Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
I've actually never seen that fight. I heard about it but I never knew it went to decision I always thought it was stopped after Evander's heart attack. Maybe I will try to pick it up tonight.

I don't I think Urango's body attack will end this in the middle rounds, if it goes past 8 I will be surprised.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Urango reminds me of Rey Mo from Fight Night Round 3, he looks entirely to big to be at this division. Look at his legs compared to his back, people say Lacy is unproportional, look at Urango.

As a Holyfield Lifer,It was hard to see.You could tell Holyfield was "Off" but all respect to the conflicted Moorer. He really put it together although I was convinced his chin would betray him....almost.He in fairness controlled the majority of 2nd and then got snuck hard at end.Moorer had a stroooong jab,A converted southpaw I believe so power in both. Not an esthetically pleasing fight to be honest but worth a look.
Wow...Does Vilches have a flag football fetish?Nice movement...OHHH,so much for that

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Yeah, I think this fight won't go the distance.
WTF is with Vilches trunks? Is he boxing or playing flag football? ;D

I'm only going on what I saw of Vilches v Augustus but this was from 2002, have not seen any recent fight of Vilches. Urango looked quite slow and easy to counter in his last few fights. If you can box and get out of the way you have a good chance of beating him.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Damn that was a good round!! Those guys were going at it pretty good there.

My favorite MM moment was after he got knocked out by Evander in the rematch. When Ferdie "The Fight Doctor" Pacheco was interviewing him after the fight..it went like this.... Ferdie: "You were really taking some punishment in that fight, what happened in there?" MM: "But I still got up and fought tho dog"(getting in Ferdie's Face) Ferdie: "Yes you did and and no one is questioning that, but what happened?" MM: "but i still got up and fought , I still got up and fought." The interview ended on that note...lol Ferdie was pissing himself, I think he really thought MM was gonna deck him.

Moorer could come off like that,I remember stories of him living in his basement surrounded by all types of firearms. He could be "touched" but had some solid skills......though his chin resembled rice paper and match sticks at times. He was bounced like a beach ball in the Rematch.......but he got up ,Nutsy stuff.

OHHH,present day .Urango just decapitated Vilches :o:o.WOW,poor dude has no teeth ??That was hellacious and a gunshot KO

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
HOLY SHIT!!!! What an F'IN KO....Hats off to Urango...and this guy was no slouch... Not world class but he has gone the distance with some very good fighters....
If Urango only had some speed he would be deadly!!! For any top tier fighter
-
Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Damn that was some right hook!!!! He almost made Vilches head turn like the Exorcist with that one!!!
He was out!!!

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
IMO that was more of a push than a kd...
-
Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Props to Pacheco ...he's game, and you can just hear the shots these guys are trading. OOO huge shot from Estrada.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
WTF was up with the ref in the Estrada fight?
The first "knockdown" was an obvious push.
Then the Pacheco was out on his feet and unable to defend himself, so he gives him a standing 8??????
Estrada always makes for exciting fights, I look forward to seeing him against higher level competition again.
But that ref needs to get fired, Pacheco could have got killer in there.
Vilches was looking real good until he gave up on the jab and move theory and decided to trade, massive KO for Urango. If Malignaggi does go ahead and fight Urango, I would actually give Urango a good chance, reason being while Paulie is slick and has one of the best jabs in the game, he likes to stay in the pocket which could give Urango that oppotunity to sink some good shots.

First , I agree that was an obvious push. second, the "ruled knockdown" was ok in my book, because he didn't go down and put his hand out to grab the rope. That is technically a knockdown. He could have stopped it, Steve Smoger would not have stopped it, I can tell you that much :p and he's is one of the best IMO.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
I'm sure Hatton would agree that Urango is a a live dog if not even money against "the Magic Man". Shoot Hatton was hugging for dear life at the end of their fight, Urango put alot of body shots on him. Hatton took some shots that would have had Castillo in the fetal position ;D I think Hattons good conditioning in that fight helped him alot.

I definately agree with the Hatton consitioning statement, if he would have slacked off in training he would've crumbled down the stretch.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Yeah and the ref did a great job all night I thought.
I don't think Urango matches up well with Malignaggi, just to slow of foot imo. And Malignaggi can soak up punishment with the best of them, ask Miguel Cotto.

Sure Malignaggi showed heart and hell of a chin, but he was beaten to the point of being ineffective by the end of the fight, and that was against a weight drained Cotto.
You thought the ref calling the push a knockdown was a good job?

No I meant before that fight. It was a walk out fight I'll give him a break, he did a good job in the other 3 fights.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Call me crazy, and I'm sure some people will, but I almost think Urango hits harder than Cotto, if not at least on par, the only problem is he is as slow as molasses for a light welter.

You know I kinda agree with you here too, I think Cotto is much more effective with his power, because he can position himself waaay better than Urango, but when Urango is able to plant and throw, he is absolutely devastating.

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
My favorite Teddy Atlas quote of the night was:
"He's the best hand surgeon in the world and New York"

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
I was just thinking...if Torres gets by Holt again, Urango Vs. Torres would be a barnburner, and they are both Columbians. A little "Battle for Columbia" anyone? :p

Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
The first time I saw Greene it was like nothing really jumped out about him and that's the same thing I think every time I see him. He's solid in a lot of ways but nothing exceptional.
I skipped the Urango fight, he usually bores me, apparently I should have watched it. Did see the KO later, pretty nasty.
-
Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
Green is actually a pretty decent fighter he just for one focuses way to much on the one big ko punch and two doesn't stay focused. If he were to box i think he would find things much easier for himself but he's gotten by so far so it might be hard to convince him of that. Also he gets way to comfortable in a fight way to early. I enjoyed seeing vasquez fight again as well, the guy can't box for shit but he is huge and pretty fast for his size, i think he'd have a lot more potential if they would actually teach him some boxing skills instead of just plowing over people. Pretty decent night of fights imo. I'm not a huge fan of urango either he wins so i doubt he cares but watching him drop his head and just throw does get old after awhile, but hey i wouldn't want to fight him.
-
Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
That was an awesome night for boxing.
-
Re: Juan Urango tonight on WNF
I hope Urango grabs a belt again, he's a likeable guy and has one of the coolest nicknames in boxing, hope he does well.
