not saying he puts on one last great fight and wins, it is pos..
but he wont retire if he wins, he'll fight JMM again.
Its a possibility that he might have one more if he wins. I hope he doesnt though. He has nothing to prove by fighting Marquez again.
Im happy to see some of the old Barrera faithful standing by their words in this thread. Barrera is being underestimated again, and it isnt the first time this has happened as we all know. Pac is being placed on a pedestal despite not looking all that hot last time out. Barrera "lost" in a close fight to a fighter readily making the top 10 pound for pound on many a list. Barrera still has it and the Marquez fight shows it.
A Pac rematch will NOT be a blow out in 6 as Ive heard suggested on this thread. No way.
It will be a close fight, but with the right preparation and homework then Barrera can take the decision.
Barrera has done it before, he can do it again....surprise the lot of you!

Still, Barrera has pulled the rabbit out of the hat many times before so I'm still going to be cautiously optimistic about this from the Barrera standpoint.
I will politely disagree, Amat! ;)
Barrera isnt stupid. He doesnt want to get beaten up as a final fare well! He believes he can win. I believe so too...
Pac has fooled many by the early stoppage of Morales..
That was not the Moralesthat most know...
so you totally forgot the fact that pac whopped mabs a*** before?
the heart of a fighting champion is there but i doubt if mab's body can still pull it off.
I havent forgotten anything. Yes, Pac stopped Barrera, but lightning seldom strikes in the same place twice. :)
in boxing yes it does! does EMvPAC 2 and 3 ring a bell?
but i would prefer PAC vs JMM, jmm is the only guy who almost stopped pac. a decisive win over jmm will help pac alot as one of the best boxer p4p.
I think the 2nd and 3rd fights were completely different showings. No lightning for me.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
I think Pac will win this by KO pretty quickly as well, I hope MAB can pull out yet another great performance though. What a great run of matches we've had this year.
When I first read this I thought the fight was still happening in Vancouver, for a fleeting moment I entertained the thought of seeing this ringside. Oh well.

I am a little confused as to how I should feel and the possible outcome. Is possible that Pac comes out flat and underestimates MAB. MAB was guilty of this very occurrence ( + camp distractions) and Pac mopped the floor with him. The bad thing is that this fight has been too long in the plans and MAB has declined somewhat while Pac has matured and grown into his new weight class.
This long delay spells only financial rewards for Pac a win = nothing more than a win against a washed up boxer
loss = loss to an old aged boxer
MAB win = See Pac is not the greatest, MAB is..
loss = washed up
Pac can only win financially or if he loses in great fashion forcing a trilogy. I like MAB but not at the expense of making Soto, JMM and Guzman wait until 2008 & 2009 or Pac next contractual/ managerial mess up (kidding)
As a fan, the best I can hope for is a very entertaining fight unlike the 1st that was favorably exciting for only one boxers fans. So I hope bot parties are focused and that I do not have to read posts littered with excuses for the loss from losers legion of fans. If a focused PAC and a focused MAB enter the ring we will all see what the 1st fight failed to offer. The question is MAB's boxing time line .. ( I hope time has not ripped us fans off)

I've read this report alot. What confuses me though is I thought Pac-Soto was signed sealed and ready to be delivered on October 6th. How the hell did he get out of that contract?

How about Soto though? Seems a lot were giving him a better chance then are giving Barrera, though MAB is a much bigger name and will make a bigger card.
No gonna lie I've only seen Soto-Bobby Pac so I can't judge.
Barrera has not looked himself. Lose to JMM understandable but two close fights vs Juarez is a bad sign. I thought Juarez should've lost to up-and-comer Hernandez.
Mab is pretty worn out, add another KO to Pac's record.

Pacquiao won't take Barrera too lightly. http://www.mb.com.ph/SPRT2007070296966.html
And I agree. Pac must do the same preparation when he beat Morales.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
who is it really going to be??????????????
there has been so many announce names for pac to fight, which one is real???????
I'm been busy and away from the forum for a while, now i see pac and mab is getting hyped up?????? for what cause?????? is it really going to happen or is it just another name thrown out there????? for pac to fight.
I want mab to go out a winner, if he fights pac his not gonna go out like that. unless he fights again after the rematch.
this is all about the $$$$$$$$$$$ between gbp and top rank. beating mab once set pac up to stardom, beating him again gets him nothing.
pac needs to fight jmm guzman then valero or soto. not mab!!!
I'm starting to think pac is losing interest in boxing, i can't blame him. His already set for life, but I will just enjoy this era of pacman ;) still can't see anyone beating him so yea I sure will enjoy him whooping asses.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
Pac will not fold up Barrera the way he did morales in the third fight.
Barrera is smarter and not as worn out as morales.
I say Barrera makes it interesting with boxing and countering but in the end loses a decision or a late KO. this fight might be very similiar to the first fight.
God I hope I'm wrong

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
Bad fight for MAB and Manny will not get much credit if he wins either. People will say he beat another washed up fighter,I'm guessing the $$$$ were to big to ignore.
I've said it before,I'll say it again,Manny's style is a nightmare for MAB. Manny is far too relentless and even though MAB had a really bad time prior to their original meeting,I atill doubt he would have been able to handle Manny's pressure and the Pacman has added a very decent right hook and more feints to his already blistering arsenal.
Manny will win,I say by stoppage in the 7th round. MAB does not have the fire to go to war nor the elusive style to avoid Manny for the entirety of the contest.

I love when people try to discredit MAB for his fights against Juarez. Juarez was one of the best young prospects in the business when he fought Marco...a young fighter with a tremendous punch. And please don't forget...in the first Juarez fight....Marco had been preparing to fight Chavez at 135. Chavez injured himself...and Marco had to get up to fight Juarez instead. He toughed that first Juarez fight out....showed he still can gut out a fight. In the second Juarez fight....Barrera put on a boxing clinic. Dancing. jabbing, and controlling the fight like a fighter many years younger. Juarez was completely surprised and couldn't adjust....so MAB won easy. People need to give Marco a WHOLE lot more credit for that fight. And then Marco fought Marquez in a great match. People need to give Barrera his major props...the man is ending his career taking no easy route. Pac on the other hand has fought a shot Morales and some nobodies in his recent fights. Again...Pac will deservedly be the favorite in this rematch....but Marco is going to give a battle....and anything short of a completely focused and prepared Pac (and he always seems to have a million distractions in his life)....could find himself in serious trouble.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
The day before my birthday ;D
I think this will be a very competative fight and i hope to hell that is another good fight for boxing.
Im going with manny pac by stoppage i think, i think hes just too much for Barrera at the late stage of his carrer. But you never no with Barrrea hes so strong and such a composed fighter and this might get him through! I think there is no way he will stop pacquiao so he will have to bank on a decision. But i think manny has the tools to beat him by stoppage and decision and i think manny is on a mission to prove hes the best at the weight devision.
lets hope its a cracker, but im sure it will be manny pac on a late stoppage.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
Wow! Everyone is counting Barrera out...including his own country men. This will just give him extra motivation. For all of Pac's tremendous athleticism...he ultimately knows how to fight only one way. People can sugar coat his technical flaws all they want...but if for whatever reason his plan A doesn't work against Marco....does he have a plan B to fall back on? We all know Marco can fight numerous different ways. Knowing this is his last fight he will be in tremendous shape and will have a game plan. Most people think Manny's pressure will be too much. But as Marquez proved in his fight with Pac...if you can withstand the initial surge...a technically superior fighter can out box Manny. For all the talk that Manny is the Mexican killer: he lost his first match with Morales and then defeated a shot Eric in their next two bouts. He had a draw against Marquez. And he of course had a big win over a distracted and unprepared Marco in their first fight. Not trying to discount Pac...he is an exciting, dynamic fighter who is a handful for anyone...but he is not unbeatable and still has enough flaws to be exposed by an intelligent and skilled fighter. Should be a great fight!

Pac did lots of improvements since 2003. And you're right, EM and JMM taught Pac some lessons... and lesson learned for him and he keeps improving. All pacfans should also look at it in positive way.
Pac was a one-handed wrecking ball when he defeated MAB. Now he's a two-fisted Pacmonster. He can also do the cha-cha too, and what I meant by that is... he can fight forward, laterals, and backward with hard punches and blistering speed.

While i agree with you that Pac has certainly improved since the first Barrera fight...he still has big flaws in his style. I strongly disagree that he can fight backwards...i think this is one area where he is the weakest. He also tends to lounge on his punches and is often off balance. He is a tremendous athlete...so he often can get away with his technical flaws. But he ultimately knows how to fight one way....coming forward with pressure. Listen...i by no means am hating on Pac...i think he is an exciting fighter. All i am saying is that Barrera was no where near his best in that first fight. And sure...Marco hasn't gotten any younger....but he is still a tremendous boxer who can fight multiple styles. Pac deserves to be the favorite....i just think he will have a hell of a harder fight against Barrera than people are expecting.

Pac KD Morales while fighting backwards with the left hook, Pac got even pressed against the rope when that happened. Then Pac rocked him with his right hook while again fighting backward followed up by barrage of punches that resulted the 2nd KD.
The thing is, EM's team thought Pac couldn't fight backwards. That was their strategy... knowing that EM can no longer fight full 12 rounds so they also pressured Pac in early rounds and hopinglly KO him. Obviously that didn't work.
Watch this slowmo footage and you'll see what I'm talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvHXlWLFm3s
But I do agree with you that Pac is NOT a flawless fighter but he's only 28 and will still get better.

Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
No disrespect...but Morales was a completely shot fighter in their third fight. He had zero energy and was a shell of the fighter he used to be. So while i give Pac some credit for finishing him...a knockdown against a spiritless and weight drained Eric doesn't show me that Pac can fight going backwards.

Well,... a shot Morales or not, spiritless or full of spirited,... Pac already proved that he CAN fight backwards and has the ability to score a KD while doing it so - no matter which opponent.
-
Re: Pacquiao Barrera II October 6th
The Morales of the 3rd fight was a shadow of what he had been before. Morales has such pride and as such gets drawn into wars easily. A shadow loses easily in a war and that is what Morales now is.
Barrera just fought as competively as one can do against Marquez without getting a knockdown scored. This is no shot Barrera. He did better than Pac against Marquez IMO...
He can still hang at the top. Barrera can and will fight for 12. Pac has been picking on left overs for a while now. Barrera can still impress. Im surprised he is being written off by so many.
Its a pick 'em and if Barrera is hungry enough then he can take it....

Have you ever heard of the use of a metaphor?! ::**
I know we are talking boxing. Do you think im talking about figure skating or something? When I am on this forum I am talking boxing. I am not actually referring to the weather as such.
Barrera will be the toughest opponent Pac has faced for a long time. Dont be so sure of an easy victory. Barrera will mix it up and with it being his last fight you can be sure he will try to catch Pac off balance as he often is with a few perfect counters.
It could be a fight to put MAB up there with the rest of the greats...

imo barrera is up there with all the greats now, no question about it.
But i dont think he should be taking this fight, he is shot, has no will to get involded in anythign messy anymore, just wnats to box his way to a win, and pac wont let him do that - ofc anything can happen in boxing and i pray barrera can pull it out one last time. apart form the jones fights barrera has never lost two ina row, and if he had a shakey fight he came back and won decisivley, so maybe yeah that is a small reaosn why you can't cound him out... but i just dont see the fire in him anymore to get this job...

Its his final fight. He wants to take it. No better judge than himself.
Barrera is not shot. He got messy against Marquez and scored a knockdown that wasnt scored. Thats not shot. I think he beat Marquez. And many consider Maquez to be the main threat to Pac.
If Marco felt it was not there then he would quit now. The Marquez fight answered the questions...

pac fought a shot morales? i remember barrera considering retirement after he lost the first fight with manny, then he started winning fights again and he wasn't shot after all. i hope you wouldn't say that after pac beats barrera again... oh, of course you will. and what if erik starts winning again? nah, imo erik isn't shot. he's just has outgrown the 130lb-division and wasn't motivated against raheem.

pac fought a shot morales? i remember barrera considering retirement after he lost the first fight with manny, then he started winning fights again and he wasn't shot after all. i hope you wouldn't say that after pac beats barrera again... oh, of course you will. and what if erik starts winning again? nah, imo erik isn't shot. he's just has outgrown the 130lb-division and wasn't motivated against raheem.
Erik getting stopped in 3 is not shot?! ::**
You obviously follow a cetain path! ;)

Pac on the other hand has fought a shot Morales and some nobodies in his recent fights. he was weight drained and he chose to slug it out with manny. it was either him or the pac.

He can still hang at the top. Barrera can and will fight for 12. Pac has been picking on left overs for a while now. Barrera can still impress. Im surprised he is being written off by so many.
Its a pick 'em and if Barrera is hungry enough then he can take it....
I agree that MAB is NOT a shot fighter. Most people saw that when he KD Marquez.
I just hope people (like you miles) who believes that MAB is NOT a shot fighter would give Pac some credits if he beats MAB for the 2nd time.
I will hate to hear "Pac beat up another shot fighter".

If MAB gets stopped in 3 or less, then would that make him automatically a shot fighter too? ??? ::**

Of course I would give Pac his credit especially so if he was to beat Barrera convincingly. Morales did have serious issues losing that weight. And was on a losing streak when faced against Pac for the the final fight. Hindsight does indeed suggest a steep slide if not indeed being on the way to being shot.
Barrera has just come off a close fight with Marquez. If the knockdown had been ruled correctly I had Barrera winning somewhat convincingly. Barrera is not shot and is able to adapt his gameplan at the top level.
A Pac fight will be close. I dont know why so many are opposed to this fight. If Larios or Solis were worthy of fights then Barrera is actually a step back up and with it being Barrera's last fight then nobody should deny him going out the way he wants.

many are opposed to this fight cos there are worthier opponents for manny at this point. pac has nothing more to prove against barrera since manny got his number and i don't see what mab could do differently especially now that he's starting to slide and manny on the other hand has improved from their first meeting. solis and larios were just tune-up matches. bring us jmm-pac, guzman or valero-pac. even soto is a more interesting match-up for manny.
i agree with julius rain that this fight is about the money for gbp and toprank. in a way manny owes barrera this fight for giving him the opportunity to be placed on the boxing map. marco deserves a big payday going into his retirement and what better way than a chance to avenge the worst loss of his career and i wouldn't discount that he still has the ability to do exactly that because in boxing one punch could turn the tide of a fight.

he was weight drained and he chose to slug it out with manny. it was either him or the pac.
He was weight drained, boxing drained and guts drained a fraction of the EM of old. He was nothing more than a paid employee and has nothing left. In his next fight you will see just that and of course all the Pac huggers will say Pac caused it rather than the accumulation of wars he was involved in. Where does it leave PAC if EM stinks up the place again ? Well obvious to all boxing fans except PAC fanatics.
he chose to slug slug it out with PAC ?....EM was never a KO artist he basically had nothing & was falling all over the ring even before Pac tagged him. He was neither fighting inside or outside. He had no strategy cuz he had no physical condition to go to war. EM basically quit to save his old ass from getting pummeled. Coming off his losses he had no business being in the ring and if were not all about money or involved a lesser known boxer he would not have been given the honor to fight and earn such a payday.
