and that's ridiculous..because roy was extremely exceptional...if a trainer were training a young fighter that was trying to lead with left hooks and constantly leave his feet the way roy did, the trainer would stop it immediately...and young fighter would say "well roy jones used to do it"
and trainer would reply "well he's the exception, and you're not him"
EXCEPTIONAL......
Well said and agreed i think people are missing the point.
How so? Thats my point Roy would be even great today if he had half the fundamental skill... You guys get your panties all in a bunch, thinking people are taking anything away from Roy... I sure is hell aint the man was subperb and a phenom.. But let the truth be told he has horrible fundamentals and that was his demise and fall from grace
Lol im not getting my panties all in a bunch at all im just debating with you and he is like Michael Johnson of boxing bad technique maybe but still exceptional.

well i was just commenting on what floyd sr said..and he never said why he felt roy wasn't exceptional...and all the comments about roy not having fundamentals just came out of nowhere..because not once did floyd mention fundamentals...so anyone commenting on roy's fundamentals IMO were just looking to say something negative (abeit truthful) about roy, but only discussing whether or not he was exceptional..is the case and he was

i understand, but the article..floyd sr never mentioned fundamentals....so i don't know why it was mentioned anyway..that's what i don't understand, if anyone was just commenting on what Sr said then i don't see why anyone would argue against roy being exceptional...

I think the fact is that Roy was exceptional. I think he should have fought more of the great fighters because he would have come out ahead and proved how good he really was.. To me his power and skills were better than Floyd by a mile. Floyd is good defensively when a punch comes toward Floyd he is not hit but it comes close. Roy was missed by feet and it did not come close. Even on the ropes he was not hit. He had a radar sort of like Wilfred Benitez, yet he had more power than Wilfred. Roy was like Wilfred Benitez with power. And Roy would counter incredibly well. A guy who beat Roy would have to jab him and not make any stupid mistakes. my feeling is Roy was skillwise one of the best ever but not Floyd.

A rematch with Toney to prove that the first fight was not a fluke, Maske, Williams, Eubank, Benn, and even Hearns. Hearns was still somewhat good in 1996,. But I admit Jones would have probably won at that point. I just think Jones avoided the top 3 or 4 guys at the weights he fought and fought the 5-10 rated guys too much which is the same thing Virgil Hill did in his lightheavyweight reign.. But the fact is he was so dominant, I think he would have beaten them all.

he beat toney's ass for 12 rounds that's not a fluke....a lucky KO is a fluke..like mccall-lewis...and there was no need to avenge a sound victory...and its funny that everytime someone mentions these guys that he didn't fight (the europeans) they always assume roy was ducking them, then say I think roy would have beaten them all....it makes more sense that they avoided roy...darius was sitting ringside when roy fought virgil hill after that body shot he hopped on a plane never to return to the U.S., i don't doubt that eubank, benn, williams, and anyone else was thinking the same thing as Darius when they watched roy fight which was
"Hell NO, I don't want any part of that guy"

How can Toney fight be a fluke the fight wasn't even close Eubank didn't want no part of Jones didn't want to fight Benn after what happened to his friend Gerald i can understand that oh come on Hearns he would of beaten Hearns badly Hearns wouldn't have wanted to fight a prime Roy Jones when he was that shot.

Roy would have probably won.. Yes true, but to have that name on his record would have been good, and I think Hearns would have had a better shot at beating him than alot of guys he fought at the time. As for Toney, I do not mean he should have fought him because it was a questionable decision, but just to make it clear in people's minds that Toney was beaten twice rather than just once, and anyway it would have solidified Jones claim as a great fighter to beat Toney twice. It would not have hurt his career is my point and he needed some names on his resume. But I do think he is a great fighter who would have beat most guys he fought.
