Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I agree with you in the fact that Cotto's win over Mosley was bigger than Floyd's win over De La Hoya. AND I also agree that Cotto uses a more mature approach to the fight game by "talking with his fists." The thing is Mayweather uses his mouth A LOT, but he also "talks with his fists." Floyd uses his mouth for the pre-fight promotion but when it comes down to it, in the ring, he is the most mature fighter out there. No matter how much pressure Hatton put on him, Floyd stuck to game plan and waited patiently til he had his openings. When the whole Mayweather vs Judah brawl happened, Floyd stood in the corner while there was utter chaos in the ring and relaxed until the fight continued.
When it comes down to facts, Floyd does have a better resume than Cotto. Cotto had a big year by beating Judah and Mosley but other than those guys, anyone who isn't a REAL boxing fan wouldn't know the other fighters he has beaten. Mayweather has Hatton, De La Hoya, Baldomir, Judah, Gatti, Corrales, and Castillo. Cotto has had some amazing comebacks and exciting fights but the fact of the matter is Cotto has shown that he can be hit. Mayweather on the other hand doesn't have as many exciting fights but that's cause no one has been able to figure out how to hit him yet.
Cotto could possibly be ready, but to make the fight look even that much better on paper for it to be a superfight, Cotto must have more names on his resume. Two more fights between Cotto and either De La Hoya, Williams, Cintron, Margarito, or Hatton, Cotto will be more than ready.
The thing is, if Cotto beats Williams, Cintron, or Margarito, he will gain a lot of respect from the boxing community. On the other hand, if he beats De La Hoya and Hatton, that will be a commercial goldmine! Pitting up two fighters who hold titles, are undefeated, and have beaten the same two people on route to each other will be mainstream sucess. All-in-all, boxing today is more about being a business than fighters fighting for glory.
(Hatton and his camp have supposedly decided to go back to 140 but you never know what will happen in boxing)
I'm sorry if this was lengthy, but I had to say everything in order to get my point across.

I don't really get you guys though. We as fans don't get paid for these fight but we have to pay for them. I don't want to wait to floyd feels Cotto brings enough money.
I thought it was about who the best fighter was, not the best business man. If that's the case then DLH would have been p4p #1 for the last 10 years and for about 10 more.

If that's the case, there's a case to be made that DLH beat floyd. floyd got a split while Cotto won unanimous against a better and more active fighter.
BTW, I don't think DLH beat floyd at all. I just had to make that point because you have guys that love or hate a fighter so much that they don't see fights with clear vision.
If that's the case, there's a case to be made that DLH beat floyd. floyd got a split while Cotto won unanimous against a better and more active fighter.
Oh come on thats not comparable, Mayweather easily beat Oscar De La Hoya, plus the punch stats were a landslide for Mayweather.
Cotto vs Mosley is very debatable i had Mosley vs Cotto a draw, Mosley come on very strong in the later rounds, punch stats had them landing the same amount of punches it was very close fight.
That's your opinion and your entitled to it but the fact remains that Cotto beat a guy who beat DLH twice and was far more active and sharp on fight night than Oscar as evidenced by DLH fighting way out of character and wailing away like we've never seen him do.
Those are facts and not opinions.
Just because Cotto beat a guy (Mosley) that beat De La Hoya who lost to Mayweather does not mean Cotto can take Mayweather any easier than the next guy. There is no proof to linear match-ups being factors to determine fights.
For example: With that logic that means Morales is better than Barrera because he beat Junior Jones OR Barrera is better than Morales because he won the trilogy so Morales wouldn't be able to beat Pacquiao OR Roberto Duran is better than Tommy Hearns because Duran beat Leonard.
But what happened was Morales lost the trilogy against Barrera even thought he beat Junior Jones, Morales beat Pacquiao even though he lost to Barrera who lost to Pacquiao, and Duran beat Leonard who beat Hearns but Duran sure didn't beat Hearns.
Hope that was clear to understand.
But WTF cares about that. We all want to see the fight. I'm PuertoRican I love Cotto But if takes an easy fight I will criticize him because I want him to fight the Best. and For Mayweather NOW is the Time. Easy this fight can be maid between April and July. No more than that.
IT is really stupid that while Cotto fans want for him to fight Floyd the others PBF, Cotto Haters and Hatton Fans don't want this fight to happen.
In Fact I'm in shock. It's cool that you have your opinion of who should win blah blah blah but to say that this fight should not be maid in the next fight of them it's really ridiculous. It's the Only reason why I MIGHT thing are afraid of Cotto wining because 1) P4P status of Floyd will disappear with all his hype and all because of his big as moth 2) Hatton will loose more crdibility 3) Cotto haters just want to for him to loose.
Now all those 3 points MAYBE the real reason why you don't want this fight to happen. Other than that is unreal.
AND please don't talk about money between this 2 or build up or what ever the stage is ready everyone but i mean everyone is talking about this fight.

Of course I would love to see Cotto and Mayweather's next fight be each other. What some people aren't understanding is that just because the stage is set doesn't necessarily mean the fight will be made. Anticipation and delay, love it or hate it, makes people yearn for the fight more. This equals BIGGER BUCKS! Boxing today is a business and fighters no longer fight just to fight. You say don't talk about money but you know what, it is what it is. Boxing at this level and money come hand in hand. Even if money means nothing to us, it sure does to the figthers. You may say that Cotto doesn't care about the money as much as the fight itself (I believe that's true about Cotto) but the thing is Mayweather will care about the price he's getting and you can't have a fight unless two people are in the ring, not one.
With your points three points:
1) P4P status of Floyd will disappear with all his hype and all because of his big as moth
Boxing is competition. If a pound-for-pound fighter is in the ring, their position on that list is always in jeopardy.
2) Hatton will loose more crdibility
Not one bit. He fought the best fighter in the world having moved up in a weight class where he has proved to not be effective. If anything, Hatton just shows he has balls.
3) Cotto haters just want to for him to loose.
Of course! Just as Mayweather haters just want him to lose.
***A little side note. My post that you chose to criticize was in reply to another person's post about how linear boxing matches can determine a winner.

Well caleoh12 I'm thinking you are a smart fellow and noted the Bold words like
I MIGHT and MAYBE.
But it frustrates me that for some fans Hatton is worthy for a shot at PBF but not Cotto.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
It's not that he isn't worthy more that theres no point.
Cotto is only 27. When Mayweather was 27 he was still fighting the DeMarcus Corley's of this world. Hardly a class of their own.
I think Cotto should think further afield first.

DeMarcus Corley was a good fighter at the time and Mayweather was stepping up in weight.
Remember the struggle Corley gave Cotto?
You really can't discredit Mayweather he ticked the boxes at all the weights apart from Welter.
Hopefully he will now make a move to tick the boxes at 147 before he retires.

When Mayweather was 27 he won World title's in 2 different weight classes and was on his way to winning 3 beating the likes of.
Diego Corrales
Jesus Chavez
Genaro Hernandez
Angel Manfredy
Jose Luis Castillo x2
Carlos Hernandez
Phillip N'dou
And DeMarcus Corley was Former WBO Jr Wetlerweight champion and only lost his title losing razor thin decision to Zab Judah. Corley was considered a good name when Mayweather fought him.

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I don't theink Cotto was struggled by Corly. It was very one sided. Corly got one good shot in but was easily beaten. Corly was struggling with Cottos power throughout the fight.
He came in wearing a stupid mask looking a idiot and i think he left in very much the same manner.
As for calling Corly good. You must think people like Junior Witter are pure ledgends.
Looking at it Corly beat Felix Flores a very poor boxer for the WBO defended it against poor boxers.

He was almost knocked out and was stumbling around the ring like a drunk man for most of the round. Lucky Corley is a sloppy finisher or we could have seen an upset.

Corley was a good name at the time Mayweather fought him, i didn't make out he was elite or etc. But he was still a good name at the time.

Cotto got careless in that fight and was severely hurt a number of times. It is a testament to his heart and courage that he survived. Good clips of this fight may be found on hbo's website and they demonstrate the danger Cotto was in.
And I don't feel he left looking like an idiot as he gained a good amount of respect in giving Cotto the fight he did.

Bah 1 round a very bad round that he got rocked. who doesn't he almost did the same to PBF but he wasn't as hurt as Cotto. The rest of the fight was all Cotto. Corley went down 3 times in that fight while Cotto went down 0 times. Please. and that fight was at 140 where he was weight drained you all know that is not healthy. try to ask Floyd to make 140 or 135 and Hatton to maje 135. they probably could but they will not be the same.

Im not saying anything bad about Cotto, i was just giving that guy the facts. From the way i see the fight, im not saying its bad thing to be rocked by Corley because he can turn your legs to jelly with 1 punch, and the good thing for Cotto is that his punch resistance is much better at Welterweight.

Yeah a real big name. Then just 9 months later Cotto knocks him out in just 5 something noone else had ever done.
I think you're mad if you think Cotto was almost knocked out. It's his style, he knocks them down in the first round then piles on pressure and can get caught. LOL
I have just watched the fight again. And the fight was only 5 rounds lol. He was only hurt in 1 but he was still fighting that style jabbing moving around.
Have to say i think Puya's right he did gain a lot of weight after those weigh in's

Calderon vs. Solis - Mouth watering fight both very skilled fighters.
Guzman vs. Pac - The waters heating up and it WILL boil.
De Leon vs. Caballero II - This shit! is looong over due.
'Baby Bull' vs. Hatton - I made a thread on this a while back and the response was great.
Pavlik vs. Abraham - Come on you know you wanna see it.
Kessler vs. Froch - Nothing would please me more in 2008 then to see this one come off.
Other fights that I would be very interested in seeing:
Arce vs. Mabuza - No one agress with me but something tells me this fight would be fucken great.
Kiko vs. Baustista - 2 young prospects with power.
Linares vs. Luevano - 2 young guys both newly crowned World Champs.
Enzo vs. Haye - I hope it comes...
Again not on par with Cotto-PBF BUT very close IMO.
silence mambuza would FUCK arce up
He is the bigger fighter

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
Cotto had some struggles at 140 but unlike Floyd he was killing himself making that weight...and people say he's the same size as Ricky Hatton....well there is a difference Hatton balloons up between fights and there is no evidence Cotto does that.....therefore Ricky is only fatter because he gets out of shape and Cotto doesn't or not to the extent of Hatton.
Cotto has fought competition that is on par with what Floyd has fought these past couple fights
Floyd: Judah, Baldomir, De la Hoya, Hatton
Cotto: Quintana, Urkal, Judah, Mosley....and lord knows who he's fighting next De la Hoya, Williams, Margarito???
Miguel Cotto's attitude and style fit for a fighter that can beat Floyd Mayweather.....he's quiet, he's powerful, he doesn't get upset....his facial expression never changes....he'd let Floyd talk and he'd let Floyd play and it would do absolutely nothing to him (or so past fights would have us figure....you never know how guys will react for big fights).

great post Lyle CC in 24
and some say Cotto still needs to prove himself and that Cotto's win has less value than Floyd against Oscar. LOL OMG hater alert!!!!

u forgot the best one...
isreal vs rafa III
two fights done, both got stopped..
this isn;t a let down fight... this will be hell and nothign less, to guys who are in no way going to want to win this fight by boxing... they will teare that shit up, go to hell and back, then back to hell and come back again... right now they are 1-1 this will decide the undisputed champ of their weight...
i mean style wise, cotto vs toni is everythig you want from a match...
sure toni lost o the hugger williams... but him v cotto would be awsome... you got the hard hitter agaisnt the guy you can't hurt.
I didn't forget it, I just thought someone else had already posted it? :(
For the most part I don't like to reply to threads posting something that's already been mentioned by someone else or 3, 4 different people.
And I agree Rafa vs. Israel III, is IMO the biggest fight for the sport as of right now.

Your talking with hindsight, i said *At the time* meaning just before he fought Mayweather.

I think your mad if you don't think Cotto was almost stopped, his legs were completely gone and he was lucky Corley is a sloppy finisher.

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I know exactly what you're saying Ricardo "Finito" Lopez. You're saying when Mayweather fought Corley, Corley was a big name. But nine months later when Cotto knocked him out in 5. Corley was past his best and no longer a decent fighter.
Corley a big name i mean really, you really are inthe Mayweather camp arnt you.
This is the best clip i can find. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ElB7g8_Lci4
You think Cotto was almost stopped? Why would a ref stop a fight if Cotto was the guy throwing with more power?
Corley was knocked down after 30seconds in round 1. And then again 30 seconds later IMO but the ref didn't give it. And then 10 seconds later Corley was hurt again and in the corner.
Then Corley was in all sorts of trouble in the second running away from Cotto.
Yes in the third Cotto got caught. And held on that's what you're suposed to do. The ref split them he kept his hands up and kept moving.
That's just Cotto's style he has such power he hurts the guy then goes straight after him and risks getting caught.
Like Puya said he was well underweight anyway.

I didn't say that at all what the hell are you talking about ?? i said this comment.
"Your talking with hindsight, i said *At the time* meaning just before he fought Mayweather."
I said this comment. because i thought you was saying Corley wasn't good name just because Cotto KO him.

Yes i do Cotto was stumbling around the ring for almost entire round, i don't need to see the clip i have seen the fight enough times.

It doesn't matter if its *His Style* fact of the matter is he was almost knocked down with the first shot, then he was stumbling a round the ring for most of the round.

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
Stumbling around because he was under weight, had been caught with a good shot and young.
Because he was fighting to make the weight, was in his early 20's lacking experience. And has decent power unlike Mayweather so he jumped in and tried to finish it.
And did. In 5 unlike Mayweather who had to run and punch.

Did i say there was anything wrong with Cotto being rocked ?? i have already stated i respect Cotto, and his punch resistance is better at 147. But it doesn't change the fact that Cotto was badly shaken.

Mayweather had good power at Superfeatherweight.
And did. In 5 unlike Mayweather who had to run and punch.
I can tell your a hater, Mayweather destroyed Corley and Mayweather was in punching range at all times, if you call that running you haven't got a clue what your on about.

Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I'm not a Maywearther Hater at all.
You are just a Mayweather lover.
Mayweather destroyed Corely. Ummm. So why wasn't there a knock out? Or a knock down in the first 8 rounds?
Cotto destroyed Corley knocking him down in the first.
He was badly shaken because he went after the kill. Mayweather wouldn't of been rocked because he doesn't he sits back and runs and punches.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
coley had coto on queer street siun, coto did da porto ricin shufle
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
And Mayweather weak style boxed him to victory.
That's boring for me. Sorry.

No your a hater you discredit him any chance you get, and don't even back up these hater comments well.
You are just a Mayweather lover.
Ask anyone on this forum who knows me, and they all know im unbiased. Im Mayweather fan but im also unbiased i just hate people like you who discredit fighters for no reason.

What a ridiculous comment, so there has to be knockdown in 1st 8 rounds ?? and i think your find Corley was down in the 8th round. God have you even seen the fight rookie fan ?? so by your logic your saying because Lacy wasn't knocked down in 1st 8 rounds Calzaghe wasn't completely destroying Lacy ??
You don't have to KO your opponent quickly to destroy them i thought any *Real Boxing Fan* would know this.
Mayweather gave Corley a boxing lesson totally destroyed him and knocked him down twice. The only round you can make an argument that Corley won was the 4th round.
-
Re: Could There Be Be Any Better Fight Made In The Sport Than...........
I'm not discrediting Mayweather at all i'm just giving my opinion.
Joe Calzaghe said he wsihed he was able to knock Lacy down but was unable to.
Same goes for Mayweather and Corley. Mayweather doesn't have that sort of power instead he is just a classy boxer.
If Mayweather had decent power he might find him self in similair trouble to Cotto. Seeing the guy can be knocked out and going straight after him.
real boxing fan. LMAO. You might like to watch tippy tap punches and the guy running away from punches.
I prefer to watch toe to toe fighting with power.
