Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Hold your horses ;D
Tsypko won an arguable split decision over Brain Magee in Germany. Froch then knocked Magee out.
Earlier this year Bute beat Tatevosyan over 12 rounds. Earlier this year Froch knocked him out in 2 rounds.
I'm sure I could go through plenty of those fighters records and their form wouldn't be any better, probably inferior to Froch's form.
I'm not his biggest fan but i'm pretty sure he'd wipe the floor with half of those guys, and give the rest a decent argument.
Next up he's fighting your 5th man Inkin. So we'll find out just how overrated he is ;)

Bute shut out Tatevosyan, and tho he is 3 years younger than Carl he has wins over Bika and Berrio. i never said Carl wouldnt beat some of these guys i said he hasnt fought anyone but washed up porn stars and crash test dummies which is tru enough.
Froch top 5 now? No Way!!!! In future maybe?

I don't think he's top 5 either. But on certain form-lines Froch is a top ranked fighter.
Boxing is a buisness, it's about making money, the fight with the pornstar (Froch looked utter shit IMO) was profitable.
And led to the WBC ordering a final eliminator against Inkin. ;)

Add Taylor and Pavlik soon and Froch will be lucky to be more than a gatekeeper soon. If he was that good they'd have had him in with a tough opponent by now.
If you think it will take a top 5 guy to beat him you rate him top 10, right? So that is sort of in line with the alphabets.
Guess we'll find out if you're right when one of the top 5 guys give a him a chance. ;)
Methinks he should fight someone in top 25 b4 he tries a top 5 guy. Many agree with me.
Can you list the top 25 guys?
Well i would of but Eagle has already done a list.

How is that. Beating any of these would be a massive step up for Carl.
well i've highlighted the guys i think he would beat handily.
some of the guys i've left out because i don't know enough about them
IMO he has a good chance against berrio and bute.

Is your list identical to his? If not fill your boots.
And if you really want to show some knowledge explain why each man rates above Froch? ;)

Fire away.
Then explain why you rank each fighter above Froch.

are you having a joke!? the devision will heat right up there is some sheer class in the 168 weight classs and i see more conterders moving up to it as well.

Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
I can not believe some people still have not mention Cw it is a pretty weak division weaker the LMW and the SMW.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Light Middle is poor at the moment unfortunately.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Actually light middle aint that bad imo, Cory Spinks and Oscar are both probably top 20 p4p's, Roman Karmazin is an exciting fighter when he's not fighting Cory spinks then you have guys like Julio, Ouma, Simms, Daniel Santos, Alcine etc. It's not the best but it ain't the worst either.
If you take Ricky Hatton out of 140 lbs then you are left with Malignaggi as the flag bearer for that division. With guys like Gavin Rees and Ricardo Torres as world champs you'd be hard pressed to find a more pap division than that.
But actually there is and they are so quiet that nobody even thinks about them at all.
I am of course talking about the strawweights. Now that Calderon has moved up I couldn't tell you a single fighter at that weight?
Can anyone else?
Thought not ;)
No you don't count El Gamo because you're just a fetishist :lickish:
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
154 for me, is'nt all that exciting....
As for 140, In addition you have Junior Witter, supporting acts such as Steve Forbes, Demetrius Hopkins and Peterson on the up and up. For me it's got plenty talent it's just a matter of getting them fighting each other.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
I dunno why I didn't mention this, but Heavyweight is fucking weak right now. Considering how much we all bitch about how shite the fights are at Heavy, I'm surprised more didn't mention this.
When was the last time we had a Heavyweight fight that had us on the edge of our seats?
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
I completely disagree about the super middleweight division being weak though.
I'll say it here and now, 168 lbs will be the best division in 2008.
Consider if Calzaghe moves up we've got a battle royale with the following guys.
Kessler
Lucian Bute
Jermain Taylor
Anthony Mundine
Edison Miranda
Allan Green
Carl Froch
Jean Pascal
Andre Ward
Librado Andrade
That's one hell of a lineup imo.

Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Bilbo how are you going to put Froch and not put Bika in there come on now.

Not to speak on behalf of my furry-footed friend, but ultimately Froch still has potential value and is scheduled for an eliminator, whilst Bika has fought and failed to win at the highest level a number of times. I'd put Froch in there above Bika too.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
But why if he has not even faced the competition i would bet on Bika to beat Froch.
-

Basically, because Bika has faced the competition, and has proved himself to be good, but not great in the division. Froch however, has retired Sergey Tatevosyan with his 2nd round KO, with Tatevosyan having never been stopped before, and having destroyed an aging Reid has proved he's got title potential, whilst Bika doesn't have any until our current champions retire or move up a division.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
I would not even give Froch a chance with Bute, Kessler or Calzaghe either way though he is the same as Bika is not better or worse until he beats someone. Because i respect a guy that loses to the best then fighters that beat up on old as guys should not been fighting.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
The most basic fact is that you can't judge a fighter until he faces his biggest challenges, and that is why Froch is ranked above Bika. Bika has faced those challenges and lost, Froch is yet to.
It doesn't mean that Froch will achieve any more than Bika, but I think that Froch has more chance against Bute that Bika would in a rematch, and would also have more chance against Kessler, though I believe they'd both lose.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Well Bika has been doing alright he is on the comback he will never be the best but he get back there again Froch and Bika should fight think that be good.
-

I think we really have to wait and see what Froch does in his eliminator with Denis Inkin, which will surely be the biggest challenge that he will face so far in his career. Should he win that one, and Calzaghe vacates, Bika would have to be in the mix as one of the opponents for Froch in a fight for that vacant title.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Fair enough i guess we will know soon enough so i will just wait and see how good he is.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
But until Froch actual fights a fighter that is a real threat to me he is just talk i hope he does fight Bika i think it be a good fight.
-

So you wouldn't consider Denis Inkin a threat to him? Inkin's been fighting decent European fighters trying to get anyone of note to fight him for three or four years now, and has picked up some reasonable names on the way. That's the eliminator that has been scheduled and both fighters will have to make it happen, so I don't see where this obsession with Bika is coming from.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Well if not Bika then Lacy or Bute Froch has been taking his time to much reason i am saying that.
-

Well just add Bika to that list as well then. It's not meant to be a 'who's best in the division' list but rather just a quick highlighting of some of the most high profile fighters and why I think it's a great division. If you like Bika too and Codrington for that matter then it just makes it more exciting still.
I love the 168 lb division right now, my favourite division after welterweight.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Yea it pretty hard to beat welter they have so many layers for any division to surpass welter any time soon.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
154 is talented
cruiserweights bell and haye are going to heavyweight there not much interest
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
For me it's got to be the heavyweights just a bunch of over fed bouncers a fit David Haye can clean up this lot if he takes his punch power with him & keeps his chin down
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
Honestly i would not give Haye much of a chance with a guy like Wald but a good chance against the rest of the lot though.
-
Re: The weakest weightclass in boxing?
But we have not really even seen him in action in the weight so lets just see how good he is but till then we know nothing because he has not fought anyone
