I am starting to think Rigondeaux has superior footwork to anyhting I've seen based on his work int he 2004 olympics, his ability stop and move, and to use movement to control a fight was amazing.
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
I truly learned the sweet science by watching how B Hopkins always stayed on balance. The way he rolls his shoulders, walks with his punches, follow through and just his all around basic stance makes Bernard my pick. His footwork makes him truly an alltime great. ALI was just the man with his footwork. ALI and BERNARD. The sweet science. NOF SAID.
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
Bernard has great footwork no question, but I am not sure if people should learn from him, for being hailed as the technical master, he doesn't do things in a very orthodox fashion, he leads in with the cross, he doesn't really use the jab that much, he has an awkward stance that makes him look sort of crippled, but he gets away with it like all the greats.

Didn't Norton do that to Ali as well?
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
I would say Marvelous Marvin Hagler; In my spirit, I've never seen somebody with this permanent ability to have their opponents always where they wanted them. I think he should considered as one of the very best (if not the best) into that division. Another one who did move like a ghost on a ring was Archie Moore, he has that gift too, I think and I am a bit surprised they haven't been mentioned more for that before.
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
Yeah Marvin Haglar is my all time favorite fighter.
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
Willie Pep and Joey Archer

really? I was just thinking the exact opposite. I don't know about all of his fights, but I thought he showed great lateral movement in his fight against Corrales, quickly shifting direction to avoid getting caught on the ropes.

Without a doubt Emanuel Augustus has the best footwork, who else practically made the ring his own dancing with the stars. Love watching him wish he'd never age. This man has SWAGGER

Heh heh, they should have picked him over Mayweather to be on "Dancing with the Stars".
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
You know every time Emanuel steps into ring ur gonna get entertained. His footwork puts him in a league of his own. The angles he creates from his unorthodox footwork is matched by none. A trainers nightmare for both the opponent and whoever has the patience to train Emanuel.
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
I remember a thread where people were categorizing boxers according to styles. We had fun with Augustus. I think the words boxer/spastic showed up once or twice. :D
Re: Which two boxers had the best footwork in the entire history of boxing ??
Augustus is the blueprint to show a young fighter what not to do. I've argued with some who thinks his style is disrespectful to the opponent and the sport. I don't think it is at all.

Most people have gone with the dancers and movers, but I appreciate subtly good footwork that is not flashy.
Roberto Duran had fantastic, efficient footwork. He was always in the right place at the right time especially close up. He made his opponents do what he wanted them to do.
Currently, I rate GGGs footwork. Very effective indeed. Canelo gave him problems last time, so let's see what happens this weekend

I chose Chavez, he broke the ring down to get to his opponent really well.
