I would rather see Cotto fight Margarito or Williams any day. They may not be as defensively skilled as Mayweather but they are more entetaining to watch and bring more to the table than Floyd. Even a fight with Ricky Hatton would make for a much better fight even if Floyd beats him. Floyd probably would beat Cotto but Cotto has been more immpressive at 141+ than Mayweather has been. People refuse to recognise this but after tonight he has proven it. At leasty for me, Mayweather needs Cotto, Cotto doesnt need Mayweather.

Well i starting to think about it PBF best wins are against Zab and Baldimiar at welter. Then there is Cotto with wins over Zab and Mosley so i think Cotto might be the number one at the welter weight division now that i think about it could be wrong though.

I can't believe what many here are saying about PBF thrashing Cotto. Let me tell ya'. Mayweather is no GOD and gets too much credit for some lousy victories. I think he is awesome but there is no way he would destroy Cotto. That fight would be very close since we know Mayweather will be runnning for 12 rounds.

I think Cottto would intimidate Floyd. He wont be able to get in his head at all and that will bother Floyd. Of both guys accomplihments around 147, Cotto has fought and beat the better fighters and some of the same fighters in a more immpressive fashion. Its not immpossible that Cotto would break Floyds will in the fight and I think he would get Floyds respect early on in the fight making him backpedal and mostly making Floyd very uncomfortable.

Gee... I don't know. As objective and level-headed as you two usually are about boxing matters, I'd have to say I came away with a better feeling about Cotto-Floyd than I did BEFORE the Mosley fight.
Cotto looked faster.... boxed better.... and got his props from the most reliable source last night. Mosley himself. So if Shane Mosley can give Cotto his due credit, that's good enough for me. Granted, it goes against the conventional wisdom of you two gentlemen. But I'll go with Shane's opinion nonetheless.

This was a case where I picked against Cotto but I love both fighters. Cotto is going to give Floyd trouble. I've now watched Cotto negate the speed of two very fast fighters with a deceptively accurate and powerful jab, and I'm sure we all remember that when Oscar used his jab, he was effective against Floyd. I don't think age had anything to do with Cotto's victory. It was Cotto's jab. For all taht talk about Cotto's bodywork and left hook, his jab won him the last to fights, and that gives him a chance against Floyd. A pressure fighter with a jab and power is a scary combo. My biggest knock on Cotto has been that I though he was one dimensional, but after seeing him last night, I realize that he has developed into a much more complete fighter.
Floyd will might win, but he will never beat him up. Tony Margarito has a better chance to KO Cotto, cuz of the power and uppercuts.

Had finally developed and put it all together. You gotta use your eyes. I don't know if what happened last night was 1 or 2. It was probably some of both. I think we all agree that Floyd today is a more refined figher than the Floyd who nearly lost to Castillo. This was a much different Cotto than the fighter who was pushed by Torres.
In baseball, a sport where physical skill and mental maturity are closely tied together for success, statistical analysis shows age 26-27 is very often the age where hitters finally put the physical tools together with the mental aspects and reach their full potential. Maybe that transfers to boxing a little. In both sports, you can have the greatest set of raw tools, but if you don't refine your skills and control your emotions, you will never be truely great. That requires a certain maturity. I got a glimpse of that from Cotto against Judah, but it wrote off some if it because of Zab's mental flaws.
After seeing what happened last night, even if Cotto WAS one-dimensional at one time, he ain't anymore, and even Shane said himself last night...the kid can box a little.

After seeing what happened last night, even if Cotto WAS one-dimensional at one time, he ain't anymore, and even Shane said himself last night...the kid can box a little.
I'll give you a CC to. I underestimated Cotto and saw him shine last night. He made Shane play his game and did it smartly, and boxed better than I believed he could. No easy thing taking a legend like Shane out of his game, and using such a fundamental thing like a jab to perfection. Shane's neck and back probably hurts worse than his face after the jabs jolted him all night. It was a close fight, but I predicted it would be over by 8 in favor of Shane. But what a dummy ::** Gamo told me ;D Oh well, you pick em and if it doesn't turn out too bad. Live and learn. It'll be toough to pick against Cotto again after he showed what a complete fighter he is, though he is open up the middle alot.

In that case after the Zab Judah fight I should have made a thread like this one but saying:
"It's official Cotto would destroy PBF" :beat: Please if we're going by that logic then Cotto wins hands down. Cottos been able to stop and destroy opponents that PBF's either gone the distance with and or tooken longer to stop. But OK, if you say so..... :)

Very true...I think Gatti was his last absolute dominate performance...And that was a 140lb war torn Gatti..( not that Floyd wouldn't have beaten him at any time in his career but you guys get the point).....I think Floyds last destruction of a prime fighter was Corrales......

I dont think Cotto is fast, I think Cotto is mastering the art of timing, he is one who hits on the move both ways; (bodily) which transfers into harder hits backed up by his grounded style of defenceive first boxing ;
That will make difficulies for any style of fighter including the also fast and combo rich Floyd who will pay for it comming in eventually.Question is how will he react to getting met with head on power for once.
MAybe Floyd picks him apart if he is light fast on his legs that night and in top mental condition, maybe, but no way destroys Cotto.
Cotto has the weight transferance to destroy him though if he gets caught being frivolus.

....I think Floyd's defense would get a true test vs Cotto because Miguel doesn't care where he lands the punch just so long as it lands hard somewhere on the other guy.
Cotto KO'd Branco with a shot to the shoulder....I just think Floyd is too cute and he doesn't totally get missed by punches, he is more like James Toney with his defense, he slides the punches off of him....if he messes up he's going to get rocked.
Call me crazy but Cotto reminds me a lot of Julio Cesar Chavez
