It ain't being bias. Penalosa is old. Gonzalez will knock him out. Bautista is untested against good opposition. And I think his chin is a little shakey. De Leon will expose it. Brutally. Gorres is to slick for Guerrero. Rosas is better than Batawang. Banal is to young and skilled for Ortiz. And Roman is a good looking prospect who will walk right through Domingo.
I agree. That's why Phil fighters would be big underdogs against Mex.
But what if Phil ends up sweeping your beloved Mex fighters?
Guess who's gonna eat his words?

Sweep the Mexicans? Your better off hoping that they don't all get blown out and at least are competitive. Cuz the only fight I think is a pretty easy one for you guys is the Banal-Ortiz fight. And that's only if Banal doesn't get exposed as a fraud. Which I don't think he is. I think Gorres wins, but Guerrero will put up a fight. The rest I think are pretty much blow outs. Penalosa is to old. And Bautista might be to young. The only thing undecided is which of them 2 is going to get knocked out the worse.

yea medina was no walk over, but clearly boom boom was the better boxer. Medina is world class, now de leon is next. should a 20 year old get treated like this? two straight world class fighter? And its not like they are boom booms age? they are older and undefeated too.
I really do'nt think its good management for boom boom mick, do you?
I mean goldenboy has nothing to lose if either fighter lose, because they still have the winner. Its just like what happened to mab and jmm, the loser get tossed aside. Now I know why mab wants out of goldenboy. Good thing pac didn't sign with there evil Asses.

Re: Philippines vs Mexico
Although I agree the Gerry boxed very very well,I found it difficult to give him a round whereby he landed 2 or 3 admittedly wonderful shots and Ponce on the other hand was working solely on the body, some landing, some not but more landing than Penelosa.
If Gerry had been more active,it would have been a boxing masterclass and I have actually attempted to find some more Penelosa fights after that performance,I was that impressed but I just don't think he did enough to warrant the W.

The runner daniel "coward" ponce de leon was undeservingly awarded a victory for throwing so many punches in the air..there was never an instant that penalosa was clearly hit in the face in any round...most of his punches were blocked by the arms and gloves of penalosa..in contrast penalosa snapped the head of de leon on several occasions
I asked myself at the end of the fight, "this runner (ponce) won because of what? Ineffective output?" The veteran Penalosa schooled him. 90% of PDL's shots were caught by his gloves, and Penalosa would answer back with telling blows, smacking the younger and larger man around! If they were similar in size, and Penalosa had more power he would have put the kid to sleep.

right on the money EG. penalosa just wasn't aggressive enough especially in the latter rounds. that has always been a weakness in his game in previous fights. he just gotta have to learn to take more chances.

I get to go see this LIVE Ringside!!! It'll be my first live fight, and it looks to be very exciting. Even the low undercard looks good.

This is at the Arco arena in Sac town? I heard they have a big Philipino population in Sacramento.

My picks: Bautista KO
Gonzales Decision may get a k.o. but Gerry is too solid defensively
Dont know the other fighters too well, but I'm interested in seeing Z Gorres.

RB has a good chance of defeating De Leon if he would box him like Penalosa did.
De Leon throws wide looping punches and hits hard too. I agree, RB must focus on his defense and unleash quick and strong counter punch.. primarily the left hook coz De Leon is a southpaw.
If only Gerry had the power of RB, he would've KO'ed De Leon.
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
I don't know about koing De Leon and I don't think Gerry lost because of lack of power but rather lack of work rate. I thought Penelosa did well too and some of my favourite boxing writers thought he won but I found it difficult to give a round to Geryy where he landed one or two head snapping punches and Ponce threw/landed many many more but to the body. It was tough to score.
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
Bautista v Ponce de Leon = Draw after a war.
Z Gorrez kayos Guerrero in 5
Gonzalez SD Penalosa
Batawang pts Rosas
Banal early KO Ortiz
Roman mid round KO Domingo
Final score 3-2-1 to the Pinoy.
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
Jhonny Gonzalez by brutal knock out
Daniel Ponce De Leon by even more brutal knock out
Z Gorres by UD
Francisco Rosas by UD
AJ Banal by late stoppage
Miguel Roman by early knock out
4-2 Mexicans
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
any news on the 7th match?
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
No news yet.
Shame I have to work as I love this concept and am really looking forward to it.
The town I live in is over 50% Mexican and about 8% Filipino and my Casino has an even higher amount of Filipino's at it. There's a lot of interest.
They should do a Copa America version too. Venezuela v Panama, Brazil v Argentina, Mexico v USA and so on. Then throw in Philippines v Japan and a few European challenges (Italy v Spain - Ireland v Scotland) and you have a great series of battles there. Who cares about the combatants records. We all know how much better some athletes perform when their national pride is at stake.

Re: Philippines vs Mexico
[quote=Violent Demise ]
Jhonny Gonzalez by brutal knock out
you gotta be kidding. penalosa's never been stopped in his entire career and if ever it does happen in this fight i see more of the referee stepping in for a tko.
Daniel Ponce De Leon by even more brutal knock out
possibly. though i slightly favor de leon to win this one, i think bautista could pull an upset.
Z Gorres by UD
agree
Francisco Rosas by UD
other way around
AJ Banal by late stoppage
agree, though i think it would be in the mid round.
Miguel Roman by early knock out
agree, except it'll be in the late round or possibly by decision.
4-2 Mexicans
3-3 draw
-
Re: Philippines vs Mexico
This is the kind of event that I wish it was on PPV so viewers can watch the other cards and not just GP vs JG and RB vs PD.

Z "The Dream" Gorres may be out of the eagerly awaited Philippines vs Mexico World Cup of boxing at the Arco Arena on August 11 due to an eye problem.
Just read this and also:Diosdado Gabi is being picked to replace Z “The Dream” Gorres.

Agreed. Gorres is much more aggressive than Gabi.
Gabi's notable fight was against Vic Darchinyan, when Diosdado was schooling Vic in early rounds but then got viciously tagged just passed mid-rounds.

Re: Philippines vs Mexico
http://www.asianjournal.com/?c=124&a=21843
LOS ANGELES - With the Philippine vs. Mexico World Cup of Boxing just two weeks away, the Philippine team steps up their training. The boxing special is set to explode at the Arco Arena in Sacramento on August 11. The Philippine team arrived in Los Angeles in early July and has been training at the Wildcard Gym since.
Inside the Wildcard Gym, Michael “Bruce Lee” Domingo prepares doing a variety of military push-ups as ALA boxing trainer Edito and Edmond Villamor facilitate. As he finishes his reps, Z “the Dream” Gorres dressed in the famed ALA boxing trunks, makes his way to the same spot to do his own set of push-ups. They both make their way to the corner of the gym, completing their training for the day with excruciating sit-up repetitions.
Meanwhile, Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista watches a sparring match closely. Alex John “Bazooka” Banal has just finished his workout as Bert Batawang confers with ALA boxing trainer Jeremiah Quijano in another corner speaking. Diosdado Gabi, a new addition to the fight card, waits to complete his final sit up sets.
“The team is training very hard everyday, except Sunday, for two to three hours,” says Edito. “Everybody [on the team] is in good shape and there are no injuries.”
Freddie Roach of the Wildcard Gym said the Philippines teams training habits are great.
“All my Filipino fighters train over 110 percent,” said Roach. “They are all very good, very disciplined, very conditioned. We never worry too much about them. Simply put, they don’t BS.”
The Philippine team faces a stiff challenge against defending World Cup of boxing champion Mexico.
Domingo (27-16-3 11 KO’s) of Libac, Philippines is training for his upcoming fight against undefeated Mexican Miguel Roman (22-0 16 KO’s). Gorres (26-2-1, 14 KOs) of Mandaue City faces Mexico City’s Gerson Guerrero (33-7 25 KO’s) in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Bantamweight
Title eliminator bout.
Other undercard bouts scheduled for the night include unbeaten rising star Banal (13-0-1, 10 KO’s) of Ermita, who faces Eric Ortiz (26-6-1, 17 KO’s) of Mexico City.
