Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
well whoever said Oscar is just as fast as Floyd is wrong . This is a smaller guy who should be fighting at 140 at the most fighting a guy who is natural at 154. Oscar will have the power in this fight probably more than he does when he fights other 154 pound fights. Just because Floyd is smaller. Floyd has to make it to round 3 and then he will start to dictate and control the fight. It might be hard in round one or two. Oscar should come out smoking. But he won't.

That's going to be one of the interesting things to watch. I think Oscar is going to get very physical and be very aggressive with Floyd in this fight, and I am one of those who believes that he will be able to impose his size and strength on Floyd, but I think you're right, I don't think he's going to come out that way. He know's, however, that he's not going to be able to wait that long to do it.
I think a lot of the talk of him matching Floyd's speed is to create questions about what he's going to do. I really don't think that's a serious approach. At least not to match speed with speed directly.
We'll have to see how it unfolds.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I had a dream last night that Mayweather is winning the fight with the greatest of ease until his arms fall off between round 5 and 6.
I didn't really have that dream but I wouldn't be surprised if I did. As of late I have been worrying about his hands and wether or not they will hold up for the entire fight.

8) Believe me your not the only one that believes Oscar can win this fight many people do its just on this site look around and you will its all oscar in Calif.

This is 2007, not 97.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Im picking Oscar to stop PBF late in the fight. Not by 1 punch however. I believe oscar will give PBF a fight he never expected, Oscar will eat some of PBF's punches to connect on a combo of his own. I believe PBF will be the one that gets discouraged. If zab judah can Knockdown PBF, why the hell cant Oscar. I mean, Oscar might not be faster than PBF, But, hes extremely intelligent.
All in All, Oscar tko late rounds (10)
PBF will come with the excuse that his father was a great distraction in training camp. lol

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I think #1 Floyd is DUE for a loss and #2 Oscar is too big, too strong, and too good of a boxer to be beaten by Floyd

:coolclick: Kinda agree here.
This is one of those times that I think Floyd may have bitten off more than he can chew...but I still want Floyd to win...even though I'm an Oscar fan, I'm a bigger fan of what Floyd does versus what Oscar does.

While I think Oscar has more of a shot at making a fight of this...I don't remotely agree with this post.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
It's wierd, now that the fight approaches, and you asked me how it will go I'll stumble around with words and contradict myself and everything it's all very wierd. It would be so much easier if De La Hoya was the pressure fighter with the strong double and triple jab like people think he was. That would make it clear cut one way or another imo. But both of these guys are so damned diverse it is freaking impossible for me to wrap my head around it. So many things can happen. Just look at what Oscar can do and wouldn't be unreasonable to see him try.
1. Mayweather can make Oscar come forward and it will be Oscar's job to be the relentless puncher and figure out ways to keep Floyd from punching and moving. If Floyd chooses to go that route of course.
2. Oscar can stand his ground, fire off a stiff jab and keep Mayweather on the outside without lunging with anything, and then try to time Mayweather as he comes inside. This is how Oscar fought against Mayorga, he was flatfooted most of the time and I think this makes for the most intriguing matchup.
3. Oscar moves forward, constantly trying to stay on top of Mayweather whilst ripping with the hooks to try to catch Mayweather moving side to side. A lot of people think Oscar will be chasing the chicken, but I really would be surprised if this happened.
That's just from one fighter's style standpoint, not to mention all the other intangibles like how Floyd can take a punch and all these other things. No matter how old Oscar is or how "slow" he might be, this is a match up of two of the best. Plain and simple. And it's really taken me this long to realize it. Can't wait.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
One week out from the fight and Oscar is 158lbs and Floyd is 150lb, now i know they will be very close come the weigh in but Oscar is going to go into this fight much bigger and with a weight advantage over Floyd. His body will be used to this as he has been 147lb and over for 10years!
I watched a little of Monzon V Napoles ( Youtube had a few rounds) size does matter and i just don't see Floyd being strong enough and hitting hard enough to prvent a DLH win.
If Floyd wins this then everyone on this forum who has bagged Floyd at some point including me will have to apologise, it will be an incredible effort and he would deserve full credit.
Will Oscar dominate? I don't think so but i think he will win.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
well less than a week left and i cant wait .... first i thougt it was a joke i said "mayweather will kill this guy" then i checked myself and thought a little ... delahoya has a chacne of winning ...... not because hes the better fighter but he seems to have other advantages .... hes calling the shots
1 "the punchers gloves"
2 a smaller ring
3a good "sparring" partner
3 created drama for the mayweather family which he doesnt hev to worry about
4 huge size and power advantage
so if mayweather does win i think you guys deserve to giv him hes credit because he really small and is fighting a great legendary fighter who went toe to toe with mosely twice beat trinindad vargas pernell quartey and etc .... floyd has everything pinned against him including most of the ppl that tun in for the fight so good luck to both of them this si my last mayweather-delahoya post till fight night
hope its gonna be a great fight and floyd wins so i could make 30 dollars mayb 50 before fight time

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Been reading the papers these days, and most boxing experts I've read are certain that Oscar's gonna win. I myself have said since the beginning that DLH would win this match. For the same reasons everyone has said over and over. They're fighting at Oscar's weight. No way is 154 a good weight for PBF. He can get himself in the best shape he can...... he's still gonna come in slightly under the limit. He's gonna be slower and more sluggish than at his natural weight of 140. That's 14 pounds difference. Might as well be a ton. Meanwhile, 154 is Oscar's perfect weight at this time in his career. You put on a few years, you put on a few pounds. It's a natural progression. Oscar's gonna outweigh Floyd by at least 10 pounds when they step into the ring. What's more, Oscar's gonna walk right through Floyd. Floyd's forte is his boxing skills.... he's never been a devastating puncher. And Oscar's speed is not to be underrated. So what's left? As much as it saddens me to say it, I'm expecting an Oscar KO victory.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
I'm banking on the fact that Mosley was about all he could handle years ago and he lost both of those bouts.
I just can't see him getting to Mayweather with any consistency. He might bloody Mayweather nose with some jabs.
I see it as that old fable about the tortoise and the hare. Mayweather has to rest on his laurels to lose this one.

that comment alone is why you don't know what the hell you're talking about.....
Yeah and you having Tito as your Top 5 is a hell of a reason for me to think your a dumbass. Tito was a great fighter sure... no way near Top 5 not even 10... Way more legends.. You however look like a mainstream punk with Recent "big name" with fighters like Shane, Floyd, Holyfield, tito, and RJJ in ur top 5. Go watch espn classic n then come back. Its not like Floyd is a speed machine, and is going to bomb DLH with Dragon Ball Z lightling fast attacks... what he will do get sit on his arse lightning fast!!!
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
The bottom line is Oscar has faced everything Floyd has to offer before and stacked the odds in his favour. Floyd is in uncharted territory.
The way I see it the guy that stood and froze up a couple of times early opposite Judah would of got sparked by Oscar. The guy that was leaning back and jumping in with his chin out against Baldomir would have got sparked by Oscar. The guy that held his own against Hopkins for 9 rounds is good enough to beat lil'Floyd.
-
Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
So Oscar fought Mayorga as a warm-up/confidence booster. Let's analyze that. Usually when a fighter takes a warm-up does he wait a whole year to fight again? And obviously Mayorga got under DLH's skin and that's why he fought a slugfest because he wanted to punish him. All that means is you can get inside Oscar's head and make him fight outside of the fight he should be employing. I think we'd all agree DLH could have beaten Mayorga a lot easier than he did. Now you come from glorified sparring partner a Cinco de Mayo ago to the best lb. for lb. fighter in the sport and you think Oscar is going to have it easy?
In the words of Marcellus Wallace (and I'm paraphrasing), "If you think yo ass is like wine and it get better with time, it don't.". Oscar is older, way more inactive and hasn't beaten a fighter of any significance since Fernando Vargas and that's 2002. And if you want to count the 2nd fight with Mosley I'll nullify it with Sturm.

but there is a grey area you are missing...
Sturm, Hopkins and Mosley would all whoop the shiat outa Baldomir, Judah and Mitchell. So my point is we know the limit of Oscar's talent. How would Mayweather's talent fair against Sturm, Hopkins and Mosley that is the question.
Keep in mind there recent accomplishments and the fact that Floyd has never even fought a legitimately heavy handed Welterweight.

great pics by the way. Where did you find them? If you did that then that is great work. Especially the first picture of Floyd on the floor. That is exactly how Oscar would look if he knocked down Floyd. Great pictures.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Well they are great pics and the first one is almost exactly how Oscar would look.
I have been looking at the stats of Oscar and Floyd and their opponents. Oscar has a 73 inch reach and Floyd a 72 inch reach not much difference.. Floyd is 5-8 and Oscar is 5-10 1/2.. Oscar Opponents recently Mayorga is 5-9 and has a 69 inch reach-and he hit Oscar enough, although his style is wild and he takes punches to give. Mosley has a 74 inch reach and is 5-9. Hopkins is 6-1 75 inch reach,, Vargas 5-10 74 inch reach, Castillejo is 5-10 tall with a 72 inch reach, Quartey 5-7 1/2 71 inch reach, Chavez 5-7 tall with a 67 inch reach. Some of Floyd's opponents. Baldomir 5-7 tall and 67 inch reach, Judah 5-7 tall with a 72 inch reach, Mitchell 5-7 tall 72 inch reach, Castillo 5-8 tall 69 inch reach,, Corrales 5-11 tall with a 70 inch reach,-which explains why Corrales does not use much of a jab. I am not sure what I make out of these stats. But Oscar's opponents are bigger and he is used to fighting big and smaller guys. Common opponents Genaro Hernandez (Oscar win TKO6, Floyd win TKO8) Floyd fought Hernandez 3 years later, Arturo Gatti (Oscar W TKO 5, Floyd TKO 6)

Inactivity could present a problem. Even in knocking out Mayorga, at times he did seem a little rusty.
That's a big reason why I thought Mosley was such a big deal as a sparring partner. Not so much because of his speed and/or ability to emulate Floyd, but because 20 rounds of sparring with one of the best boxers in the world will really help Oscar shake off his rust. There's nothing like activity to stay sharp, but sparring with Mosley is sure better than sparring with anyone else to help get him sharp and ready.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
Manny P. can you believe I do not know how you guys get the quotes in blue on yoru responses. Yeah I think Oscar will get in the rhythm of testing the waters, but he sometime gets caught in that trap and then might get in Floyd's timing. Remember the Quartey fight when Oscar and Ike didn't do anything until the other guy did. I thought that fight was entertaining and boring at the same time.

Re: Am i the only one who think Oscar will dominate Floyd?
This fight will only has two ways it will go....
1...floyd v baldomir...floyd pot shots oscar from the outside all night to 120-08 or 119-109
2. floyd beats oscars ass for 10 rounds then forgets that power is the last thing to go and tries to stand in with oscar and eats a straight right then left hook that ends his night...

Pretty much how I have, PBF runs for his life and pot shots or Oscar smashes him down, I hope it's the latter.
Do we know if they agreed to a smaller or larger ring?
