Why would he whine about his success, he's easily the most respected and revered boxer to ever live. You could make a strong case that he was helped along to not match that record
And yet to this day some people talk with more reverence about Ernie Shavers and Ken Norton then Holmes

Holmes looked to be a sound fighter with a mean up jab. He would rock a an opponent with his jab. then take them to bed with the right hand. Holmes held the Title for many years,. thats to be respected ! O0

Holmes should definitely be in anyones top ten heavies listing and only lost as age got the better of him,
his fight with Norton is a classic and he lost two dubious decisions to Spinks.
He was the real HW champ for seven years, had one of the best left Jabs in HW history and must be given the credit due to him.
