Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
Let me copy and paste the outcome that I posted in another thread.
No way Kessler will lose this. It's his time. I'm even going to give you the scenario. Calzaghe takes round 1, which will pretty much be a feeling out round. After that Kessler's jab and right hand take over the fight. He takes round 2 and round 3 easily. He drops Calzaghe late in round 3. Calzaghe tries to fight back in round 4 and in the process breaks his hand. Kessler goes in for the kill and stops Calzaghe with about a minute left in round 4. Calzaghe groupies refuse to give Kessler any credit. Instead using the broken hand as an excuse.

Any word on how many tickets have been sold? Last thing I read was about a month ago, when they had sold about 30,000.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
I think it will be a great fight, and a close fight.
I'm still crossing my fingers both of them make it to the ring injury free.
just seeing the wacko's round by round: calzaghe-kessler makes me happy.
cc wack
i will go with calzaghe on a disputed decision, to many people hate cal for him to have a respected UD, but i hope one of them wins by a brutal KO...

I think both sides were right in the aftermath. Joe is really that good, but Lacy was somewhat overrateed. I mean, it was a freakin shutout, as dominating a performance as I can remember at that level.
So now Joe C is getting lots of love and he deserves every bit of it. He'll have the edge in speed, skill, and hometown advantage. How can you pick against him? Just a hunch that Joe will show his age just enough, and that Kessler will present him with a combination of strength, skill, and power that he hasn't had to face, ever. Kessler is better than Lacy. Way, way better than Lacy, and Calzaghe is older, and I just have a feeling. Kessler's jab and straight right will be much harder avoid than Lacy's idiotic, plodding advance. Joe is going to have to deal with a bigger man, with longer reach, an one of the best jabs in the business.
I can see Joe winning a close, legit decision, and I can see Joe getting away with a hometown robbery, but I can also see Kess stopping him, and I that's my prediction. The guard is changing.
The only was Kessler wins this fight is if Joe gets old.
Kessler for me is more over rated than Jeff Lacy. I have watched eight of Kesslers fights over the last two weeks and he is nothing special whatsoever, his power is way over rated, i dont even think he hits that hard. He wont be able to handle Calzaghe's in fighting. He just doesnt have the skills. Easy UD for Calzaghe imo.
The Calzaghe-nutshuggers has arrive ;D ;D

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
Below is HBO's poll that is currently running on their site.
Here's the link...& the results...what do you think?
The winner between Calzaghe and Kessler on November 3rd walks away the undisputed champ -- who's next?
Jermain Taylor 6%
Jones-Trinidad winner 18%
Bernard Hopkins 23%
Kelly Pavlik 49%
An Undefeated Contender: Carl Froch, Lucien Bute or Dennis Inkin 4%
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
I'd like to see Pavlik stick around 160 for awhile longer, but more and more it seems like he's getting pushed into moving up. There's a rematch with Taylor at a catchweight lingering around, and if that falls through, I bet HBO puts the pressure on to fight the Calzaghe/Kessler winner.
Let the man enjoy his title, and give him room to decide if he wants to defend at 160. There's still good work to be done there, and decent money.

I can only see either of them fighting Pavlik as a megafight ...the Jones-Trinidad winner, and Hopkins, don't really want anything to do with Calzaghe let alone a young guy like Kessler should he win.

Hopkins is on the record several times stating he wants to fight the winner.

I reckon Hopkins is the most likely of those to actually fight Calzaghe, cause he's all about the huge money fights these days. Pavlik will likely stay in middleweight for a while, and Bute wouldn't be a big enough name I think. Jones and Trinidad wouldn't be interested in getting an ass whupping, and I reckon Froch and Inkin wouldn't be big enough names either.

Hopkins is a shoe in for the winner Calzaghe fight.
;D
I totally disagree with HBO's results...or HBO's members.
I think that a Pavlik fight should not even be discussed...much less majority ruled on.
What kills me is that no one is giving RJJ or Tito a shot in hell if they were to get into the ring with Calzaghe (or Kessler) & I personally think that a RJJ match up would be fun to watch.
Not sure what cred it would bring to Joe (or Kessler) but it would be a fun fight none the less. Also...oddly enough...RJJ was being thrown around as a potential fight for Kess sometime last year...so you have to wonder if they aren't lookin in that direction.
Agreed that Bute, Froch, & Inkin aren't big enough names either.

Cannot wait for this fight! Should be awesome. I still think JC will win,I would not be surprised if Kess won. I'd like JC to win though, for his legacy. Kess can bounce back from a loss,I don't think JC would.

Now...here's where we might disagree...I'm not sure that Joe wants it the most...Kess seems pretty determined.
I hate the fact that both men have to lose. Actually...I'd love to see a hard fought draw.

Bring on the unification! I'm with you though - two guys willing to lay it all on the line like this, you hate to see one lose. Fighters with cojones like these two are what boxing's all about.

Can they give Hopkins the astronomical amount of money he wants to get in the ring with Calzaghe? I doubt it. Hopkins has never really wanted to fight him.
Plus the fight would have to happen in the States and I don't believe Calzaghe is bothered about fighting in the States even if he says different, so no fight.
Hope i'm wrong though. Ive always thought Calzaghe would muller Hopkins.. although have changed my mind of late :-\

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
Calzaghe UD...
I thought this could be a very close fight up untill today, Then i went to watch Joe train in his gym.
He is in, without a doubt THE BEST shape he has ever been in. He already has wicked abs on him, is speed is crazy, i mean i was just a few feet away from him watching him work the speed ball and it was crazy. His timing looks spot on. He isn't at his peak, but he looks alot younger than 35 put it that way. If kessler wins then fair fucking play to him, 'coz i was honestly shocked at how sharp and how focused Joe was today.
With all that said, this is still going to be one HELL if a tough fight, kessler is a very good boxer and is hungry as hell, he beleievs he can win, he would not of come to wales for the fight otherwise.
Ud for Joe in a tough hard fought, but comfertable win.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
I'm gonna call a close decision for Calzaghe in an extremely boring fight. I just do not see them two mending in an exciting fight for some reason. I picture Kessler walking towards Calzaghe all night long while landing occasional shots, Calzaghe lunging in, pitty pat flurrying and then tying Kessler up.
I want to get up for this fight, but have an uneasy feeling that this fight is gonna be like a double dose of nyquil. Kessler is controlled enough to not get wild and opening himself up and make Calzaghe look good, and Calzaghe will do everything in his power to prevent Kessler from settling into the fight.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
Gonna be a points decision for calzaghe i reckon. Although i admire kessler, i think it'll be a convincing win with joe performing to his best like the lacy fight

Joe by decision seems to be the leading vote in all 3 polls.
I hope Joe doesn't start dancing around the ring and get's on a bike. That would really disappoint me :(

I don't think he'll get on his bike as you say, but neither is he going to go and stand squarely in front of Kessler and trade until someone falls over. I think Calzaghe will go in and out lightning quick and pick Kessler off before getting out again. However, if he is well ahead and doing very well going into the last few rounds, I think he might get a rush of blood to the head and his ego will force him to try and KO Kessler, which could make for a tense finish.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
If Mikkel starts with a real jab and keeps using it, he will win. I can see him trying to KO Joe though and abandoning it. Then Joe will win.
If it turns into a sloppy fight, it is Joe's territory. It is funny, a good Jab would beat Joe down, but Joe fights in a way that it appears he is leaving himself wide open, his opponents get suckered then start winging for a knockout and Joe counters them.
I see huge limitations in both of them. Kessler reaches with the Jab and is begging to get nailed over top with a right hand, and Calzaghe is begging to get nailed with Jabs and punches down the pipe.

mate i can promise you one thing (even tho i would be more than happy to see joe do it) calzaghe will never dance and fight on his bike...
Kessler as you ur self said is flat fotted, and Joe if he moved with his foot work with make kessler look silly.
---------
I was up newbirdge this saturday - you often hear boxers or wrtiers say about fighters in their best shape... i swear down, Calzaghe is in te best shape he has eveyr been i, imean this guy has neevr been one to sport a 6 pac untill he drained down to the weigh in, he has abs now anyone would be proud of.. newbrdige is a very small gym, anyone who has seen ti will know what i mean, but if you havnt you would piss your sellf laughgin as you would never exppect anyone to train in this let alone 3 world champions...
but i stood back just covering the fight - but you had to see it, joe worked the bas 2 feet in front of me, moved around, passing me with a polite smile, humble as fuck... i swear i have never seen so much focuse in my life... i have said on here that kessler could win because joe is this and that... i take it all back now, if kessler wins then he is the fucking shit... Joe is 95% as good as he has ever been, no question he is in the best shape EVER, speed everything.. the only thign is the loss of power with hand trouble...
guys honestly i cant totaly explain it, i was standing back just watching on as he passed me from from his shadow boxing work to work the pads, he give me a polite smile but the eys, with a split seconed you could see that in the eyes there was nothing but 100% focus, i mean shit iw as scared to say anything - it was that stone cold look, the one to strike fear in you...
sure alot fo you are thining "yeah poor welsh boy going on about his hero" but there was a stone cold dead look in there...
i said all along this will be a tought and close, i still maintain it will be tough, close, no Joewill win without to much trouble...

Getting on his bike?
Doubtful.
The thing about Calzaghe that befuddles pretty much everyone that's ever climbed through the ropes & into the squared circle with him is the fact that he produces so many angles so quickly in such a small space...& that's the other factor...he turns the entire ring into a phone booth...& that's coming forward or allowing himself to be pushed onto the backfoot.
Joe's volume is going to be the key in this bout...that & Kessler's jab...but I don't think we'll see a lot of that infamous Kessler jab.
He's gonna have to create some serious distance to get his jab working against Joe. While both men have fought some tuff customers...they have solved the puzzles...but splitting hairs...comparing opposition...that's just silly. In Kessler's favor...comparing Joe to Siaca, Mundine, Beyer, or even Andrade is almost as ridiculous as comparing Kessler to Manfredo, Bika, Mkrtchian, or even Lacy. It sounds fun & almost holds a bit of water...but the pool's just not deep enough on either side to induldge a sink or swin option.
Sounding like a broken record at me own expense...neither man has faced the capabilities of the other.
So many variables can spin this fight on it's ear...& that's what makes this one of the most "high-noon" scenarios between the hunter & the hunted...the young lion bumping the old king from the pride. I want answers...prior to the bout!!! You got Joe's speed vs Kessler's power, Joe's experience vs Kessler's lack there of, Joe's angles vs Kessler's jab, & last but not least...Joe's age (which I might add has yet to show 'cept for the mitts) vs Kessler's youth.
Everyone wants to count Joe out...& those that don't agree with Calzaghe's chances or the fact that he is a champion, world class A+ fighter, & his name being tossed around as one of the best in the world are labled maliciously as being a smoke screen by his detractors.
All will be proven on Saturday night...& if Joe were to falter...this is one fan that will not win & cry. I will take my lumps as a Calzaghe fan & I will appalaude the other man in the ring...the true Unified World Champion of 168lbs & I will cheer for him sincerely...because from day one I have been on the Kessler boat...but with doubts...& he has don't nothing more than prove me wrong in my doubts.
Here is the one time that I want him to slide a bit.
Wacko wants a draw. Then a rematch with a Kessler win...then a rematch with a Calzaghe win.
That would be glorious. Of all the bouts that are coming up...I have to admit...being an American boxing fan...Calzaghe vs Kessler is the FOTY for me...& it could suck balls & I would still rate it based on the fact that both men are top notch in my book & both men are gentlemen.
We need more of these in boxing.
Much respect to them both.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
One thing I've been thinking of as this fight gets closer, Kessler's got a great jab, but Joe's a southpaw and that could make it difficult for Kessler to establish his jab effectively.
The closer this fight gets, the more I think that its Calzaghe's fight to lose, he's so unorthodox and quick, I don't Kessler has ever fought anyone remotely comparable to Calzaghe.

but tickets are suppose to pick up during the week....
its hard to say if they will hit 60,000, but i would be suprised if the match doesnt sell more than 50-55,000....
i am really split on this fight... i really dont have a favorite for this fight, it seems very even...
but i do believe they will give there all, and both realizes how important for their careers and legacies to not only win, but to win impressively ...
THIS WILL BE A WAR
calzaghe is not that much faster than kessler (kessler has very fast, accurate combos) and kessler is not that much more powerful than calzaghe(calzaghe has as high of KO% as kess as well as other powerful punchers) as all will see this saturday/sunday

mate i can promise you one thing (even tho i would be more than happy to see joe do it) calzaghe will never dance and fight on his bike...
Kessler as you ur self said is flat fotted, and Joe if he moved with his foot work with make kessler look silly.

I was up newbirdge this saturday - you often hear boxers or wrtiers say about fighters in their best shape... i swear down, Calzaghe is in te best shape he has eveyr been i, imean this guy has neevr been one to sport a 6 pac untill he drained down to the weigh in, he has abs now anyone would be proud of.. newbrdige is a very small gym, anyone who has seen ti will know what i mean, but if you havnt you would piss your sellf laughgin as you would never exppect anyone to train in this let alone 3 world champions...
but i stood back just covering the fight - but you had to see it, joe worked the bas 2 feet in front of me, moved around, passing me with a polite smile, humble as F***... i swear i have never seen so much focuse in my life... i have said on here that kessler could win because joe is this and that... i take it all back now, if kessler wins then he is the F****** S***... Joe is 95% as good as he has ever been, no question he is in the best shape EVER, speed everything.. the only thign is the loss of power with hand trouble...
guys honestly i cant totaly explain it, i was standing back just watching on as he passed me from from his shadow boxing work to work the pads, he give me a polite smile but the eys, with a split seconed you could see that in the eyes there was nothing but 100% focus, i mean S*** iw as scared to say anything - it was that stone cold look, the one to strike fear in you...
sure alot fo you are thining "yeah poor welsh boy going on about his hero" but there was a stone cold dead look in there...
i said all along this will be a tought and close, i still maintain it will be tough, close, no Joewill win without to much trouble...
Just curious, have you seen him training prior to other fights before for comparison?

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Calzaghe vs Kessler
I am actually excited for this fight, its been awhile (Lacy fight) since I've been anticipating a Calzaghe fight. This is his defining fight, my heart is pulling for Calzaghe but my head says Kessler. Im just going to enjoy this one and not be rooting for one over the other. I really wonder how much of a factor the crowd will be, Kessler may have to make it clear if he wants to pull off a decision.

I can just see Kessler with a slightly bemused, ripened face after 12 rounds of action 8)
