This is probably the answer. It's probably someone we've heard of, but not someone who's already well-known and in big fights. Every once in a while you get an older fighter who's #1 PFP, like Hopkins was for a little bit. But usually, a guy is going to ascend to #1 around the age of 27-28, meaning the next PFP is probably in his early 20s now.
I don't see Cotto being on an elite level in 5 years. He's already 27, he's already been in some tough fights, he has a high-action style which means he's going to be in a lot more tough, hard fights. He could be the #1 PFP at some point in the next couple years, but I don't see him still on that level at age 32.

Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
Jorge Linares. With his style,he's always going to be difficult to beat. No way Juan Diaz imo,he is going to slow down at some point and when he does,he's going to get beaten. There's only so long you can maintain that style.Ditto Cotto,Pavlik.

Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
Imo ..
Linares , Berto or Maybe even someone like calderon or Mares :)
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
I said Cotto but i think in 5 year he will be done because every fight he has is a mini war and by then he will be 32 i will say perhaps Andre Berto

Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
In Fact imo think Paulie Malignaggi and Junior witter will be considered big time p4p if not right up top in up and comng years..
Andf that'd make a big fight if they should come together in later years
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
p4p no1 in 5 years time will be Andy Lee ;)
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
I think Witter will have retired in the next 2 year.

Take your medication, it's making you say weird things again.

I really feel like if Manny goes through Marquez, David, and Juan Diaz in 2008, he has nothing left to prove. And if more of this Manny vs Oscar fight ever goes through, WHAT A JOKE THAT WOULD BE! Yet of course, all of us will be tuning in to watch it. I hate boxing sometimes, but no matter what, you always come back to it no matter how stupid something comes around. It's like having a b*tch for a girlfriend but the sex is fantastic!

I agree with Pavlik (Seems that everyone feels that way too). But I really doubt Calzaghe will be #1 pound-for-pound at 40! He's not in that spot now and I feel like it will still be A LONG TIME before he even sees it. With Mayweather fighting Hatton, if either wins, Joe will end up moving further from #1. And the same goes for Pacquiao vs Marquez, if either wins, Joe will move further away.

PAcquaio is only 29. He's got 2 more years in boxing if he wants it.

I gotta say I'm really surprised that I'm the only person whos even mentioned his name. Nevermind his weight class lets look at skills.
Surely I thought by now hes name would have been up there.
In 5 years Calderon will be 37. No way will he be p4p #1. He won't even be in the top 10. You want a little guy who has p4p potential? Than look at Koki Kameda.

Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
Donaire could also be a candidate for P4P #1 5 yrs from now.
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
IMO AJ Banal... he is still 18 right now.

This thread say's *in the next 5 years*, and the way Pacquiao's life style is i would say it would be a miracle, if Pacquiao is stilling fighting in 5 years let alone be P4P number 1 in 5 years.

got to agree with you that Pacquaio may not be around after 5 years but we can not discount the fact that he is still young @29. So it's still possible that he would still be fighting within 5 years time.
by the way, how old is Pavlik and Diaz?
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
Pavlik style can last a long time becasue he knocks people out so fast it is nt even funny.
-
Re: Who do you think will be P4P #1 in 5 years time?
And if he moves up and cleans out SMW and LH he will be the man in years to come.

But not all 29 year olds are the same... Pac is an old 29. He's already been in 50+ fights, he's been in several all-out wars, he's had to kill himself to make weight at times, etc. He has a lot of mileage on him for a 29 year old. Fighters with Pacquiao's style of fighting usually don't accomplish much past the age of 30.
