Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
I think most everybody agrees that Ali is number 1 or 2. To be on the list you need to have exceptional skills (Ali) and/or completely dominate the division (Tyson, Sullivan, Foreman, Marciano, Louis). Tough to call as the division's talent at the time of the champion determines how people look at him. :boxing2:

Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
marcianos record is his pro record if he lost as an amatuer so wot it doesnt count on his record
-
Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
if a fighter like louis managed to acheive so much without fightin at his peak doesnt tht make him better because if tht was him not at his peak emagine him at his peak

Actually he was 27-28 when he went into the armed forces hitman, so he probably had peaked already. He was born in 1914 and had his last title defense in 1942, before being out 4 years.

Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
oh right some said tht he missed out on his peak years

Terrible list...
Where's George Foreman?
You have some terrible names, Leon Spinks!, Michael Spinks, Jimmy Ellis?
Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield are far to low imo, they should be atleast top 10.
How the hell did Leon Spinks get on the list, because he beat a old Muhammad ali?
Although Mike Tyson is not the greatest heavyweight out there, he deserves to be in the top 15 greatest boxers of all time.
-
Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
george foreman shouldn't even be in any top 20, Lennox lewis couldn't even go with any of the top 10 and the same for holyfield, leon spinks was 1 of only 5 people that beat Ali, so no matter how old ali was spinks beat him and thats why he is number 8 and as for mike tyson no way could he have beaten any of the 20.

So what if Leon Spinks beat Ali? So did Trevor Berbick, where is he on your top ten?
Leon Spinks is one of the worst heavyweight champions ever, and to say that Mike or George Foreman dosen't desrve a place is a complete and utter joke.
George Foreman has achieved 10 times the amount of greatness than leon spinks, michael spinks and Jimmy Ellis put together.

Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
mike tyson at his prime could probebly give any of them fighters in ur top 20 a run for their money and beat most of them

cheers man, but i do think Lennox deserves a top ten place because correct me if i am wrong, but by way of rematch he is one of the few fighters in boxing history to have defeated every single opponent he has ever faced.

Great fighters should beat them first time round, where is Tyson in your top 20, He got beat and never revenged any of his defeats.
In what way can you have the likes of Rocky Marciano and Frazier ahead of Lewis in any list, if they fought it would be a total domination by Lewis, also none of them have had career's like Lewis, Lewis beat everyone in his era, and this is my oppinion like, but Lewis fought alot better quality opponents than the likes of Marciano, actually it aint my oppinion, its fucking fact.

Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
lets get things straight, if marciano was a boxer in his prime at the same time as lewis and tyson etc he would have destroyed them all, marciano was the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time and hendry cooper was the greatest british boxer of all time.

Cooper was a great British Champion & a good puncher at world level but I would not say he was even among the top contenders for the title.

Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
Some of the lists are truly mindblowing.  I assume most of them must have been compiled by fellow Brits with all that irony.  Neon Leon's inclusion as a great made me laugh.  And Our 'Enery... don’t we have to narrow it down to those who at least won a version of the heavyweight championship?  I saw Cooper on that dreadful "Who was the greatest..." on Sky the other week.  He's obviously been dining out on his '63 fight for so long that he truly believes the fiction that Ali was given extra time between the 4th & 5th rounds. Â
I'm desperately disappointed that Primo Carnera never made it onto the lists; and Wladimir; and if you didn’t have to be a champ, a further smattering of Brits in Brian London, Richard Dunn, Noel Quarless, John L. Gardner wouldn’t have gone amiss.
-
Re: Top Ten Heavyweight Champs of All-Time
1-Marciano
2-Ali
3-Foreman
4-Jack Johnson
5-The Bomber
6-Smokin' Joe
I'm gonna stop there, I may finish it later, but I can't decide how to proceed and I
don't want to water it down (some of the names on these other lists are laughable).
Oh and I already knew what all the critics would say about Rocky, the fact is he was
49-0 and the 49 does include Louis, Charles & Walcott. Also, mafia my penis!-it could be speculated that boxing in general has ties to it. Hell, Don King pretty much
personifies organized crime.
