Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
1) He didn't start as a joke but he has become one....and honestly he's tried really hard to do it
2) Well what would you call: Griffis, Montana, Salif, Wheeler, Gutierez and Hawkins???
3) Power punchers don't last....especially the short ones. Foreman, Lewis, and Shavers are the only power punchers that had a long career at heavyweight. Mike Tyson was built for speed and his speed was very important to his power and he got old plain and simple. David Tua wasn't exceptionally fast to begin with so age is not going to do him any favors.
4) Briggs is perfect for him, he's big easy to hit, doesn't fight back, and I'd love to see Shannon knocked the funk out
5) I can understand that but Holyfield was never known for his punching power (oddly enough) and he's also not known for his defense either....I just fear for his safety.
6) CC man, you're mighty good to debate with, it's fun to not have to resort to name calling and sarcasm
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
Yup CC back man,
1) I still cant stand by a statement dubbing a fighter who just won a fight with a double hook Ko, being called a joke, i feel he still has potential, and to answer the thread title yes i take him seriously.
2) I wouldn't call them bums. I may call them 2nd tier fighters or Journey men fighters, but they are still fighters This time Two years ago Carlos Baldomir was in the same situation, remember.
3) You are spot on here, i cant argue with this point...but il try anyway damn it! A boxers power is the last thing to go!
4) But would Briggs take the fight???
5) HaHa at last we seem to be agreeing, i was worried for his safety too, but i gotta admire his passion and since his comeback he seems to be well capable of taking care of himself in there.
6) No!!!! Sarcasm is cool and name calling is fun >:mad!!!
Jus kiddin man i not gettin that carried away with the debate thing...yet
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
The first thing to go with a fighter is his Psyhcodinamics then his fitness limiting the ability to think under stress. David Tua has lost niether, rumour has it hes on top of his game. Find out how many good managers fancy the job of putting there fighter in with him bet its not a long list.
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
...A rematch vs John Ruiz would be good too
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
I think Tua is just fighting from memory. His best days were 8-9 years ago and he is just hoping for one more title shot against anyone who can get him a payday, probably to pay off his lawyer bills from those lawsuits involving his promoters and managers that sidelined him these last couple of years.

That’s the past! the future is looking bright. . David now has some good people around him.. Of course Roger Bloodworth his trainer . , a great promoter and adviser in Cedric Cushner , accompanied with great fan support. . I think the fight fan will be pleasantly surprised with Tua as he marches forward .
I am a bit taken aback … Would have thought more boxing fans here at Saddo's would be amped about Tua’s march to a HW Championship. Hopefully they soon will be. O0

Great post LORDS. Very succinctly sums up the past couple of years of Tua's career. I for one applaud him for taking a slow road back to contendership. I'm sure he could have come back and fought for a title almost straight away however, that probably would have been disastrous for his career.
I for one can't wait until he's fully back on track. Heavy hands, great chin, what's not to love about the very idea of a comeback?
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
Considering the dearth of talent and the absence of a supremely gifted pure boxer, the type that can make Tua appear pedestrian, then yes we must take him seriously. With his natural power and solid chin he could still be a major player in the division.
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
He is staying busy at least now. He is scheduled to fight Sept 7. Probably another tomato can...If he keeps at 237-ish like his last fight, he should be a force. I would like to see him in a title fight again.
Re: Are We Supposed To Take Tua Seriously?????
i think tua is still a force. he is the only fighter where lennox lewis fought at a distance even for his size advantage over tua. i think hes doing good by taking the slow road to the top. hes taking his time, getting his experience back and hes making money along the way. at least he's fighting like the tua we always knew.
