That was one of the longest sentences ive ever seen.
ok, you sound like your in a spot of trouble. go to a gym and try to learn boxing there rather than at home with tapes... or thats the way your message came across to me.
i dont advise you to try and box like either of the rockys. marciano was unique in that he would punch and punch and punch from bell to bell, not many people have the stamina for that kind of stuff. Not to mention that whenever baloaba got into a ring he lost hit guard and just brawled, i mean seriousely there was no indication of the training that he put in, he might have just been some guy off the street.
you say your resiliant which is good, but unless your going pro it wont do you all that much good. remember in amatuer you have 4 round maximum to do the best you can, and every punch the other guy lands is one against you
on the score cards. my suggestion to you would be to work the footwork and the guard, learn to get away from some of those punches, thenm come back with your own.
and when you say where should i punch body or head, you punch where there is an opening, or you make your own. punching to the body tends to lower guards leaving their head open to attack. experiment with 3 punch combos in varying hights, say the basic left, right, left hook. go left to the head, the right to the body, sidestep and the left hook on the point of the chin.
all the best
alex
welcome to the world of training!
best way to toughen up those knuckles is hitting the bags. get your coach to show you the technique and hit that heavy nag. dont go crazy on it, use proper combinations, with power, but dont go over the top. your guard should be up all the time when your throwing punches.
pressups etc will increase not only your conditioning, but your power aswell, so drop down and give me 20 maggot!
as for speed, im not too sure myself. i use a speedball (although they are weird) and shadow boxing, the mother of all excersizes. get infront of the mirror and throw controlled but fast punches.
thro real combos and keep that guard up. move around as you throw, duck, parry and punch for timed rounds. look in the mirror to see if your telegraphing your munches, and make sure your guard is up.
good luck
alex

Be careful of using any weights because you'll still be growing and could permanently damage your skeletal structure.
Just out of interest, where do you live? uk? us?
Check out the other posts on the forum about heavy bag work, shadowboxing, and make sure you wrap your hands properly!
Good luck!
I live in Ireland and i do tape my hands properly the weights i do are just handweights
Ok, I have no idea the age you have to be to go to a gym in Ireland, prob about 16, do you shadowbox?
What size weights are you doing?
How tall are you?
I swear Gyms dont have age restrictions, but i could be wrong of course!
Dont practice at home till you learn the basics from somone who knows what they are doing aka a coach.
it doesnt matter if you cant go down there every week, hell if you only go twice in your entire life thats fine, but you need to learn the basics properly, otherwise your never going to be able to box!
as a general rule the only thing i try to pick up from pro's is fight stratergies or how to make openings, because evry fighter has a malfunction, or something they do wrong. you want to be origional, not somone else.
good luck and if you could provide Dave_Bandit and me with some basic statistics of your body we might be able to help you out

5ft 2 about 4-8kgs a day no i dont shadowbox how do you shadow box?
OMG man!
how the hell do you do 4-8 kg a day in weights that doesnt make any sense. you want to be lifiting a constand weight for sets, and repetitions.
e.g. pick up your 8 kg weight (im guessing :D) then lift it up and down 8 times. have a 30 second breather, then do it again. have afinal 30 second breather, and lift that weight till you cant lift it anymore.
each time you lift the weight its called a repitition (or a rep) and each set of 8 repetitions is called a set.
as for shadow boxing, once again you need to learn the correct stance, body placement and punches.
the idea however is to stand infront of a mirror (ideally although no mirror is still good). observing your guard to make sure its good, you start throwing controlled combnations. whenever you throw a punch you check in the mirror to make sure that there arent any gaps left open in your defense, and that its not obvious when you are about to punch.
other than that its hard to help you if you dont know the technique for the punches... you need to go to a gym young man!
10 kgs once a day for about 15 minutes
no dont do times, do reps and sets like i said, much better, then youll get muscles like me, you lucky devil you!
Ok thanks for your advice!
Good luck little dude! Practice makes perfect!
report back here with any more help needed/information and we will be happy to help you!
who knows some day you might be helping/fighting me!

i have got 1 question on jab and hook pads should i use gloves or hand bandages?
always use gloves! dont go using fatty old sparring gloves, use either competition gloves (10 ounce at the most) or bad mits.
do you have a training partner?
good combinations are jab, cross
jab to the body, jab to the head cross to the head
jab cross hook
left hook straight left uppercut
left uppercut to the body, right hook to the head duck then spring up with a left uppercut to the head
work on them and youll be unstoppable!
Depends, you can go just wearing handwraps, depending on how tough your hand, wrist, tendons, knuckles etc. are, dont go too hard or you could damage your knuckles, you want to toughen them up gradually!
And I get the feeling you dont use handwraps + gloves together? If not, you should be, when using the heavybag or when you eventually spar!
I dont use Handwraps and gloves yet cos i dont fight yet
You should use gloves and handwraps on heavy bags, and mitts, the only time you shouldnt be using gloves and handwraps is when shadow boxing, even then it wouldn't hurt, and get you used to punching with gloves on!
ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES AND HANDWRAPS! ;D
When you take up boxing its very easy to get worked up and anxious, picture yourself knocking opponents around like Popeye did Bluto. But flexibility trumps big muscles more often than not; today we are infested with a bunch of bodybuilders trained for show not go, but if look at film/pictures of the truly great ones they look like strong wellconditioned athletes but you rarely see a muscle defined until that instant before contact. Also keep in mind that the ultimate objective is to not get hit and to hit. Some people reverse that saying but trust me don't get hit then hit. Keep this in minsd; as you develope as a boxer your strengths and weaknesses and your mindset will come to define your style. Whether you end up swarming forward madly, scurrying and floating jabs, whatever, ALWAYS BE A COUNTERPUNCHER. The best were all counter punchers, even the pressure fighters. You come forward in such a way as to draw a particular response- a jab, a right- that you can slip to get close or land a blow to the opening it provides. I tend to be longwinded and in a hurry and lose my train of thought , but I really hope that that last bit made sense to you? If not feel free to get at me and I'll try again.
here your asking us how to knock somebody out, but in your other thread youv told us you have knocked out your 12 year old friend. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BOY!Quote:

An oldie, to be sure, but an interesting one to drunks on Friday nights 8) 8) To do this combo properly you need to begin in a proper stance; feet under your shoulders , left leg rotated inward , left foot flat, right heel up @ 2" As you jab push off of your right foot, drive the jab arm into complete extension, remembering to bring your right foot up with you, throwing the right as it arrives. Your weight should be over your left leg. Take this opportunity to slide your right foot @ 11/2" to the right, drpping it flat as your weight shifts back and you torque your body back to the right, throwing the hook. Changing the weight on your feet will really help your balance.
Hey all...brand new to the boards, and pretty new to the sport.
Anyways, im 19 years old, never been to the gym a day in my life, do regular situps/pushups and the likes every day. I'm about 5'8.5", around 190 lbs. Pretty muscular (just kind of broadly built). All my boxing experience is from family friends who boxed back in their youth (I know all the basics[turn into punches, types of punches, footwork]) and from a couple of amateur mixed martial arts fights. Only people I have ever boxed are friends and family (all shapes and sizes), but I appear to naturally fall into counterhitting. So onto the question (sorry if its redundant...i couldnt get the search feature working right). Short of hiring a trainer, what would be the best thing for me to be doing right now, trying to get into a better boxing condition? I'm a college student, and can't afford much, so please bear that in mind.
Thanks for the help in advance
what does lbs mean?
and how do i councualte my weight in pounds?
i think i weigh 119pounds
i am 8st7
If you are a UK chap, then you propably aware of "stones" as a measure of weight. Here's a tip for you, there are 14 pounds in a stone. If you don't wanna do the math, heres a no-brainer device http://www.onlineconversion.com/ just plug in the numbers and Voyla!
Okay...so about 13.57 stones for all you, and then about 1.53 meters.
you said hiring a trainer?
what the hell you really really dont need to get your own one. go and find a local boxing club, there are loads of threads here about finding one in your area.
dont learn stuff from your family and friends, generally they give you some good stuff but impliment all their faults and problems into you
SHORT of hiring a trainer. I'm a poor college student with rent, tuition and bills to pay. I cant even afford a gym membership at the moment...im just waiting for the college's gym to open
start a running programme,
do circuits at home, stair sprints, dips, press-ups, lunges, squats etc
http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxing_fo...ic,5530.0.html
you dont have to pay for a gym membership! youll only have to pay the amount needed for the session, which is bloody cheap!
What boxing excersises could I do at my house if I cant get my ass to a boxing gym. Really, I can`t. Thanks for the input guys, your replies are highly appreciated. O0 :-[ :P ::) ??? 8) :( >:( ;D :D ;) :)
