Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
Wow De Leon got a KO in round 1 :o
Thanks god he won, that was the ONLY fighter of mine who won this week, what a crock of fucking shit, and I went on points for him so only 4 points for an entire weekend :-X
Ghonzalez must have the worst jaw of any world championship level fighter.
I reckon De Leon just moved to number 1 in the division, he;d smoke Marquez and Vazquez.

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!

Fair enough, maybe I should have said resistance to pain. He's thrown away two big wins over top fighters now because he collapses as soon as he's hit.

No dude. I wouldn't rank it like that. RB was not even in the same level with Marquez and Vazquez.

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
experience overcame both gonzalez and boom boom tonight.
good wins for penalosa and de leon.
-
Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
i agree RB is so young and ponce is obviously the better of the two. but i was so happy for peƱalosa for earning the belt the hard way after what ten years? MABUHAY PILIPINAS!! woop woop!

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
Is Michael Katsidis part pinoy? ;D
I heard he was in every P.I. entourage. Gave his full support for team P.I.
That was cool of him.

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
First and foremost thanks to Sweetpea for doing the RBR. You did a great job,CC on me. Everyone else should CC him too,he didn't have to do it but he did so thanks. Also,a note to the mods, could you please sticky this! It should have been stickied whilst he as posting it.
Sounded like a great world cup and I think it confirmed my suspicion, that Jhonny Gonzalez is a good fighter but will never truly be a great. Penelosa is no murderous puncher and Gonzalez got KTFO. He's been down many times before too,I think he has poor punch resistance. Congrats to Gerry, a true warrior and very very under rated.
As for Ponce,he went back to what he is best at,throwing head shots, sitting down on his punches and going for the KO. I know head hunting, throwing haymakers etc is usually seen as a bad thing but this guy is so unconventional that it suits his style. The volume punching against Gerry was woeful,he should just stick to his bombs. As for Rey,he's a good fighter but is way too open. He has alot of work to do,I just hope he recovers.
I have yet to see any other fights but it sounded like a great night!

bOom boom got so confident. but de leon proved he can deliver when needed eventhough there was no chance Mexico can win over the cup from the Philippines.

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
Ponce De Leon looked good but he seems to look bad whenever someone can take his punches. Didn't the guy who just fought on shobox beat him?

Have we figured out exactly how many fighters Freddie Roach trains? I think the number is approximately 17,248.
lennox is a good fighter, but please somebody take the mic away from him and knock him out with it. people are already falling on their knees and hes still doing his analysis.

Gonzalez worst jaw ever?
Firstly it was a liver shot while he was fully extended, anyone would have crumbled from that, you can't breath after that I don't care who you are.
The other fight where you could make your claim is against Vazquez, where he had already knocked Vazquez down twice and he was gassed, which is why he was starting slower in this fight.
Bilbo you are talking out of your ass..............

I wouldn't say he got so confident. If you watch RB before the bell rang, he looked very nervous. Knowing all of his fellow boxers won their fights, the hope for the sweep was in his hands. I think that was just too much for him to handle. He's still green. Rey, your time will come brother!

Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
I HATE people that run for most of the fight! I was hoping that Gonzalez was going to get caught with a good shot and BANG! He did. ;D I love watching people get knocked out of their senses but there's nothing better than a good body shot. I was pulling for Penalosa the whole fight but I did think he was getting whooped the second half of the fight though.
I'm a filipino/american who was raised watching boxing since i was 4 and I'm so happy the Philippines are effectively involved in the sport! With that said, Bautista got ROCKED! I didn't find him that impressive on the De La Hoya/Mayweather undercard and when i saw how De Leon came out of his corner dropping bombs, i immidiately thought, "oh boy! short night!"
-
Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
Gerry went "liver hunting" through out the night. ;D
-
Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
:drunks: :drunks: we are the champions! go philippines!

That was a perfect body shot that was very difficult to anticipate. Penalosa, I believe got "lucky" with that punch.
-
Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
yeah he did got lucky, gerry said so himself on the news. but he was looking for that body shot the whole night he and roach planned it way before the first round started.
-
Re: HBO: Mexico vs. Philippines RBR!
Nonesense, there's no such thing as "lucky punch" in boxing. You suppose to protect yourself at all times. A good boxer knows that if you get hit cleanly in the liver, kidney, and in the chin with a strong punch,... it's over, you're fwocked!
Both Rey Bautista and Jhonny Gonzalez got viciously tagged by left hands. That's like a full blast impact coming from southpaw fighters.

sinuwerte nga raw sya! but ill say it again he was liver hunting the whole night, roach and gerry both new that it was his ticket to win.

Mas matatawag kung swerte ang pagkapanalo ni Ulyses Solis kay Rodel Mayol. Kse overhand wild looping right hand ang tumama kay Mayol. Tyamba yun parekoy!

Luckily for you guys, I speak multiple languages and can translate this. It says:
"Pacquiao is so good and so strong that he could have KO'd Solis and Mayol at the same time with only one arm. He'd beat prime Tyson also!"

Nyahaha! You're close. Your translation would've been perfect if you said Valuev instead of Tyson. ;D

Nice try bro but way off the mark (still give you props for trying). . .
The actual translation is: Pac (maybe referring to Pacstaright), i think the win of Solis versus Rodel mayol was a lucky win. Because it was an overhand looping right that hit Mayol. Very Tyson like if I made add bro. . .
