Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
1st of all its completely assanined and ignorant for a 43 year old man to call another man at 36 years old a "White Boy"
Please anyone who dosent take that statement for what it implies RACIAL SUPERIORITY needs to wisen up.... It was in poor taste plain and simple. Hopkins was a douchebag in making that remark END OF!!!! like someone else said if Calzaghe said "I aint lettin no Black Man beat be" the whole place would of errupted Jesse Jackson would have been flow in with Al Sharpton and they would have picketed the gotdam arena. They would have demanded an apology and Calzaghe would have had to have a press conference to save face... Meanwhile Dikhead Hopkins runs off at the mouth and he gets a gatepass, to hell with that ::** I hate racism no matter who is prompting it, but the recourse should be equal as well as the public outrage.

4 major races in Philly, but its the really really poor folks who get discraminated against the worst that should be changing their behaviour
And on top of it,"white boy" is just a descriptive phrase in Philly
If he had said honky or cracker,on the other hand, youd hear no defense from me,because that is a racial epithet there
On top of that, why is it allways running to complaining about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, anymore someone should send a search party to even find them
White guys are so easily led through the nose anymore,"Oh my we've done a ton of heinous things,as recently as last week,we're such victims"
The on top of it the quote unquote victims you get so offended on behalf of,they never really suffer.
Imus is back on the air folks

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Although I don't condone what Hopkins said I don't take any offense to it (although I see the points of those who do) it's all about generating interest and gaining media attention.
Thats all it is.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Sad thing is all this is taking away from the reason we're even here...to talk boxing, not the color of the boxers or how they belive. When i first heard about this i was expecting this big slew of racist insults and it wasn't that. I can see some people getting offended but ah well to each his own. The reporters around him when he said it were all white and they were having a good time and laughing it off just as most probably would. Some of the reactions and comments i've heard about the incident if it is one were just as bad as what he said in the first place. And i'm not really even talking about people on here, but just cause they're not blasted all over T.V. they are no better. People can crack black jokes, and call hopkins names say they want his black or blank ass kicked is basically the same thing.
-
Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
You boys kill me with laughter. Hopkins owned Joe in that confrontation , and i do beleive Hopins will never let a white boy beat him beacause of how racist he is. I like Hops though he can say whatever he wants out of the ring it means nothing to me. I do beleive at this stage Joe wins though with that god awful pitty pat style.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
I never said anything about race or class, change starts in each individual. Wealthy upper class and poor alike, to not hold yourself accountable to the standards you believe in and expect others to be held accountable, is wishy washy and IMO lacks backbone. Thats the same for both sides of the equation, lack of compassion and empathy.
Yeah this is turning into a lets get it on topic not boxing.... so I'm done with the politics. Hate breeds hate though you gotta break the cycle.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
A very real conversation around grandma Johnsons dinner table
(Grandma Johnson wasnt present at the time or we'd have both been smacked on the ear)
Chipper;Hey white boy,pass the greens
Me:Hell your closer and I dont think your black ass has any broken arms
We've been friends almost all our lives,do you think we were screwing around,or do you think we were being racist

I just don't understand how you can claim Hopkins is a racist and believes in the superiority of the black race as if its the same as when the whites actually practised their superiority over blacks ???
Blacks have never reduced whites to slavery. Blacks don't disenfranchise whites and leave them with substandard educations, working for lower wages and having a higher unemployment rate. Blacks didn't segregate whites, blacks didn't uproot whites from their homes and transport them like cattle halfway around the world.
For you to say that Hokpins is arguing for the racial superiority of the black man is just plain offensive.
It's the blacks who have been oppressed by whites throughout history. When he says he won't lose to a white man, the way I take it is him saying he won't lose to the race that has persecuted and oppressed his own race for generations and who still looks down their noses at his race, especially in Philly where he grew up and lives.
I actually like Hopkins attitude to be honest. He says what he thinks and isn't trying to be all PC.
If he harbours resentment towards whites then so be it, but please don't even begin to equate that to the kind of racism that whites have practised against blacks throughout recent history.
To use my bullying analogy once again. If later in life when they are all grown up the bullied kid stil doesnt like the kid who bullied him that doesn't make him a bully. But if the bully still picks on the kid he bullied as a child then he's still being a bully.
I know it's a lost point on most of you pc nonnies but I'll continue to try and explain the obvious. :-\

Well I'm sure you know why he employs the 'god awful pitter patter style' but he is beating world class guys with it. Having hands like that in boxing is a major disability and look what he is STILL doing even so.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Ok, Bilbo for the rest of time , I'll answer for some shit I had no part in(slavery)...lol you crazy ass. Your analogy is ridiculous. It would make sense if slavery was still going on but really the whites in America are making leaps and bounds in race relations if you just look at the progress from the 80's to now its drastic.
To Trainer Monkey, in that context of course its not offensive. Shit I lived in Inglewood for a few years and my name was stupid whiteboy in school(one of two white kids in the whole school), I'm not easily offended but you didnt see me walking around saying the n-word.

I appreciate your tangent BUT we are talking about 1 man who made a remark that is only accountable for himself... Thats the issue, your historical analysis bears no relevance on what 1 man may believe in his heart in which the burden of proof may very well lay in his own words.... what happen in the building next to him or 100 years ago really has no signifigance.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
This really isn't a big deal imo. I am suprised Hopkins was picked by GBP because he really lacks charm or public speaking presence ???
This is the same guy who never left a tip at a restaurant until he had over a million dollars. The man who threw the PR national flag on the ground , disrespecting the whole country before fighting Tito. The man who makes a sworn promise to his mother that he would not fight after 40. His words are as good as the next dollar sign he sees.
Merchant "Watching bernard hopkins fight is like watching ice melt"
Hopkins is just an ignorant old man and a dirty, boring fighter. And that was before the Calzaghe thing.

That's got nothing to do with Joe though mate :-\
I dont suppose Joes fans realise that the way they act whenever Joes name is mentioned is absolutely killing him in the states
You know, where the money and prestige is
You feed in to these little tempests in teapots, and you make Joe by extension look like a crybaby b****
Theres a reason a title unification bout only did a 2.8 share on HBO
Your over reactionary fandom is killing the guys freaking career
He becomes unattractive because his fans are so freaking ridiculous
Hatton wont see a PPV for years because of what you "fans" did before the Mayweather fight
Roy Jones wouldnt give Joe a shot, because of what an arrogant shite Warren was in negotiations
Way to show your love, act like such jerks you torpedo the guys career, way to show your love
Hatton just made a reported $40million from one fight and Calzaghe is a multi millionaire you fucking dummy.

Who was that directed to?
Its an in general
Everytime something like this comes up if it so much as has Joe's name attached to it,it gets ridiculous quickly
Its killing the guys markatability here in the states, its bad enough Warren constantly wants a stacked deck for Joe,but his fans are murdering his reputation
The little Christmas Card thing didnt help
Neither did the Hatton fans acting like Soccer Hooligans
That crap wont sell over here,it only hurts a guys reputation
Hopkins gets away with it,because we know he's just pulling an Ali and running his mouth so we dont take him seriously
Holmes doing it the way Joe/Frank is doing it,only made him seem like a crybaby
Mayweather isnt nearly as popular as he should be,because of how he and his fans act, though I will give him credit for being magnanimous in beating Hatton, even if Hatton's fans werent in defeat and neither was Ricky
Dey Lo Hoya is WAY more popular then he should be because of the opposite
Trying to blow that little BS comment in to some kind of race war isnt helping Joe,its hurting him
Personally I have no intrest in watching this fight
Either
A)Joe slap hands his way in to convincing the judges he won
or
B)Bernard snipes from the outside and holds and hurts Joe at some point
A snooze festival either way
But Brit fans get so rabid about defending their fighters they actually kill their ability to make a living, after the little routine in Vegas I dont see Hatton getting a PPV here in the states any time soon, hell I wouldnt be suprised to see him on ESPN soon.
And it doesnt have a thing to do with Ricky,it has everything to do with his fans
And oh by the way Fenster you fucking dummy,Ali would have made how much more from fighting Ann Wolfe then she did from Dancing With The Stars?
Wonder how many times over Joe has made Frank Warren a multi millionaire you fucking dummy
Hey dumbass, how much money of Mike Tysons did other people spend
Hey drooling mouthed retard how much money did Tim Witherspoon earn, how much of it does he still have
Hey mouth breathing slope foreheaded imbecile, why did Joe Louis have to be supported by Max Schmelling

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
Forget all that, this topic is too silly to write that much about.
I remember PBF said something like "It ain't and black or white, it's about GREEN"
Floyd said some wisdom there!
Hopkins was just trying to sell the fight. Maybe he is a little racist, what he said was stupid. If a white person said the same about a black person it would be National News. Calzaghe beats him anyways, Hopins is a snooze fest in the ring.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
To be honest this incident is probably staged just to stir up controversy, which it has. Frank Warren was probably the one video-taping. :P

There are also the majority of all those people who might use some general stereotypes, but are smart enough to judge people individually and not clump everyone into a group of generalizations. This is how most people are. I live in a diverse area and I always see people walking and talking to people of different colors, ethnicities, beliefs. It is the small less than 1% of people that say or do stupid things regarding that and give a bad name to it.
There was a time when America was a country that was divided by race and it might not seem like so long ago. But when I grew up I was oblivious to that. I had good parents who never said anything generalizing another group of people once to me. Most people in America of a certain generation and beyond have very little racial tendencies. The way the media works today most kids of different races grow up admiring or having someone of a different race as a role model. Racism has been dying at a faster and faster rate in this country for a long time.
It is only the small minority of ignorant people that are racist that cause trouble. Racism causes racism just like hates leads to more hate!
The problem is there are special interest groups in the country that often pretend they are acting out of some "ideal" but are mainly there for money and political power. They tend to take small instances between one or two stupid people and try to blow it out of proportion to make it seem like the country has a problem.
Was what Hopkins said stupid? Yes! If a white person said the same thing about a black person in this country it would not just be Boxing News, it would be NATIONAL NEWS.
That is a fact.
I can see JT Rock's point because we live in a very politically correct time and for anyone to say something like that is just stupid. Why can't you just leave it at man versus man, why did hopkins go bring color into it. It is just ignorant and stupid to do that in this day and age. I dont care myself, but there is a double standard.
Hey Cortez I agree with everything you said but I'm not sure you really understand my posts.
If Calzaghe would have said 'I'll never lose to a black man' it would have been national news, I agree completely.
I also think that that would be entirely justified! It IS different for a member of a race who have committed outrageous injustices and acts of outright savagery towards another race in past history to make racist comments towards members of that race now.
My point is that Hopkins race have not committed those brutal crimes on the white man so racial remarks don't carry nearly the same menace.
The only reason the 'race card' is such an emotive issue is because white man's shockingly bad treatment of black's in times past.
If there was no history or slavery and racial injustice you could call people black, white, yellow or whatever without it meaning anything more than calling somebody fat or short.
It's the white injustices towards blacks that created a need to defend people based on race not the other way around.
Therefore in my mind it is a completely different ball game when a white man makes remarks about a black person than when it is the other way around.
Anyway have a :coolclick: for making your post in a calm and intelligent manner, as most of the posts seem to have got quite heated right now.

Ah crap, someone copied that rambling half coherent post of mine. CC back Bilbo, you know I like your thoughts and usually think your posts are funny and agreeable.
I guess I saw that Wasp fella say "America is the most racist country in the world" and saw you agree with him. Maybe that's why I got all idealistic :-X
To be honest, I don't really care about the whole issue. Sometimes when I get started typing I forget the point I was making, if any :)
In fact, If Hopkins brought more excitement to the ring I probably would have jumped out of my seat at his remarks and said "Hell yeah!! Kill whitey!!"

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
He said "I will never let a white boy beat me" four times then he said "I will never lose to a white person"now that's racist. Now if he would have said"I will never let Joe Calzaghe beat me" then that would have been a proper and respected response but insted he chose to lash out at Joe and all white people because Joe had him upset about getting beat by JermainTaylor (another black man) two times so Bernard Hopkins basically said so what, no white person can beat me.Well he did the right thing by not pushing to fight Oleg or he would have been saying "I will never get in the ring with that white boy again."Hell he may say that after Joe gets through with him.

You speak the truth . ;)
It’s a hype thing no question , but to me there are other ways to hype a match. This approach Hopkins took is unacceptable behavior . To fight racism one has to lead by example. Fools like this Hopkins does nothing for the cause , only ignites the flame.
Truth is we all have our own cultures , and within those cultures lies racism make no mistake, however through proper education and compassion, racism can be diluted and somewhat neutralized.

No genius, theres a difference between getting a purse, and getting the money
There are there these teeny small things called "fees" dumb ass
Like promoter fees
Just for starters
You think Hopkins doesnt book more?
You really must be a dumb ass to think a guy working for his own production company who is way more bankable then a guy who ran up the lowest HBO raitings share ever, doesnt book a wee bit more.
A 2.8 is freaking pathetic
HBO does better then a 2.8 when its running a re-run of Eyes Wide Shut at 2AM
Oh gee golly, two champions made money, hey guess what retard, theyre supposed to
But they arent making the money they could be
Because of mouth breathers like you who have no idea how to comport yourself, and scumballs like Warren who have no idea how to operate in the big time
Yeah you just keep helping your fighter, youve allready cost the guys millions, you keep helping him as well as you have he'll end up like Benitez or Witherspoon or Tyson

Hatton just made $40million for ONE fight - but fans like me have cost him millions because I don't know how to comport myself?
Calzaghe is an unbeaten multi-millionaire that fought in front of 80,000 plus punters this year, is respected by the entire (knowledgable) boxing world and considered one of the greatest ever super-middleweights - but due to the incompetence of the MILLIONAIRE boxing promoter Frank Warren and fans like me we've cost him millions?
You're either -

To be honest though I really don't see what HBO's ratings have to do with Calzaghe's popularity considering he's a European fighter.
Do you really think for a second that if BBC2 broadcast Hopkins vs Wright in the UK that more than a few thousand people would have watched it?
I can gaurantee that if they would have decided to screen it there would have been complaints that the BBC was wasting punblic money on broadcasting something that nobody in the UK cared a toss about.
I'm not even joking, I'm being totally serious here.

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
What we saw in that video was one man ( Hopkins ) backed into a corner and pulled out the race card and the last form of defence .
Hes ays he isnt in teh same league as Kessler which is true cuz Kess is young hungry and comes to fiight . Hopkins is old and comes to mess around and fiddle his way through 12 scrappy rounds .
Imagine if Joe said the same thing about blacks . Its a joke ! Hope Joe batters now .

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
this no different than hop snatching and throwing down the cuban flag before he faced tito (did that make him racist?), or when he on air claim that he was going to kill all of roy jones dogs (did anyone call PETA?) bhop is just trying to get the fight, enticing Joe to sign and then after the fight win or lose bhop will explain and apologize if he offended anyone....bhop knows that if joe gets pressured by people around him like "Hey joe go show him, a white boy can beat him" then hop gets what he wants and I think it might work..

Tito is Puerto Rican not Cuban ;)
All those things mentioned were all douche bag things to do and say... Bernard Hopkins is a classless Jerk. I rather see Floyd fling around money and see he is the greatest than a Ignorant prik like Hopkins say assanine things... And they say Mayweather is an asshole

Re: Here's the Hopkins 'White Boy' incident
as usual its all talk. hopkins let himself down with certain comments but when they fight and its all over they will all be good friends.:) also you will find that hopkins will have more respect for joe when the fights over
