After the 1st Erik-MAB fight Erik moved up to Feather and quickly got a shot at the WBC title. As we very well know Warrens got the WBO in their back pocket for Hamed to fight Erik and bring the WBO into a fight with Erik & the WBC title would have been a no, no. I don't think there was enough money Warren could have payed to have that OK'ed at that time. MAB stood at Super Bantam and I also think the loss took some effect on him, he got a gift from the WBO and kept the belt when Erik moved up in weight. MAB made some defenses and got some wins against OK opposition while Erik kicked some ass as a Feather by beating literally beating Kevin Kelly, Guty Espadas Jr. & Inji Chi. All top prominent fighters at that moment in time. While MAB beat (at Super Bantam) Luis Freitaz, Jose Valbuena & Jesus Salud. A lot of people forget that MAB moved up in weight to face Naz it takes a lot to move up in weight and for your 1st fight at a new weight fight for a title even more to face someone like Naz at that moment in time.
When you look at what both fighters did after their 1st meeting (Erik & MAB) I think it was pretty clear for Warren who was the weakest link. He thought it was MAB boy! was he wrong.
Naz wasn't even with Warren then. Interesting theory though ;)
Naz wasnt with Warren in 2000?
Cause that's what I'm talking about I'm talking about Naz vs. Morales in 2000.
If he wasn't then that's my mistake.... :(

There is one right answer, and it is this...
Back then in the first figh morales was the boxer, and barrera the fighter... after that fight, sure morales shot his mouth off about "fighting like a mexican"
Team hammed knew berrera won that fight like every other sane person who seen it, but there were certain berrera would fight naz not box, whilest morales would box him and expose him...
They beleievd naz would have the power to ko bareera if he tried to war him. Bareera boxed, naz got exposed for the fraud he was.
thats the one and only answer.

YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH HAMED , FINE JUST SAY IT :)
Ok. Well Barrera beat Naz, right? Junior Jones kicked the shit out of Barrera, right? Well Paul Ingle kicked the shit out of Junior Jones. So why didn't Paul Ingle beat Naz?
Why do I have to go away? I'm enjoying myself.
And no I don't love Hamed, he's not my type, too short.
;D Great response

Morales of course won the fight (the Fight of the Decade in my opinion) on a controversial decision. Many people thought Barrera deserved the win, although I've always felt the decision was correct and that Erik had earned the victory. (I thought Erik also won the 2nd fight with Barrera but that's besides the point).
So my question is... if Hamed wanted the winner, why did he fight Barrera instead of Morales??
1. Did he think that Barrera really won the fight, and therefore thought he deserved the shot? (I don't think this answer is the one.)
2. Did he think Morales was more dangerous than Barrera, and therefore chose the opponent who he thought would be easier to face? (More likely.)
3. Did he try to fight Morales, but a deal couldn't be worked out?
Does anyone know?
Hamed said he wanted to fight them both and that barrera was the first one he could strike a deal with so he fought him first. After the thrashing he received off barrera though i think he realized that he would have been in for the same treatment off Morales so he just faded into obscurity. ::**
The point is that in their prime Morales and Barrera were the 2nd and 3rd greatest featherweights of all time behind pepp, and Hamed was just not in the same league as them.
Re: Why did Hamed fight Barrera and not Morales?
Styles make fights.
People say Hamed has weakness when people apply effective aggressiveness, but people who did that ultimately ended up getting knocked out but the same can be said for miguel cotto but no one cares the struggles if the result is always a knock out when it comes to him, and nobody cared about when it happened to Gatti when the end result is the same.
Barerra's golden gameplan was staying away from the power hand and outboxing Naseem Hamed.
We can agree that Morales isn't as good a boxer as Barerra and he wouldnt follow through with that game plan. He would trade with Hamed and even if Hamed struggled even if people did push him back he always knocked him out.
The thing is people love to use "almost' with Hamed. As in someone "almost" did this, if they "could have" done this then he would have lost. But you can play that with all the boxers nowadays so it makes little difference, the fact is it didnt.
But it would have been an explosive fight
