Sad part about that is I don't doubt you actually mean that. If Robinson was American or Mexican you would of said he was garbage (which he actually was). But since he was from the UK he was great. You should be stripped of your Mod duties for that.

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Now your overstepping the mark. Where a fighter comes from has no bearing on my rating of them, your a pathetic individual VD, dont judge others by your own standards.

I believe you there, but I noticed posters like to punish other fighters for history. Just because they don't recognize a name on the guys resume doesn't mean the guy wasn't recognized at the time or that he wasn't in a league at the time or in the running.
Thats why people who followed boxing at the time when those fights happened give credit where credit is due.
But the "record warriors" as i call them, just go look at the record of the guy don't recognize anything and say "Oh he's a bum" and its absolutely (insert degrading word here)

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Watch the Barrera fight. Barrera hardly landed until the last 3 rounds and even then he didn't really land an enormous amount. Hamed gave away that fight by showing off and not throwing combos or enough punches. His workrate was sh!t. Barrera did not dominate.

You dont think Barrera dominated?

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Heres me input...
Hamed was well on his way to being elite but he tripped and fell never to get up again. So IMO hes not elite.
Robinson let's be real here 'elite' fits him waaaay to big.
But there is no doub that Robinson was not a bum he was in top 3 Feathers of the world at that time as someone mentioned before. If me memory serves me right Johnson was #1 and Kelley was #2 with Robinson at #3 and Rojas at #4 in the world followe by Medina and possibly Gainer....

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
I think the word elite tends to scramble peoples brains a little. Its a relative term, he was elite for the time. The best ten fighters in the division are the elite. Robinson was part of that group no question, the top half too.

Your post reminds me of what I've been saying for a while now and I also typed this up on a Monzon thread.

It's not peoples faults I understand but some people come around here and just go look at the fighters record and try to pass judgement on these old school fighters like they've seen their fights or have any idea of who they're opponents were during that day in time.
People just don't know how highly regarded opponents were back then.

Yeah! I think when you typed elite people took it like hes elite/all-time but yes you are right.
Robinson was elite at that moment in time.
And he was most def. top 3 an arguement could have been made between he and Kelley for the #2 spot.

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Anyone who thinks Barrera didn't DOMINATE Hamed needs to get their head checked. Dominating doesn't always mean knocking out or hurting your opponent. Barrera put on a master class of boxing that night. Marco showed he was the SMARTER and more skilled fighter. Hamed for all of his flash and power...didn't sustain his career long enough to be considered a truly great fighter. But i will certainly give him credit for bringing excitement to the sport.

Oh I don't think I'm overstepping anything. Problem is I think I hit to close to the truth. Which is why your bothered. You bash American fighters as much as anybody. But won't do the same to British fighters. Any negative comment directed at Hatton, Calzaghe or Con is considered British bashing. I see a double standard.

I'm in no way sticking up for Memphis as he is capable of fighting his own corner, but.......
In the last few weeks I have noticed your comments about the British fighters you mention (Hatton, Calzaghe etc) are really over the top and rude. It's like you go out of your way to reply to any thread involving them only to mock them and discredit them.
That's the impression I get when I read your posts lately. Maybe I just never noticed before.

Re: Just watching Hamed against Robinson............
Great thread, CC Bilbo I agree 100%.
When you are viewed as arrogant, you earn yourself a lot of haters who are just waiting for you to fail. The Prince was bested by an incredible fighter in MAB, a living legend, and all of the haters jumped on the "he was overrated, MAB exposed him" answer.
The Prince had incredible physical tools and was clearly a virtuoso performer. Of course unlike other virtuosos like Roy Jones, FLoyd Mayweather, Sweet Pea, ect, Hamed did have some big flaws in his game. But IMO that was the great thing about his fights. When you see Sweet Pea and Roy Jones fight in their prime, they are so technically sound and superior to their opponents they very rarely find themselves in a position of danger. But with the Prince, knowing that he has some large flaws and that he has been caught and knocked down several times before, watching him do his fancy moves is like watching a tightrope walker working without the safety net.
There will never be another Prince Naseem. You cannot teach someone the kind of charisma and showmanship that the Prince had. You can't put that kind of star quality in someone. How rare is it to find someone with the physical tools and skills of a superstar with a personality and showmanship to match? Guys like that don't come along very often...

Your right. Let Memphis fight his own. You see I gave Hatton credit for his recent win. And I always considered Calzaghe a very skillful fighter. But I don't suck on them like other posters on this site do. I got no problem pointing out that Hatton's 2 biggest win were against fighters no longer in there prime. And that Calzaghe has faced nothing but bums. There groupies hate that. Not my problem.

I think thats the trouble VD, you see what you want to see and nothing else matters. Just like when you went piling into the 'Floyd must come down to 140' thread like a bull at a gate. Never mind the fact that the article was bogus, you and many others didnt let that get in the way of a bit of mindless shit slinging.
Amirs getting his fair share of knocks, nothing wrong with that. Just because Im in the minority who hasnt written him off completely that makes me a groupie ;D When Kelson Pinto was being called a chicken shit coward were you a groupie for saying actually he had a fever? I wouldnt have thought so.
As soon as Calzaghe Kessler was signed you didn't praise Calzaghe for being prepared to go to Denmark for the fight, you couldnt bring yourself to be pleased that the best fight at the weight was being made, you wanted to whinge about Kessler potentially getting turned over by the judges. You've even taken the opportunity to have a dig at Calzaghe in the Jones Hanshaw thread.
P.S If I bash american fighters just as much as anyone else that either means that the board as a whole hates American fighters or my criticism of any American fighters is pretty balanced.
If you care to name any that I make an extra effort to stick it to please go ahead.
