Gomes in July. Bad decison on Gatti's part.
Time to drive down to Connecticut and Foxwoods where I'm being semi-comped to cover the fight between Acelino and The Baby Bull. Very tough one to call, though I am leaning toward the Bull becaus eof age. Kind of like Gomez vs. Gatti but on a higher level.

But Austin will surprise Klitchko with his gameness and aggressiveness and make the fight competitive until the jabs start slowing him down. He will stun Klit with a right of his own, but the big Ukrainian will fight through it.

Re: Gatti to fight Alfonso Gomes in July. Bad decison on Gatti's part.
I like both of these guys and I think it is gonna be a great matchup. It's almost a pick-em for me due to Gatti being so worn out. If this is Gatti's last fight I would've liked to see him beat up Feliciano rather than Gomez...and Feliciano can take a shot almost as good as Gatti.

Gatti should be able to beat Gomez IMO. Isn't Gomez like almost equal to Jesse Feliciano, they had a trilogy or something right? I can't stand Feliciano, he's a punk, but he's tuff. So is Gomez. Gatti is too, but he's a class above these two guys and should be able to out box Gomez and hurt him. It'll be an exciting fight and surly one of Gatti's last, and for sure his last if he loses.
