Then how can you not know that Calzaghe was an IBF champion? You're slagging off the guy and making comments about how S*** he is yet you seem to know F*** all about a guy who is ranked in most p4p top 10's in the world.
Nobody cares about yesterdays snow, we are talking about the here and now. Top ten quite an achievement kind of like Gaylord Focker in Meet The Fockers
Here and Now Calzaghe is in 8 out of 10 pound for pound lists.
And today Calzaghe is an undefeated Champion preparing to fight for the Undiputed Super middleweight Championship of the world.
you don't arrive at that stage overnight by doing nothing!

Calzaghe is the longest reigning world title holder in history and is unbeaten pro or amauteur for 19 years.
In a weak era.
Thats Calzaghe's fault. Oh yeah...and he's such a nobody, thats he's the only fight Hopkins wants now. ::**
Nothing special about that, its only because Hopkins is an Ego maniac and wants to derail the guy who tied his record. Not to mention Nard is a huge windbag these days

Easy now. Hopkins & Calzaghe both can afford to be egomaniacal...Hops can afford to be a bit of a windbag too because he backs up what he talks.

Re: Whats all the hype about calzaghe????
Sorry to be a latecomer on this thread but what is with the thread title??
Calzaghe is nearly 36!!! Since when has hype been about a 36 year old?
Kessler is the hype here and its Kessler that needs to prove he's able to bring it to the long time champ.
You see some drivel sometimes...

Re: Whats all the hype about calzaghe????
magyar I'm giving you your first CC just because you've stood your ground in these sometimes very harsh boards.
I would also like to say that still no one has adressed the fact that you are 100% correct on most of what you have said. Some of you keep disecting his post and talking about whether or not he held the IBF belt... yeah I'm looking at you bzkfn, or whether or not he is the longest reigning champion in history. But all that crap don't matter.
Yes he is a very skilled boxer but the fact is that this is in fact hist first real test. For a fighter to be over 35 and been a champion for 10 years to meet his first test now is just plain ridiculous. Yes higned sight is 20/20. That means it is better than foresight. That means before, we didn't know but now we know. Jeff Lacy is and was a bumb.

Massive disagreement here.
Jeff Lacy is far from a bum.
Ask any fighter. How tough is it to get on the US Olympic team?
Ask anyone How tough is it to climb through professional rankings and gain a world title?
You no what the answer will be?
They don't no, very very few people no................Because it takes an exceptional boxer to make the US team and it takes a special boxer to fight his way to the ibf world title.

If you think this is Calzaghe's first real test then you are extremely misinformed.
You are either a) lacking a memory of the hype surrounding a number of Calzaghe's previous opponents b) too young to have followed Calzaghe's career or else C) pretty clueless
Take your pick

Re: Whats all the hype about calzaghe????
Tested?
Bika gave him a very rough night!
Robin Reid gave him a bitch of a fight.
Chris Eubank let loose and couldn't beat him.
And if i remember Salem fouled and roughed him up all night and koe still overcame.

He won the IBF title of LACY
As far as i know the IBF belongs to Berrio
It does now but Calzaghe won it of lacy and defended it against bika

What are you talking about? ::**
Calzaghe has been tested on a number of occasions and each time found a way to win. He has fought and beaten the latest hype for the last 10 years.
Beyond Hopkins and Jones who never even entered the radar while Calzaghe was at SMW there has been noone else worth fighting that he hasnt beaten. And again Calzaghe is fighting the latest big hype!!
Now dont talk to me about "getting it". What is there to get exactly???

I think he ment from a World class opponent Bika and Salem are far from world class and except for overhand right that Salem dropped Calzaghe with he had no real success except for being dirty and ditto for Bika.
Eubank was weight drained and past his best but fair play to Calzaghe because he was inexperienced and he dealt with smart experienced fighter like Eubank well.
And as for Reid i always thought Reid was step below World class he was outboxed by 40+ Sugar Boy Malinga shortly before Calzaghe fight but Calzaghe still done well but i thought the bout was a draw and if Reid wouldn't of had point deducted he would of won the fight on my card and also Calzaghe showed major weakness in Reid fight and it was that he couldn't stop right hands he was caught over and over again with right hands from Reid.

Have you JUST started watching boxing? Trivia...what two belts is he looking to add to his collection in his next fight? Has he already won the IBF title? Did politics force him to give the belt up?
the wba and wbc. i can remember darius michazelski holding three belts and having to give two up due to politicking by the alphabet soup boys. once a title is unified it should remain unified.

I'll send you a pm with the Reid vs Calzaghe fight.
And as for Eubank weight drained or not he wouldn't of won because he had been slipping for awhile infact the last time Eubank was in his prime was the 2nd fight with Michael Watson after that he was never the same.

Johnny Davis when he boxed joe louis for the world title had a 3-3-0 record finished with an impressive roster of won 5 (KO 2) + lost 21 (KO 19)

Yeah...Rookie Fan. Appropriate name.
You obviously are unfamiliar with the names that Calzaghe beat & who & what they were when Joe beat them.
Names like Viet, Mkrtchian, Jimenez, Sheika, Reid, or Eubanks were'nt walk overs & when Calzaghe dismantled them they were legit opposition. You can plow through any champion's record & pull out names of fighters that were meager opposition. Be that as it may Joe defended his title on his own turf like many other fighters do...the difference is that when someone is ragging on Joe that's one of the main arguements...but if they trying to defend other fighters...that's alright for them...but not Joe.
Joe has been tested many times over the last 10 years & to say Lacy was a bum just further proves that you either don't know what your'e talking about or your'e just trying to tear into Calzaghe.
Just because Joe blew through everyone he's faced doesn't make them bums.
You need to recognize that...the both of you.

Did you know Wacko that Jimenez went distance with Nigel Benn, Roberto Duran, Chris Eubank, and he even knocked down Roberto Duran plus Calzaghe was the first man to stop him ??

Reid was actually a hell of a fighter at the time that Joe beat him. I think he had lost once before that but he held the WBC or WBO belt & dended it 4 or 5 times prior to losing it to someone before he faced Joe.
Reid was a tuff nut to crack in his day & was pretty feared in his spot.
Many people underrate him...as they tend to do most of Calzaghe's opposition...either that or they offer up excuses to low rate him.
Kind of sad. No matter how many people Joe beats, no matter what he does, everyone's just waiting on him to lose.

Im just being honest Wacko and i agree Reid was tough but he was never World class imo i also thought he was step below World class a 40+ Sugar Boy Malinga outboxed Reid Clearly i give Calzaghe credit for the win it was one of Calzaghe's better wins but i thought the bout was a draw.

Nah babe...I think that you're talkin about Ferreyra...not Jimenez. Juan Carlos Gimenez Ferreyra are two different fighters. Ferreyra is the man that faced all those guys.
