Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
....I will admit I liked Max in studio on ESPN FNF better
I still think Max would be very good if HBO decided to do a Boxing Show a la The Sports Reporters on ESPN. Get Max, Bert Sugar, Bob Papa, Larry Merchant, and some guests Teddy Atlas, Manny Steward, Freddy Roach, Lennox Lewis, Ray Leonard....etc....I wish they would do that once or twice a month wouldn't take much to do, throw highlights together, come up with some hypothetical fights/boxing news and talk about them....it would get a good reception from boxing fans

Even on ESPN I thought he was overrated and a guy who gets over excited about nothing. I am not sure how the guy appeals to anyone. Merchant is a class act. Do I think there are young guys out there who can match Merchant? Yeah, go where Merchant started out and hire a newspaper guy.

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
I just think it's so childish and immature on how they argue with each other, and how each guy always has to be right. Manny Steward is my favorite simply because his ego doesn't get in the way when someone disagrees with him.. I've muted the TV several times because of this.

I guess you'd rather watch a comentator lick PBF's balls?!?!...listen to Kellerman and every interview or discussion he finds some way to bring up PBF, he's worse than John Madden bringing up Brett Favre...absolutely pathetic...
Because first PBF is who Hatton has wanted since 2004, and second Castillo was shot. They seem like perfectly reasonable questions to me. Hatton hasn't been calling out Cotto or Margarito.

That happens more now since you have two guys who think they are experts.. Manny is the real expert and Max thinks he is . Jim is just a guy who moderates. I think Jim Lampley works well with Larry Merchant since he is a similar age and generation. When he and Max worked together a few days ago they seemed out of sorts. I guess Jim and Max are a similar seperation in age than Jim and Larry, but Jim and Larry are more of the old style of broadcasting. Actually the onetime I remember two guys sort of arguing is when Hagler was commentating for Hearns/Roldan in 1987 and he and Gil argued a point during the bout what side Hearns should move from Roldan. Well obviously Hagler knew better since at that point he had fought both of them and knew both guys in the ring.

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
I can forgive Lampley for his errors because i do find him a really charismatic likeable guy who i want to listen to,
I missed Larry
I don't find Kellerman very interesting to listen to, i don't think he adds anything to the mix.

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
Kellerman has always irked my ass.
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
If Kellerman gets rid of his faggoty goatie, dye his hair silver, and talk real real slow with crazy analogies and maybe people won't miss Merchant. ::**
As for limpd1ck, he needs to smoke more pot and beat up more of his supermodel fwock buddies.

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
I'm probably the only Kellerman fan on this site.
I've always like Kellerman, his enthusiasm, knowledge, & love of the sport...but I aint sure what the fwock he & the rest of the HBO team were on during Sat'dee's show.
I was & will stay pissed the fwock off regarding those Castillo comments & idiotic questions.
I agree with Hatton "He deserved a pat on the back for that win."
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
Kellerman could MAYBE be tollerable if he didn't have the worse voice I've ever heard in broadcasting.
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
haha at above me :D
there's something wrong with Kellerman, I can't define it.

I was hoping Hatton would fire back with "You got this job because Merchant is too old, how's it feel to replace someone who's washed up?"
When is the last time you watched any other sports interview and the question is... "Did your team win because the other team sucks?" It really was classless, and pointless. Kellerman should be warned about that, I hate trashy journalism. It's really frustrating that they put them on the spot and ask those questions. It's fair game for the athletes to ask stuff like, "Lampley, have you ever hit your old lady with a bodyshot like that?" Or "Max, how long are you gonna live off the sympathy for your brother's murder?"
Imagine the response. I'd like to see Lampley's face with that question.....

I agree with ya Wack, it's not often you hear an American boxing commentator that is young AND excited about boxing. I give him Saturday as his off-night.

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
I would pay HBO €100 jus to see Kellerman get in the ring.
I dunno he's just the type of guy that i wanna see horribly maimed....

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
Max Kellerman annoys me to no end; almost as much as Merchant did. At least Merchant was funny, usually because he forgot what he was saying, but funny nonetheless. Kellerman looks like a wannabe serial killer the way he turns his head towards the camera; and those freaky eyes that are open so wide they he looks like a chameleon. Then the Kermit the Frog voice which is an exact replica of Kermit. Not only does he sound like him, he moves like him also. Go watch some Kermit videos and tell me that isn't Max KillerMan,lol. Then there is the admitted changing of his opinion on Hatton after the fight, which was very unfair. So to hell with that guy. Manny I like, though he seems preoccupied sometimes, probably trying to get away from Limpwrist Lampley's bad breath.

I could tolerate Kellerman until the other night when he said how great Hatton would look if he beat Castillo convincingly; then changes his mind afterwards. All the other stuff I could tolerate, the creepy looks at the camera, the way he looked like he wanted to :doggy: Lampley; but not going back on what he said. Now he's the total package to me, or tool. Yeah, I'd ppv to watch him get his :gay-as-steelie: frame :jabbing:

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
But will HBO keep him? There's a lot of guys on this forum that have been voicing their distaste as regards comments made toward Hatton on fight night and also in relation to some others fights/fighters and HBO's attitude toward them.
If HBO wants to continue as virtually boxing's frontrunner as regards ppv they are going to have to offer a better service.
They can warn Kellerman, (he continuinly voiced personal opinions which were distasteful toward a world champion and a respected contender.) but he won't change. I don't have any great problem with Lampley but he completely missed round 3 and iv noticed this happening in a number of fights when he goes off on his tangents!
HBO needs to sharpen up.

I finally lost all respect for Kellerman when he said on the radio that 70% of Heavyweights are on Steroids. "Seven out of the 10 top heavyweights are on the juice," he said. "Most of the top guys are (juicing)." Max stated it as if it were fact. He just pulls numbers out of his ass ! Kellerman 's reckless opinions have no merit. he is constantly saying stupid shit that hurts boxing. ! Max wouldn’t know a boxing glove if he were wearing it !

Can you clarify which statements you're talking about? What did he say that was so distasteful?

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
The final count had barely left the lips of the referee when Kellerman blurts "Those people who said Castillo was shot are lookin pretty smart right now."
For me, and i know for many others, that was not only disrespecting Hatton and his victory but also Castillo.
Castillo has been a warrior keen to please the crowd and boxing analysts for a long time now, for Kellerman to walk in and dismiss Castillo as a past it nothing fighter really got to me....
And in the interview with Hatton he showed very little etiquette in my opinion...
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
then merchant must be ten times worst than kellerman...because he has torn down many HBO events after the results aren't to his liking....at least kellerman was speaking with the majority of boxing analyst..even manny was saying castillo didn't look good..and it was the first round....
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
well im pretty sure that the showing we received was of a sub-par Castillo, but there was little he could do against Hatton's style and i believe it was a little early to pronounce him as a shot fighter.

especially since castillo had moved up...but i do think shot or not hatton is bigger and would have beaten any version of castillo...much like clottey would have beaten any version of corralles..simply too big and too active...
-
Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
Very Good point that. I agree, but i still feel Castillo can go on in boxing.

Great points...The part that's astounding for me is after one loss to a well conditioned and pressure fighter like Hatton.... Castillo HAD to be shot according to Kellerman, never taking into account other factors that may have affected the fight...did he ever ask Hatton what his strategy in the fight was? or what he saw in Castillo? Nope, just that Castillo was shot and the only possible next fight was against PBF....Kellerman's "interview" was amaturish at best...
Love or hate Larry he always asks "what did you see?" and in this getting the fighters perspective, who gives a S%^t what Kellerman thinks(that's for his ESPN show) I want to hear what the fighters think...

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
CC for the Promoter for sayin what i was trying to :D

Re: Lampley and Kellerman are worthless
Steward couldn't seem to make up his mind. He said in the 4th round that Castillo looked old in the 1st round, but never said that in the 1st round to begin with, lol. He said Ricky did a "good" job, but at the very end he was singing Ricky's praises, and saying he definately made him a believer. How can you be a believer in someone you just said looked "good" against an old, shot geezer?? Make up your mind. I already gave my opinion on that creepy, bug eyed Kellerman fake. He looked more interested in interviewing Castillo when Jose reached out to shake hands with Ricky, then he did actually interviewing Ricky himself. Really actually seemed to be talking down to Ricky in that interview, with those bulging eyes and that sarcastic lopsided grin of his. I was hoping Ricky would punch him in his pimply face. I like Manny, but all in all, it was like watching the 3 stooges running around not nowing what to do.
