He is, in fact, fighting for the Light Heavyweight linear championship, against the champ, B-Hop. The only reason it's not for every one of those worthless alphabet straps on top of that is that Tarver and Johnson took fights other than their mandatories so the belts became dis-unified. But the line from Roy Jones goes to Hopkins. And it doesn't become a non-title fight because it's being fought at LESS than the upper limit. It would only DQ if they were fighting at ABOVE 175.
But hey, if Winky could get down to 154 still (which I agree maybe he could), that's the toughest fight out there for Floyd (though if he won, the haters would just say Winky was old anyway).

Personally I think if Hatton beats Castillo and Oscar doesn't secure the fight Floyd will unretire for that one.

Forget what he says for a second!
Ali didn't literally make medicine sick. What of it?
Have you people never heard of the concept of trash talk before??
Sure Floyd's arrogant. How does that take away from what he does in the ring?
If he stated in interviews that he absolutely sucks, would that automaitcally make him better in your eyes somehow?
Forget what he says. Judge him for what he does in the ring.
It's funny how people who dislike Floyd hang on his every last word so much.
No, don't forget. Here's why I don't like him. PBF doesn't know what the hell he wants to be. He is a slick boxer so his trash talk should be like Ali's.... " I'm gonna float like a butterfly, sting like a bee"... Ali trash talked all before Foreman fight about how Foreman wasn't gonna be able to touch him. He bragged about his strengths. PBF brags about things that aren't his strengths " I'm gonna massacre him, etc.... For me if he stuck with his strengths and would just be himself, and trash talk about what he can and will really do, then he would get credit.... He's an idiot cause he doesn't want to be who he is, and it's obvious again by this crap. He wants to be the bad guy, but then he wants to be the good guy.... Floyd is childish and needs to grow up....
Re: Mayweather makes it clear why he is retiring
With the way Floyd spends money and gambles, he will be fighting for a long time.
As for me, I hope he becomes financially disciplined at the same level as he is physically disciplined. But alas, this boy seems to be on the wrong path.

well lets hope he invests it more wisely than a ghetto wannabe gangsta record label with no artists lol
Re: Mayweather makes it clear why he is retiring
that's the problem. we can only hope :( rumor has it that he owes the IRS, and at one time they put a lien on his house.
I hope someone shocks Mayweather by telling him that Tyson is bankrupt and Riddick Bowe is now a security guard that lives in a basement apartment.

Boxing is a sport that you don't want to play the "where are they now" game. There's a very long list of broke boxers. Leon Spinks is a janitor.
Re: Mayweather makes it clear why he is retiring
you got that right cc .. the way he spends and he got that gambling bug.. that ship will soon sink .

this is why it is incumbent on boxers today to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors and practice the same discipline in their finances as they do in the ring. A boxer reaches his prime at 36. That means whatever millions he has, has to last him for another 40 years at least. In addition he has to provide for his wife, and children, and leave an inheritance.
If a fighter makes $30 mill and lives on $1 mill per year, they can only live a certain lifestyle for 30 years. (assumption is that inflation will eliminate interest income) It would be much feasible if a boxer lives a lifestyle of $300 K for 40 years and let the rest be in trust accounts for his children.
But how many boxers sees this. Ironically, even lottery winners don't see this.
Floyd made about $20 mill for this fight including pay per view. With management fees, promotion fees, sanctioning fees and taxes, he will probably walk away with $11 million if he is lucky. Trust me, with that lifestyle that Floyd wants, he will have to continue to fight, because I know he saw Oscar's private Jet. And a 2000 Bombardier Lear costs $10 million + at least $400,000 per year in maintenance.
Floyd ain't going to be leaving boxing without people seeing him in his own jet.

No class? Here's something else he said, this time about Oscar and the fans and the judges
FMJ: He's a good fighter, he's a great guy, he's a great promoter. I have nothing bad to say about him.He has a lovely family, and I wish him nothing but the best in the future.
I was comfortable with the judges, they all did a great job. Oscar De La Hoya is a great champion. Golden Boy is a great company. All you guys have done a hell of a job. We must understand this, me and Oscar, we didn't do this by ourselves. You guys helped, every media, every photographer, every writer, all the internet pages, I appreciate you. I'm saying thanks, not just from me, but from team De La Hoya and Golden Boy as well.
Whoever said that Mayweather would end up with GBP after this fight I present exhibit A ;D
