Looks like Pacquiao is going to fight David Diaz in March-thoughts?

If Pac moves up to 135, then I don't blame him for fighting the worst of the champs (David Diaz), because most fighters don't jump right in and take on the top guy when they go to a new weight class. They usually take on an easier guy first before going after the top guy (Juan Diaz).

But, Pac really needs to fight Marquez at 130 before he thinks about going to lightweight. So basically what I'm saying is... I wouldn't criticize Pac for fighting David Diaz instead of Juan Diaz, but I would criticize him for fighting David Diaz instead of Marquez. Does that make sense?

In truth and in fact, PAcquaio will fight Marquez anytime and anywhere...... and most probably he will win over Marquez. It makes sense. And it also means that that should JMM beat Guzman that Pac by no means deserves to receive the larger purse. Which only means the fight does not take place in 2008 or perhaps ever. It appears the Pac camp opponent criteria is: Have a marque name and possess mileage or rebounding from a loss (or both). The boxing community has had it's fill and simply wants him to fight deserving in their prime opponents such as JMM, Guzman or Valero.

i'm also disappointed that pac chose diaz over jmm. arum seems to be feeding manny the idea that it would be better to have the rematch with marquez if he also has a world title so that there wouldn't be any complaint that one has the belt and therefore deserves a little more concessions than they are willing to give. it's still all about money. diaz is generally believed to be the easier assignment but would still fatten pac's pocket just as well, not to mention arum's wallet better. after which they would have more leverage to negotiate with marquez for more money. the thing is pac has more options at this point than marquez and arum is optimizing that option by going through the easier route with the greater financial reward.

I don't think PAC is avoiding anyone, it's quite obvious Manny is working his way to Juan Diaz who hold's majority of the belts in lightweight. What's wrong in taking a slightly weaker opposition, Manny is moving up to lightweight coming from a flyweight root.

Why is it not clear to you that JMM has every option to fight all the options Pac has as well? Why is it beyoud you to accept that a title holder would want the larger purse? ODLH is the only one to set this precedent and at the time of the JMM rematch Pac had not attained that PPV following. In any other weight class Pac would clearly be accused of ducking. I mean he fought JMM right after fighting Barrera. JMM was the type of guy that Pacquaio did not have to fight, not at all. Real boxing fans knew JMM was a very dangerous guy, but you could easily avoid fighting him by saying he wasn't a big name, his style wasn't exciting, he's never beaten a big name, some fighters would have said who is JMM, who has he fought, why should I fight him? But Pac fought him anyway.

And remember the fault for not having an immediate rematch was JMM's not Pac's. Well not really JMM-not a guy I think of as a ducker either-but Nacho Beristain.

I usually wouldn't mind him fighting a guy like Diaz, as long as he followed that fight up with a big fight with a guy like Juan Diaz. If he fights Marquez, then fairplay to him. I have no interest in watching him destroy David Diaz though. Diaz next fight should be Casamayor. As much as I think both of them were gifted decisions in their last fights, there is no room for the confusion of interim titles.

(Not true, I am all for him fighting Valero, Soto and Guzman all low mileage top fighters.) Where do you get that EM and MAB were bigger fighters they moved from lower weights as did PAC. The difference is that EM and MAB weight increase is more attributed to to them getting older and slower. It is/was visibility evident how much slower and less muscle mass is/was attached to EM and MAB's bodies. I do not dislike Pac I just want to see him in competitive bouts.
