Floyd is a different kind of fighter.
I hate to say it…but Hatton is like a circle. There are no angles & questions that can be raised in comparison.
The main thing that most fans & Floyd haters lean towards as an advantage is Hatton’s pressure & force.
I don’t buy it. Stronger doesn’t always add up to better & it’s surely proven ineffective against Floyd.
Floyd stood up to bigger men & he’s also faced power & speed & while Floyd has benefited from the moves up in weight…Hatton has not. Hatton moved up to face Collazo & stalled like a broke down sports car. He then dropped down to face Urango & sputtered there also.
Floyd has moved up, kept his speed, & also gained in the power department.
I think Hatton fans are going to be in for a rude awakening…but as a Floyd fan…I think that it should be noted that we will too.
While I don't feel that pressure from a brawler is the key to defeating Floyd...I do think that there are going to be scares.
Maybe if Hatton can catch Floyd (& he will) & keep Floyd he'll have a shot...but I'm hoping for another clinic from Floyd along the lines of the Corrales or Gatti fight.
I think Mayweather will win comfortably but Gatti boxed from outside against someone of Mayweather's class is just asking for a beat down when Gatti is not even good technical boxer and Corrales just didn't do effective aggression now i think Hatton will be able to steal few rounds when he outworks Mayweather with his swarming style but Mayweather will stick that jab in his face and break Hatton up with them right hands Hatton fans argue the way to beat Mayweather is what Castillo done in first fight but Hatton fans seem to forget they had a rematch and Mayweather easily defeated Castillo and has improved since the Castillo fight.
I see Chavez go like a machine and try and swarm Mayweather and he couldn't even dent Mayweather in one round Chavez threw 96 punches and only landed like 6 in skill level Mayweather is way ahead against Hatton and i think Hattons only advantage is power and even his last outing at Welterweight he didn't seem to have the power or be able to bully his opponent people seem to think swarming is way to beat Mayweather i disagree Mayweather does never crack under the pressure of being swarmed and just picks you apart for being so wild and aggressive i think Hatton's only chance is to land rib breaking body shot other than i don't give Hatton much of a chance.
I do not think its so much swarming, and number of punches here.Just As the Castillio vs. Maywither Fight Thats Dismissed as an style example of floyd most potential threat Because It Was WAY Back In 02 ,the thinking being floyd has improved, matured, and grown .He beat Chavez TWO years earlier,So Are we to assume His ability to deal with pressure inside remains as GREAT.... You Know,Seeing As How It Was WAY back In 00'.
Chavez in no Hatton.I Am certain on a few thing:
Hatton will get busted early and as sharp as ever ButHe is not the club fighter people think...Nor is Mayweather the second coming of Robinson.

Hey ICE, tried to see Hatton winning in your head?
I keep looking at footage of Floyd for weakness in his game but I'm not getting anywhere. Seems to me....most of the small flaws in Floyds style are now fixed. You either have to be quicker or MUCH stronger to win. Only advantage I see for Rick at the moment is not having to make 140.......so training for a light welter bout and not having to worry about the weight may do him some good for a 12 round tear up.

I tried to look at it from Hatton's fan view aswell and frankly it didn't change my mind one bit Mayweather is facing nothing new to what he hasn't already faced Hatton is bringing nothing new to the table Mayweather has every advantage except power but like i said even Hatton's last outing at 147 his power didn't look all that much and Mayweather is no sissy hitter either he has good snap to his punches like i said Hatton's only chance is to land rib breaking body shot other than that i don't see what he brings different to what Castillo and Chavez didn't already try.

Could he ever make Floyd tired? I ain't sure these days, Rick aint looked like the 12 round force he used to before(and during)the Tszyu fight of late. I hope for a good fight.......the best man will win.
Could he ever make Floyd tired?
No i doubt it Mayweather is one the best conditioned boxers of all time he spars 15 rounds and does 10 minute rounds Mayweather is a gym rat.
Hatton does 15 rounds on the body bag with Billy and thats all offensive work. Hatton is also a gym rat (joke)
Hatton can do 100 rounds and it still won't help. Hatton ain't winning
Never said he was VD. Did I?
You didn't say it. But I know you were thinking it.
That's just silly to claim you can read my mind. Very silly.
I just did. Admit it. You were thinking it. Let's no resort to lying. Save what little dignity you still have.

This is what a boxing forum is for to debate on big fights past and present and to learn and debate with some good knowledgable posters nothing wrong in that you have to expect alot of threads on such a big fight like this one.

Re: 5 Reasons Why Ricky Hatton Can Beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.
So, after reading 4 pages of posts with some very convincing arguments, I have been left with no choice other than to believe Hatton has veeeeeeeeery slim to absolutely no chance of winning this fight. I had posted in a prior thread about how I thought this was a move in the right direction for floyd as far as stepping up his competition. Wow, how wrong I was. Apparently, floyd is only taking this fight because Ricky said some bad things about him. He wants to punish a guy who is obviously not in his league.
So when (or will) floyd make a step towards fighting someone who can challenge him? Should you be content with a career where guys only gave him some minor problems but he easily won because he was waaaaaaaaaay too good for them?

I'm guessing De La Hoya was just some journeyman.

And you have deduced that by reading the last 4 pages :-\
The same people probably gave him no chance against Tzsyu or Castillo ;)
That someone who happens to be way out of Floyds league is 43-0 with the repsective Ring Belt for his division. He is no mug. He is certainly no Baldomir or Gatti. He has a veeeeeeery big chance of winning this fight. ICB will point you to Chavez/Mayweather, fair enough, I'd be inclined to look at the first Castillo fight.
Either way, don't dismiss Hatton as having no chance. He has every chance.

I think Mayweather if anything could be a little lighter on his feet and stay on his toes a little more because he was caught flat footed a fetwtimes against Zab and against Oscar as well.
I agree he has been very flatfooted. I noticed that too, especially lately. He relies on his reflexes and handspeed and sort of abandoned his footwork. Could it be that maybe Mayweather is a little past his prime :-X
I don't think so... Roy Jones Jr. was a lot more flat footed at light heavyweight compared to when he was in middleweight or super middleweight. I think the weight makes it harder to move around, and I think he tries to plant his feet to hit harder. Also despite what people are saying I truly believe Mayweather has tried to stay his ground against Baldomir and he tried to tire Oscar out by letting Oscar try to hit him on the ropes. Mayweather still uses a very tight defence not just reflexes, and after watching Hopkins-Wright there is no reason MAyweather at his age with his endurance can't dance for 12 rounds if he has to. However I don't believe thats the case I think he fight in close to Hatton and he will beat Hatton to the punch unless Hatton starts holding him in which case I think Mayweather will fight on the outside and potshot Ricky.
Yeah but if Oscar continued to use his jab he would have won the fight. I dont think theres any question about that so basically Floyd didnt have an answer to Oscars gameplan till Oscar abandoned it. ?
Oscar Delahoya was a very seasoned veteran when he went in the ring with with Mayweather that night, having said that, if Oscar is smart enough to know that if his gameplan was so effective that Mayweather wouldn't have won the fight...... Delahoya wouldn't have abandoned it ;)
As for Hatton............
I think that he will have a much harder time adjusting to Floyd Mayweather's speed, power, technique, defense, etc. etc. than he did adjusting to Luis Collazos (which was a fight that Hatton won by a single point ;)) in Hatton's other fight at 147.
I can't be bothered reading 5 pages of tat soooo here we go.
ODH ran out of gas and that's the only time Floyd looked good in that fight. We don't expect Hatton to gas but he ain't not ODH. 8)

Like you just said Hatton is no Oscar the reason why Oscar had success was with the jab and he had the advantage at fighting at a comfortable weightclass where Mayweather had never fought at plus he had height advantage and reach advantage all the things i just mentioned Hatton does not have over Mayweather Hatton is shorter has much shorter reach and at his last outing at Welterweight didn't look that great and Hatton may not gas out but neither will Mayweather he trains just as hard as Hatton sparring 10 minute rounds Mayweather is a gym rat.

Just to add my 2cents lol...I don't care what anyone says ODH lost that fight for himself I would not really go and say Floyd beat him...for some reason Oscar was not active enough...just my opp

[/quote] Well Oscar has been known to be 50-50 in later stages of fights like Vargas and Quartey fights he finished strong in later stages but in the fights with Mosley and Tito fights he faded in later stages just like Mayweather fight Oscar's stamina seems to go up and down quite strange.

Re: 5 Reasons Why Ricky Hatton Can Beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.
This is a great topic with valid points from both sides....but everyone mayweather faces has 5 or more reasons why they can win...but they never do. I give hatton as big a chance as anyone else i guess.

Heh heh heh. That's 100% on the money right there.
Here's the thing...I'd love to see Floyd go down undefeated & retire out...& he could after wacking out Hatton...but when/if he does...it won't be enough. Everyone will say that he has to face Cotto, Mosley, or Oscar again to solidify his position as an all time great.
The minute that he steps in with one of those 3 they'll be cooking up 5 reasons why Floyd can't win against them.
Honestly...I'd be impressed if Floyd whooped Mosley due to the fact that I see Mosley as one of the best of my generation.
We shall see. If Cotto get's spanked by Mosley (& I am almost surely terrified that he will) then I'm pretty sure we'll see Mosley vs Mayweather in 2008 if Floyd breezes through Hatton.

Re: 5 Reasons Why Ricky Hatton Can Beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.
everybody mentions the castillo fight.
1) they had a rematch Floyd won without question
2) Floyd has improved 10 fold since the first Castillo match almost 7 years ago.
